Frost Posted 26 June 2011 Posted 26 June 2011 Also burnt part of there stadium in the rioting? Correct. They ref couldn't add any stoppage time because the fans were already trying to get on the pitch. Madness they've gone down, 33 league titles. I guess its the equivalent of United going down?
Ozwin Posted 26 June 2011 Posted 26 June 2011 I wish we got South American football coverage over here. Even just a crappy highlight show would be nice like they used to do on C5 at like 5am on a Monday.
Alexikokopops Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 They even have a system in place where those up for the relegation play-off is decided on the three season average, so if a big club has a one-off bad season then can get away without being relegated. Good effort by River Plate to be that bad. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/jun/26/river-plate-football Edit: In fact, I've just read that the averaging system was done in the 80safter San Lorenzo were relegated. In the first season under averaging River Plate finished second bottom but escaped relegation because of the three season average rule.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 Massive news over there, such a giant club.
Wycombe Fox Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 That's the most damage Belgrano has done for 30 years. GOTCHA!!
Guest Mee-9 Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 Also burnt part of there stadium in the rioting? Passion
MC Prussian Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fNKbdMB23U First relegation to the Second Division in its 110-year existence.Face it, River Plate - he who plays consistently crap over the span of 3 (!!) years had it coming...Now its president, Pasanella, can hang himself like he announced it earlier on:http://www.buenosair...-dead-pasarellaThe violence in the streets of Bueons Aires is also one of a kind:http://www.torontosu...e-are-relegated
Darkon84 Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 Relegated. Proves that big teams can get relegated. Big team, but its more about the way the league system works, Its an average points total over 3 seasons (or something like that). Actually, in fact, that makes it worse, theyve had more than ample time to sort themselves out haha All in the space of a week, you have rioting at RIver, racism in Russia against the living legend Roberto Carlos, and also rioting (albeit on a lesser scale) after the Santos match. Whos betting that FIFA wont do anything about this, but if it was an ENglish club, they would be going freaking mental, calling for us to be banned from every competition etc. Always been more of a Boca man myself anyway!
millzi Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 Correct. They ref couldn't add any stoppage time because the fans were already trying to get on the pitch. Madness they've gone down, 33 league titles. I guess its the equivalent of United going down? Exactly what I thought.
John Matrix Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 shame. remember when they used to show the boca v river game on the telly back in the 90's
BlueSi13 Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 Correct. They ref couldn't add any stoppage time because the fans were already trying to get on the pitch. Madness they've gone down, 33 league titles. I guess its the equivalent of United going down? Manchester United were relegated in 1974
Head Honcho Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 shame. remember when they used to show the boca v river game on the telly back in the 90's A mate of mine attended this years game about a month ago.............awesome he said!
THFC6061 Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 Correct. They ref couldn't add any stoppage time because the fans were already trying to get on the pitch. Madness they've gone down, 33 league titles. I guess its the equivalent of United going down? Not really. River Plate had never been relegated in the entire history of the Argentinian Top Flight. Manchester United have been relegated a few times already. In fact, every English club which has participated in the Top Flight has been relegated at least once..... ...except for Wigan Athletic!
ajthefox Posted 29 June 2011 Posted 29 June 2011 Oh well. Fans that get violent like they do deserve the pain that relegation brings anyway.
