Jimothy Posted 3 May 2012 Posted 3 May 2012 I think it's the other way round. Most people who've ever kicked a football can cut across a bouncing ball that's sat up nicely in front of them. Very few could bring it down and trap it on their foot with a first touch, and not even facing the goal, without it touching the floor, get their foot that high and volley it so sweetly into the far corner. The technique involved in Crouch's goal is harder, even if the end product of Cissé's is probably more spectacular. Spot on. I hit one like Cisse's when I was 15 from the right hand side of the pitch, with my right foot, so it went right on the top corner at the near post. Totally unstoppable, but I didn't mean it, I just lashed at the ball, probably hoping it would go in the far corner like Crouch's but I caught it with the outside of my foot. Looked amazing though. I could never do what Crouch did, and most people couldn't. He hit it so sweet and so straight. Cisse's was wild, looked amazing, but it was a wild lash at the ball.

Both are equally impressive in my book but I think Crouch's would be harder to pull off. The ball sat up nicely for Cisse but Crouch had to have a perfect first touch and take it high and behind him. Cisse's was caught perfectly though. I couldn't choose for goal of the season.
Soar Fox Posted 3 May 2012 Posted 3 May 2012 Wayne Rooney's overhead kick against Manchester City has been voted the best premier league goal in the last 20 years. Dennis Bergkamp V Newcastle came 2nd Thierry Henry V Man Utd came 3rd
HEGGSY Posted 3 May 2012 Posted 3 May 2012 Wayne Rooney's overhead kick against Manchester City has been voted the best premier league goal in the last 20 years.
Soar Fox Posted 3 May 2012 Posted 3 May 2012 Bergkamp against us. Di Canio volley against Wimbledon. Henry's against Man Utd. Beckham against Wimbledon. Cantona's chip against Sunderland. Steve Guppy's against Chelsea
Happy Fox Posted 3 May 2012 Posted 3 May 2012 It is an absolute farce it has been given to Rooney certainly isn't the greatest I can think of many more.
Kitchandro Posted 3 May 2012 Posted 3 May 2012 Wayne Rooney's overhead kick against Manchester City has been voted the best premier league goal in the last 20 years. I assume that's because nobody has ever scored an overhead kick before. When you ask the Premier League to pick a bunch of goals about half of them will be Man Utd. And who's the best supported club in this country? It was inevitable.

When you ask the Premier League to pick a bunch of goals about half of them will be Man Utd. And who's the best supported club in this country? It was inevitable. There's been better goals in the last 20 days let alone 20 years. Quote from someone on Twitter
Kitchandro Posted 3 May 2012 Posted 3 May 2012 Bergkamp against us. Di Canio volley against Wimbledon. Henry's against Man Utd. Beckham against Wimbledon. Cantona's chip against Sunderland. Steve Guppy's against Chelsea Bergkamp's wasn't that good IMO. It's all made from his first great touch, the rest was pretty simple. Great but not that great. Di Canio's was great to look at but he wasn't that far out. Henry's was pretty special I'd definitely have that up there. If Beckham's in there why not Xavi Alonso? Or other players who have scored from the halfway line (I'm sure there's been a couple more) What? It's the most overrated goal of all time. it's a basic chip. So what? And the celebration is shit too, he just stands there. But cos it's Cantona and Man Utd it's the greatest everything. Try Guppy v Wimbledon
Corky Posted 3 May 2012 Posted 3 May 2012 Bergkamp against us. Di Canio volley against Wimbledon. Henry's against Man Utd. Beckham against Wimbledon. Cantona's chip against Sunderland. Steve Guppy's against Chelsea Le Tissier's against Newcastle.
Kitchandro Posted 3 May 2012 Posted 3 May 2012 Lilian. Nalis. I honestly wouldn't have it too far down the list. The technique is amazing when the ball's dropping from a great height, with spin, and he's facing away from goal.
ScouseFox Posted 3 May 2012 Posted 3 May 2012 Dennis Bergkamp's goal at Newcastle is literally the most outrageous bit of skill, pure strength and cool finish all combined into the best goal ever. End of debate.
Guest ttfn Posted 3 May 2012 Posted 3 May 2012 Yeboah v Wimbledon or Mario Stanic against West Ham for me.
StanSP Posted 3 May 2012 Posted 3 May 2012 I honestly wouldn't have it too far down the list. The technique is amazing when the ball's dropping from a great height, with spin, and he's facing away from goal. I know mate. Me neither. It was insane. Dennis Bergkamp's goal at Newcastle is literally the most outrageous bit of skill, pure strength and cool finish all combined into the best goal ever. End of debate. That's what I voted for. When the list came out, I was hoping our 3-3 vs Arsenal would be one of the games of 20 years. But that was me probably just being too biased .

Try Guppy v Wimbledon Bergkamp probably cause I was there and saw it live it was unbelievable to see. Di Canio fair enough, just always see it alot on the premiership years. Forgot about Alonso's and like you said probably a few more have done it. But that was the 1st time I ever seen a goal like that. Haha give you that. Like others just stands out as its a Man Utd player and the celebration is crap. If only it was in the premiership Muzzy's overhead against Grimsby would be right up there.
Kitchandro Posted 3 May 2012 Posted 3 May 2012 Dennis Bergkamp's goal at Newcastle is literally the most outrageous bit of skill, pure strength and cool finish all combined into the best goal ever. End of debate. I've never seen anything like it before or since. I've watched it so many times and I still can't work out what's going on. He was such a genius.
AjcW Posted 3 May 2012 Posted 3 May 2012 On the topic of crouch... he has probably scored better scissor kicks routinely than "that" Rooney goal. What a joke, there is literally no point in having these votes.
Fox in the North Posted 3 May 2012 Posted 3 May 2012 what a beautiful game, I remember watching fanzone, it made me cry with laughter
Haydos Posted 3 May 2012 Posted 3 May 2012 Although Izzet's was probably the best overhead kick I have EVER seen, Rooney's was sensational. Time, derby, technique, execution. It's honestly one of the hardest things to pull off and to smash it in the top corner was the icing on the cake. Definitely one of the best. Love how bitter and riled people get about Man Utd. Also, Henry's tee up and volley against Utd and Bergkamp's outrageous turn against Newcastle that can only be described as genius should both be up there. Also also, Nalis volley > Zidane Volley.
Jimothy Posted 3 May 2012 Posted 3 May 2012 Even Gary Neville, Mr Man Utd, didn't rate Rooney's goal as the best volley he'd ever seen let alone the best goal. Absolute joke asking fans to vote for anything.

I don't see how those 2 are relevant. It's based on the quality of the goal. No doubt it was an unbelievable goal but there have been other overhead kicks which were just as special. It's not really a unique goal like Bergkamp's or as far out as Henry's (which I think took more skill, flicking it up to the right height on the turn and barely even looking to see where the goal was). It's just my opinion, however if it wasn't Rooney and Man Utd I don't believe it would have won.
