LJS Posted 29 August 2011 Posted 29 August 2011 This division is a lot stronger now than it was when Johnson was pinging them in with Palace. Is it? Why so? Looking at the league tables for those seasons, there were some good sides and some good players. That the league is now stronger just seems to be one of those things that people say without any real evidence. Like Sky calling the Premier League the 'Best League in the World' for the past fifteen years even when there have been times it patently has not been.
Jaspa Posted 29 August 2011 Posted 29 August 2011 Wouldn't that mean were the only ones after Nicky? (regarding footie insider) Please, I hate Andrew 'bold diving div coont' Johnson
LJS Posted 29 August 2011 Posted 29 August 2011 His goal record was excellent at Palace but since then it's been a touch mediocre, and let's face it, he's not likely to improve now is he? In fairness he has been playing in the top division since he left Palace so it's difficult to compare. My biggest concern with him would be his injury record. It's certainly a risk. But as I said, I doubt that this is a genuine bid anyway.
kingfox Posted 29 August 2011 Posted 29 August 2011 What is wrong with Andy Johnson, he is coming back to form and when having a few injury problems when he got back in the pipe line he wasn't doing to bad at all. Stays fit and at Championship level, this has the potential to be a very good signing, yes people want Maynard, but Johnson is a goalscorer, in pre season he did very very well.
HEGGSY Posted 29 August 2011 Posted 29 August 2011 Footy_Insider andy johnson bid is to pressure #bcfc into selling maynard #lcfc If thats the case then the most likely plan of action from LCFC is that we have put a derisory bid in for Johnson, bristol then think we have lost interest and therefore are losing out on £6m, fulham reject our bid and bcfc accept ours as they know we are the only team deadly serious about NM, then on Wednesday we see NM with a big grin on his face holding up an LCFC shirt on the OS and consequently running out against Barnsley in 12 days time Hopefully (clutches at straws)
Salieri Posted 29 August 2011 Posted 29 August 2011 In fairness he has been playing in the top division since he left Palace so it's difficult to compare. My biggest concern with him would be his injury record. It's certainly a risk. But as I said, I doubt that this is a genuine bid anyway. If we could get him for a reasonable fee and on reasonable wages then I would take him, definitely. He's more than good enough to do a job for us for a season or two. Just wouldn't want us to spend a huge amount on a guy who is more likely on the decline than the up.
brockmyster Posted 29 August 2011 Posted 29 August 2011 People are saying no to a proven goalscorer at this level?! He would cost a damsite less than maynard and the injury worry would be there if we signed maynard aswell, good signing he would be!
Ashley Posted 29 August 2011 Posted 29 August 2011 I think all our bids for strikers have been to test Bristol City. I want Maynard!

sdb Posted 29 August 2011 Posted 29 August 2011 Decent player, certainly not my 1st choice but think he'd do well for us.
MattyR Posted 29 August 2011 Posted 29 August 2011 He is awful! I don't care about his statistics! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE CAN WE SIGN MAYNARD! (or Yakubu)
Salieri Posted 29 August 2011 Posted 29 August 2011 Puts more on pressure Bristol to sell Footy_Insider andy johnson bid is to pressure #bcfc into selling #lcfc
brockmyster Posted 29 August 2011 Posted 29 August 2011 Johnson is way more injury prone than Maynard. Also more than likely alot cheaper
stockyfox Posted 29 August 2011 Posted 29 August 2011 Andy Johnson. Now Fulham, Ex-Everton & Palace. Is this the end of the saga?
Libertine Posted 29 August 2011 Posted 29 August 2011 Also more than likely alot cheaper You implied Maynard is injury prone. He isn't.

Jace Posted 29 August 2011 Posted 29 August 2011 Andy Johnson. Now Fulham, Ex-Everton & Palace. Is this the end of the saga? more end of this thread than saga I think...
okie fox Posted 29 August 2011 Posted 29 August 2011 I hope this is just a ploy. I will be disappointed if we end up with a 30 year old 5' 7" striker, whose game was all about speed and has probably lost a step due to knee injury. Certainly, he hasn't been scoring much lately for Fulham.
stockyfox Posted 29 August 2011 Posted 29 August 2011 http://www.foxestalk...0 Apologies spiderpig! I hadn't picked up your thread though I thought it strange that there appeared to be no obvious specific thread!
Salieri Posted 29 August 2011 Posted 29 August 2011 Apologies spiderpig! I hadn't picked up your thread though I thought it strange that there appeared to be no obvious specific thread! Not my thread mate but there is one in 'Transfer Talk'. No worries.
CKB Posted 29 August 2011 Posted 29 August 2011 Well if this is who we land up with i'd call this whole striker chase a serious disappointment! Nothing against Johnson but just not a player that excites me much at all.. Did well for Palace but since then hasn't exactly set the world alight has he? Ah well in Sven we trust........(i guess)
Babylon Posted 29 August 2011 Posted 29 August 2011 Seem to remember lots of people moaning about Nugent, a fit Johnson is fine!!
