If that's the case then those that did are not true supporters. We need to remember that this team have played together twice in the league (Tuesday team different) give them a bloody chance! they booed for all of half a second if that then clapped the players off. nothing in it at all!

Callabinho Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 No need to sound the alarm bells. My views on today's game. First Half. I thought it was a nervy start for both side's but we were letting ourselves down the most with wayward passing. Abe seemed tired and lethargic to me, but rumor is he only returned from his international duty yesterday so that doesn't surprise me. We did lack width but with the pace of McAnuff and Kebe it would not have been wise to leave ourselves exposed with Paintsil and Konchesky effectively being our wingers. Nugent had no support what so ever, Danns and Schlupp really struggled give him the support he needed, now I am all for playing Schlupp but I felt that today it was the wrong decision from Sven to start him. Despite what people say about him Reading is a big step up from Rotherham and I felt that he struggled to get the better of his marker, so maybe 20mins at the end would have been better for him, he needs to be eased in to avoid smashing his morale. So the first half was a complete disappointment. Second Half. We started much better! the passing seemed to sharpen up a bit and we seemed to be moving a little bit better in midfield, It was a good passage of play that led up to Nugent's chance and IF that would have gone in.....well it would have definitely changed the complexion of the game! I couldn't see clearly what happened for the Reading goal as I was In the Kop, but it appeared that clever movement shook Konchesky and allowed Hunt a free header at goal, so that was a disappointing way to concede. I felt this was a game hinged on the first goal and who ever got it would most likely win the game. After the goal disappointed me the most I don't think the players reacted ad well as they should and after that we really struggled to get a foot back in the game. I was again disappointed with the way we were defeated today because I KNOW we can do better, Reading didn't tear any trees up their organisation allowed them to take advantage our mistakes. This is not the end of the world and hopefully it will give the lads a kick up the arse, we can play better than that and they know it, we effectively handed Reading the game. Anyway I will remain positive and look forwards to Bristol.

We need to remember that this team have played together twice in the league (Tuesday team different) give them a bloody chance! people deal with frustration in different ways.. dont make them any less true supporters at all.. didnt boo myself but was pissed off, dont mean i wont be there next game giving them my full support again but at teh time people are frustrated...

The players need to know that was fvcking unacceptable and actually look like they care (Kasper apart). Players just standing round, giving the ball away and not chasing back, Mills is our captain? Didn't seem to speak to anyone all game except when he was being roared at by Kasper. It was all looking so good until the first whistle blew. Then it went wrong, horribly wrong. Onto the next one, King and Gallagher need to play next match, we'll not do well with Wellens, Danns and Abe in the same team.
dayday Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 On the way to the game talking about the game,my mates were alarmed when i said i think we might lose today No way they said its going to be 3 or 4-0 today easily. Then i gave my reasons,one being Reading were a very well organized good counter attacking side,which Leicester would find hard to break down ,my second reason was that even when we played Cov the players did not really know there roles in the team and it is far from being a settled team,in reality it is probably the first home game we did not really want. Other points that have been mentioned is the lack of pace in the final third,i agree entirely here,the lack of movement is alarming and there is nobody making runs into the channels. The need of a striker a pacey attacking right side player is a must for me,at least its only the second game of the season and in someways losing in the manner we did just might kick us on in the right direction.

buzzy Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 High expectations, low result. Most players had a real shocker today. Abe too knackered from his stint with the Japanese national squad. Wellens and Danns had mediocre games, Fernandes did most of the work in midfield. Passing just won't work, it doesn't klick between midfield and our forward(s). Mills too scared playing against his former team, sub-par performance. Schlupp unlucky, Nugent unlucky AGAIN (bit of a bummer trying so hard and not managing to score). Schmeichel is probably the only one who can leave the scene with his head held up high. Sven - never change a winning team... how long have we got to say nugent unlucky. his goal ratio is poor 1 in 5 games for portsmoth last season that adds upto 9 goals in a season. nugent is not the 20 goal scorer we need i don't care what you say. we need to get a player who can get us 20 goals but who i don't know but we need one know. schlupp is not the answer at this moment . lets get behind the team and players but perfomance today was well below what we should be doing
dave the caveman Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 We can take some solace from the fact that we weren't the only team in the division struggling with crap home form today. Six of the 10 games ended 0-1 and we very nearly made it seven. Maybe there's some vague psychological aspect to all of this, like having spent so long preparing for and looking forward to the first game, the second game arrives too quickly and makes home sides ripe for a smash and grab. In any case I'm not worried yet. The core of the team will come good with time.

We only have one genuine winger in Dyer, and he doesn't even get a look in!
king power Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 same start as last season! sousa bought in new players and we had a really shakey start and he got the bullet! sven you've not got long to sort it out! we weren't good against cov either and we just about came away with 3 points! please sven get it sorted and play king from the start!

Reading had us worked out easily today, they expected us to dominate and they would soak it up and use Kebe to get them up the park, the reality was were utterly fooking clueless with Nugent running his balls off with no support, no width and when we got the ball we gave it away cheap. Add a shocking display by Captain Mills into the mix and there we have Reading's most comfotable 2-0 away win for quite some time I would think. And they've got 12m in the bank.

A really scrappy first half and nothing really for you guys to get excited about in the 2nd half barring hitting the post. I was amazed by how disjointed you looked today, a team of good individuals but not good individuals making a team. Mills, what can we say that we haven't said before. Tell him the game is on telly every week and he'll play a blinder, he likes to get noticed. You pretty much saw the Matt Mills that you will get for most of the season, yes he will have a couple of MOM performances but that's it. I thought Bamba was your best player today, one of the only ones that looked committed to the cause. Maybe a good thing for you to have played us this early, if you can adopt the team spirit that we have at Reading with the quality players that you have, it can only bode well.
