Wycombe Fox Posted 11 May 2009 Posted 11 May 2009 The Sun says that Arsenal's 4-1 defeat yesterday was their heaviest defeat in 32 years. Could that be the 32 years since we beat them 4-1 at Filbert Street in October 1976 with goals from Keith Weller (2), Steve Earle and Frank Worthington? I was at that game!
Koke Posted 11 May 2009 Posted 11 May 2009 You mean their heaviest home defeat? They lost 6-1 to Manchester United not so long ago.
Wycombe Fox Posted 11 May 2009 Posted 11 May 2009 You mean their heaviest home defeat? They lost 6-1 to Manchester United not so long ago. I guess I read it wrong! From The Sun's website "Arsenal crashed 4-1 at home, their heaviest league defeat for 32 years." Maybe it could've been written better.
Joe. Posted 11 May 2009 Posted 11 May 2009 Wenger says that Arsenal need two experienced players in the summer. Is he on crack?
lcfc_jme Posted 11 May 2009 Posted 11 May 2009 I still maintain that Arsenal are the best footballing side in England, but as was said on Sky yesterday - football doesn't reward great play, it rewards great finishing and that's one of their problems. Arsenal need experience to compliment their potential. They need two quality, recognised defenders. A good holding midfield player. Possibly two world-class strikers as well - Adebayor and Bendtner are not good enough to win trophies with and Van Persie always seems to be injured. As much as I admire Arsenal, the "potential" excuse can only be bandied about for so long. Wenger needs to open the cheque book properly and at least attempt to level the playing field so they can begin competing again.

Defensively they're woeful and if they actually had a shot rather than trying to walk the ball into the net all the bloody time they'd probably score a lot more. So frustrating to watch at times.

Indeed, which is why they need at least 3 quality, sought-after defensive players, with one definitely at centre-half and another in midfield. I think they're a bit better at shooting rather than walking it in when Arshavin plays - he is pretty much a shoot-on-sight player and it's so refreshing to see. Arsenal control games but the reason they draw so many is because they're obsessed with scoring the perfect goal. Much like Barca in Spain, just less effective because they don't have the world-class strikeforce that Barca have. It's annoying because if they'd retained Flamini or had an Essien-type player sat infront of the back 4, they'd be so much better straight away.
dandannieldanok Posted 11 May 2009 Posted 11 May 2009 4-1 was a ridiculous scoreline given the balance of the game, Arsenal just badly needed that first goal. I think if they were to get 3 quality players right down their spine (centre-half, centre-mid, striker), they'd be much closer to the top 3.

As for walking it into the goal, you're right that Barcelona actually have the players to do it. Arsenal have Plan Z, who can't even keep his bloody trousers on when he gets pissed up.
Cobbo Posted 11 May 2009 Posted 11 May 2009 They would reap the rewards of the modern equivelents of: Makelele Thuram Maldini Now, who are they? (And who would not benefit from having them in their side anyway, Cobbo? State the bloody obvious you arse head).

lildave3 Posted 13 September 2009 Posted 13 September 2009 I hated Adebayor when he was at Arsenal - now I think I actually love him.
leicesterfox86 Posted 13 September 2009 Posted 13 September 2009 I hated Adebayor when he was at Arsenal - now I think I actually love him. Ha, he certainly contributed to a a cracking game didn't he? Always said Arsenal would regret letting him go and yesterday proved it. Two defeats already for Wenger's men and confidence suffering in what is a very young squad. You would have thought they could do with some experienced players in there wouldn't you? It will be interesting to see how they respond, but there is no doubt that they are outsiders for the Premier League title now, Man City are more likely to win the title apparantley!

Joe. Posted 14 September 2009 Posted 14 September 2009 Eduardo Ban Overturned Makes a mockery of everything. What's the point of handing out the ban in the first place for it to be overturned? Ridiculous.
Matt Posted 14 September 2009 Posted 14 September 2009 All I wanna know is if it was us or anyone barr the big clubs would it be overturned? I'd put money on the answer being no. Another thing that pissed me off is everyone is outraged what Adebayor did the Van Persie, Were as many people outraged at what Shearer did to Lennon in the 90's? Did that many people actually know what Shearer did? I fooking hate Arsenal, and I fooking hate how the big 4 are so looked after.
