Owls weighing up swoop for Dyer

Wednesday are weighing up a move for Leicester City winger Lloyd Dyer.

Owls boss Gary Megson is looking to bolster his squad with a number of new additions and the Foxes could be prepared to let their winger leave, given that boss Sven-Goran Eriksson has the funds to strengthen his own squad for a push for promotion in the npower Championship.

Dyer was still a key performance at the Walkers Stadium last season, making 39 appearances and scoring five goals along the way, but could fall down the pecking order under Eriksson next term.

The former MK Dons man has the experience of helping Leicester to promotion from League 1, something which is a big factor in Megson's interest in the 28-year-old, and has also proven he can cut it in the Championship.

Wednesday chairman Milan Mandaric also knows Dyer well from his time as Foxes chairman and will be prepared to fund the transfer fee and wages for the Birmingham-born midfielder.

But Dyer could opt to stay at the Walkers and fight for his place, despite the potential flood of new arrivals at City this summer.

The Owls will try and use the guarantee of regular first team football next season to lure him to Hillsborough, and also now have the financial backing to offer Dyer a competitive wage.

I hope he's better than Michael Morrison!

Can you Leicester lads and lasses give me a lowdown on this lad? What are his strengths and weaknesses?

 Thanks.

Strengths - erm................

Does Mandaric identify all of their targets?

It's a news story!! Mandaric was at Leicester so let's put 2 and 7 together and get 4.

runs around a lot and gets lots of chances and shots and misses most of them, especially 1on1s.

prefer Morrison.

I think lloyd would be very good in league one- he is good enough for the championship, maybe not consistent enough for a top 10 side though. So for you guys he would be brill - only plays well in the sun though!!!

What's up with Morrison?

Good impact player, has pace and can make things happen. Not as bas as half the people on here make out, personally id want to keep him.

Has pace to burn and on his day can be virtually unplayable. Unfortunately he can have 5 games like that in a row and then become anonymous for the next 3 months. He looked very good in League 1 though and would be a good signing for most championship clubs let alone you guys.

I am not sure he would fit into a dour, boring, defensive Megson team though as his main strength is attack.

Does Mandaric identify all of their targets?

Seemingly yes. Two of them (Rob Jones and David Prutton) have already signed. It does seem a very odd way of doing things. I would prefer silence and only to announce things when they were done and dusted. Did he do this at Leicester?

Milan wants Neil Mellor back, Jason Scotland, Danny Green, Michael McIndoe, Jason Koumas, Jose Semedo, Julian Bennett, and Danny Baath back on loan. How many of these signings we will get I don't know. I would be pleased with half of them.

Do you want the good news or the bad news?

Good news - Bags of pace, determination, and well pace again.

Bad news - Can't cross or deliver a ball after making space for himself. Against quality defenders finds himself pushed inside and robbed of the ball. Against mediocre defence, he might get a shot off, which will not make the target (he has scored on occasion important goals, but then your expectations will rise and you will be inevitably disappointed and frustrated by him). His passing isn't terribly great either.

However in League One for all his faults he should do well for you.

Fast, tricky winger. Often lacks final ball and is very one footed but should tear apart League One.

how many times has he used the phrase "trust me" so far?

Morrison is pretty much bottom of the pecking order. In the games he played last season he looked way out of his depth even in League 1. He was awful and I think Megson is already looking to move him on.

Dyer is lethal at League One level but expect him to go missing about November/December time and return to form about March. Think he's a bit of a woofter when it comes to the cold weather. But when he's confident and motivated then at that level he'll get you 10-15 goals and create plenty more. I hope we get at least £500,000 for him.

Hit and miss, one day he will be electrifying, the next running down blind alleys! But in that league a great acquisition! My mate told me that he thinks Morrison is your worst player!

Thanks for the responses. He sounds like a carbon copy of Jermaine Johnson.

Does he score quite a few? We need goals in our midfield.

I've lost count!

10-15 goals I like the sound of. How long has he got left on his contract?

Morrison last season was certainly a candidate for worst player. Awful pretty much every time he played.

Signed a new 4 year deal last season.

No, he doesn't score lots of goals. He'll score a couple of crackers, and it will give you hope. But then the next game he'll disappoint in equal measure. However, as I've said and few others, that in League One he'll scare the shite out of most defenders. But if they tweak that he only has one good foot, and can't cross he'll be very frustrating to watch.

Shame about Morrison. But then again Ginger Mourinho doesn't exactly have pedigree, bar one season with West Brom. Sorry to say. I have a soft spot for the Owls, so I hope you can strengthen and make your way back to the CCC at the expense of your neighbours. Dyer won't be a bad acquisition, but don't expect great things.
