The side looks full of midfield players.... With no width and pace in attack... Sort this out Sven Same problem as last year. I've been wondering all Summer why we've not been looking at improving the width of the team.

Not sure what quality wingers are out there who we could realistically sign? There must be some.

Is he that bad? He had a bad day today along with probably 9 others. Abe is vital if we are to be successful this year.

They didn't have the better players (though I wouldn't mind Kebe or McAnuff), but they were constantly in our face the first half and never let us get going (though a lot of the time we also shot ourselves in the foot and they didn't need the help.) Which meant we got zero out of the first half and we got frustrated and that made us worse. We were bickering and arguing. Some people have said that we need more eladers on the pitch, but have you ever heard the phrase "too many chiefs, not enough indians"? Think we suffered from that today and it seemed everyone thought they knew what was best and going to do it their way regardless of what anyone else was doing. Mills should have taken control, but he didn't. Speaking of which, Reading had a gameplan to target Mills and exploit his weaknesses - cos who would know them better. Having said that, he should have know "their weaknesses", but there were more of them than there were of him and the certainly tried to pull him around a bit and jostle him. Then just as it was starting to look like we were gaining the upperhand they hit us froma set piece. The 2nd goal - meh - we had decided we should risk everything forward as losing 2-0 is not much worse than losing 1-0 at this point in the season, so why not risk it. A disappointing performance, but not at all what I'm expecting to be typical this season. McDermott is clearly more than a Matt Lucas lookalike.

I can't believe a manager of Sven's caliber insists on a 4-3-3 with Danns on the wing and playing Schlupp out of position. Jesus.

This is the major problem last season and now thus it happens this season, I would like to add lack of urgency in our play this frustrates me so much

No - get your facts right. His last but one corner was the best set piece of the game and came in at head height plum centre of the box at pace, just out of reach of the keeper. The fact no one in Blue was good enough to get on the end of it was hardly his fault. His last corner WAS awful - woeful; but like too many people you base your whole appraisal on "the last thing they did" - which is plain stupid!

It just shows that not only are we missing a striker, we are missing cover for Vassell on the right. I hope that we can sign the striker in the next week, and maybe(and more likely) that we get a winger in on loan. But with the way things are going for us in our search I think it might well got the opposite way. A striker in on loan and a winger bought in. Who knows. But none of the reaction has been unexpected and people are rightly aggrieved. But it has to be said that the point made about Mills, and the knowledge of his weaknesses and the exploitation of those is a fair possibility. Panic and jitters seem to have played a part. Mills will just have to put this behind him. The team will have to do the same. I still think that we need time to settle. We have a team of newbies, and even though we have a preseason behind us, there still will be a settling period. Yes it needs to settle quickly or we'll be left behind, but I am optimistic that it will.

I think the show today looks worse than it probably is. There was serious expectation coming in on the 2nd game at home. Maybe if we had the home game first it would have been different, who knows, ifs and buts. However, i think there is a team spirit there, and they'll pull together to make amends.

After all the pre-match hype and expectation we are brought back to reality with a very ordinary performance against a good, but no means unbeatable, outfit. The first half was shocking. Two serious attempts on goal, both from Nugent, while the simple passing was off, the longer passing just as bad and the real lack of width showing starkly. Playing one up front at home is asking too much of Nugent, and if we are to play with one centre-forward, King has to play as he offers far more threat in the box than any other midfielder. The second half started better, Nugent and King going close, but that was about it. Reading were fairly comfortable and we didn't do enough. Mills and Pantsil were not good enough, only Schemeichel and Bamba stood out, with Konchesky and Nugent doing okay. We must beat Bristol City. We should do, but we need to see far more than was evident today. In fact, it was a typical match at home to Reading, where we leave frustrated and annoyed at a poor performance.

The side looks full of midfield players.... With no width and pace in attack... Sort this out Sven" I suppose you imagine he can split Dyer in two and improve his crossing & passing? We are in need of a right sided winger to replace or compete with Vassell. Perhaps more importantly one who can switch sides if possible. And there's no question about bringing in a striker. You would be in your own minority to disagree that one do not need one.
