Babylon Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Well that was crap, if you are going to play one up front the players supporting need to be attack minded. A CM out wide and two DCM's is bad enough away, let alone at home!! Mills had a shocker and looked like the CB who cost 250k, not the one who cost £4m plus.. Danns and Abe lost the ball more times than I care to remember. Having said all that I'm not shocked because I called a loss before the game. Lots of gelling and work to be done.
Webbo Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Gallagher needs to start Wednesday. I agree and Dyer needs to be on the bench.
Jaspa Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 1 Win 1 Loss People need to calm the f*** down, were not going to walk this League and our team is set up to fight. I expect a couple of faces in this week. And give the boys time FFS, 10+ new faces what do you expect?! If were not stable in 1-2months then were in trouble
Danno Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Hate how most of our fans always think we'll walk this league, we'll smash reading 4-0 etc etc. Idiots
maynefox Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 He's not He is, My mate at Reading (ST holder) says all he does is HOOF!
Blinking Blue Owl Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Pantsil was, Well just pants he kept kicking the ball to no one . And before some eternal optimist tells me not to be so negative please tell me any footballing positives out of this game for us .
Danno Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Maybe Sven should give me a contract to take set-pieces? Waghorn is actually terrible
somebum Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Let us get over this 'over reaction' tag that seems to be placed on anybody critical of the side's performances under Sven. It is hardly early days in his reign, albeit early days in a season where he can say that the side is 100% his. What we saw from Sven today is a continuation of not just last seasons faults, but the ineptitude that has characterised Sven's management career; lack of motivation, lack of charisma, poor tactics and poor team selection. Yet again Sven changes a winning side, could not motivate the players after going a goal down and resembled a children's entertainer in the dugout by standing up every once in a while to clap his hands. Criticism of the manager is not criticism of the club. The emperor has no clothes but the blinkered naivety of the gullible masses with very short and fickle memories is preventing our club from moving forward.
orangecity23 Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 I'm not sure why some people think Wellens was 'excellent' today - I thought he was average at best. First half he did absolutely nothing - no tackles, barely won the ball at all. He only started to do anything worthwhile in the second half, once we changed our shape and started to press forward and give him the ball. Defensively he was non-existant. I like Wellens, but he was nowhere near his best today. Likewise, not sure about Abe being 'shocking' - he made a couple of very hairy loose passes in the first half, but he also made some crucial tackles and interceptions. I thought there was very little between them, and both could have been subbed easily. I thought Gelson looked very handy, Bamba was excellent at the back, especially against Manset. Pantsil looked solid enough, some crucial blocks in the first half. Seemed a little bit rusty going forwards, but that will change as he gets more games. Schlupp did ok on his home debut - didn't do anything wrong, worked hard, and was starting to look a bit dangerous before he was subbed. On the other hand Waghorn looked poor when he came on, the only thing of note he did was waste every set piece he could get his hands on. Just seems to get worse every time he plays at the moment, 'tis a shame A disappointing afternoon, but I felt it might happen, frigging Reading do this to us every year without fail. Roll up, have a few chances, look like we've got them on the back foot, the win the game by counter attacking down the middle of the pitch with one of their pacy dribblers and score from just about every one of their handful of shots. Gits EDIT - Somebum, you're slating Sven for changing a winning side? Christ on a bike. Did you want Oakley at right back, Ball at centre back, an unfit Johnson holding the midfield and Waghorn starting today, we'd have got absolutely raped. Unless you're talking about the lineup vs Cov - from which there were 2 changes, Peltier replaced by Pantsil due to injury, and Schlupp for the suspended Vassell. I'm not going to slavish praise on Svens tactics today, our set up in the first half was horrendously disjointed in midfield and up front. Gallagher could have come on with King, may have helped to revert to last seasons 4-3-3/4-2-3-1. But your desperate jumping on any possible avenue to use to incessantly ram home your 'END IS NIGH' credo, is just making you look ridiculous. Perhaps you might like to try writing a reasoned or thought out opinion of todays game, instead of coughing up the typed equivalent of that guy near the front of the Kop who spent the entire first half screaming WE'RE SHIT, ERIKSSON'S A CNUT, etc etc. Actually - was that you? If so, thanks for shutting up in the second half. Good to see you're only a nob 50% of the time.
FrankieADZ Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 very poor today..which is a shame....but I can see +'s compared to last season fudge fest. looking at the team sheet, imo i felt that we was a bit too defensive....and we didnt have anyone there to stretch the play. Still we dust ourselves off, get back up to live and fight again. Bring on Bristol City
FoxyLouby Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 I agree and Dyer needs to be on the bench. What they said! I don't agree with the boo'ing at all. I was disappointed with the team's performance today but I would never boo them. I'm there to support the team no matter what the result. I think they'll learn from it and move on....they have to.
Danglo Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 He is, My mate at Reading (ST holder) says all he does is HOOF! He's not idolised by us for it was the context of my quote.
Matt Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 What they said! I don't agree with the boo'ing at all. I was disappointed with the team's performance today but I would never boo them. I'm there to support the team no matter what the result. I think they'll learn from it and move on....they have to. I didn't boo, I do think it is abit pathetic after the first home game of the season, however, I understand people booing, it's just frustration.
Guest shearfox Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Got to be better than that, apart from Kasper, Fernandes and Bamba we were very poor. Reading outplayed us for large portions of the game and look more like a top two side than what we did today.
Sk4 Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 your 5.6m donkey had one bad game today tunchev is on loan at crystal palace if you have already seen enough can I have your season ticket and in case you didn't check the line-ups today oakley wasn't even on the bench [/quote Well that tells me everything about you an armchair supporter if you want my season ticket , go buy one you tight arse , I feel I have the right to criticise I have paid my money so up yours knob
Dicko Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 No need to panic yet, we've lost one game at home against a good side that will be in the play-off mix this season. The players look as though they haven't quite gelled yet, and they weren't entirely comfortable with the formation, but this will improve with games. Mills had a shocker today but surprised some people are already writing him off, he's a quality player and will prove important this season. It's a 46-game season, this is one defeat, so i'm not concerned.
broughtonblue Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 I'm gutted but let's move on and just support our team for a win on wednesday Agree with this. Am I the only one who thinks that schmichael shouting his mouth off every 5 mins could be detrimental to the team. If someone at my work was shouting and swearing at the top of his voice all the time I would soon either tell him to shut the feck up or smack him one
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 I got criticised for saying how poor Sven was tactically last season, but today we had no tactic at all. I said how he was putting players out of the natural position just to accomodate them and it wasnt really working, and the same happened today. What formation was it? Sven says it was 4-4-2 for some of the first half but it didnt look like that to me. Schlupp was really really wide on the left and got no service, why he wasnt playing in the striker role I dont know. The midfield was a joke. 4 central midfielders were playing, and none of them seemed to know which exact position they were supposed to be playing in. Danns did seem to start out wide but soon drifted back into the middle and was ineffectual for the entire game. Dont know why he didnt get subbed off till late on. Wellens had a poor game, and Abe was rightly subbed off but as we had now width bringing King on wasnt the answer. Dyer should have been on the bench and brought on. Sven must decide whether 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 is the formation we are going to play. He needs to decide which midfielders we will play in the middle of the park, King must be one, our main goal threat from last season on the bench isnt a good decison. Hopefully he starts vs Bristol and I'd liek to see Fernandes and Wellens along side him. Far from a crisis, but things definitely need looking at and changing, we have the squad we just need to get the formation and selection correct. And for what its work I dont think we need a new striker, unless we decide 4-4-2 is what we will play. I'd like to sewe Nugent alongside someone to meet his flick ons, Schlupp could be the answer perhaps.
Cropwellfox Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 A whole team's worth of new players signed, and 2 games into the season we've got a kid making his debut, absolutely no width at all, a midfield who didn't seem to have a clue what to do and no ideas in an isolated 1-man band up front. Really hoping this is a one-off, but i'm not so sure so long as we keep playing this formation. So frustrating after all the build up - and Mills completely bottled it today. Can see what Reading supporters were saying about him. Awful - we weren't just mugged today by them, we were mugged paying £4m+ for the hoofing clown.
blueharmie Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 what the fook was today about?? matt mills was appalling today. Couldnt tackle and was trying to push players over. Worst performance i have seen for a while. The first half was a complete laughing stock. Players didnt have a clue. Bamba, fernandes, were pretty good. Kasper was the best by far, getting the players going! Matt Mills looked like a scared child today at the back. That was no leaders performance, he needs to sort himself out and our team needs to play as one.
Socks Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 1 win 1 loss could be worse like for forest i think we will win on wednesday come on guys its only 2 games gone, give the guys time to gel and we are gonna get a couple more in im sure sven/team wont let that happen again but i hope he gives them a bollocking
ta-fc Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 10m spent and no discernible difference between this season and last... Reading had the measure of us today and unless we learn how to break teams down its going to be a long, long season!
Bilbo Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Just got back from the match. It's hard to take something positive from the game but I'll try. Kasper and Bamba played really well, KS saved this from being 4-0. Our midfield looked tired and uninterested for a lot of the game with only Fernandes really putting a shift in. However the main problem/piece of the puzzle that is missing is a decent striker. I lost count of the number of times we didn't have someone up front to play the ball to. We need a striker and fast even if we have to break the bank on it. Nugent looked fairly decent but is a second in command when it comes to our strikers, we can't simply rely on him to score goals. Anyone who thinks Nugent, Waghorn, Gallagher, Vassell, Howard and Kermo""" are a stike force that can get us out of this league is dreaming. Quantity doesn't equal quality.
Babylon Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Not sure what's worse, the performance or reading the same old "we're doomed" posts on here.
Danglo Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Agree with this. Am I the only one who thinks that schmichael shouting his mouth off every 5 mins could be detrimental to the team.
