Fair enough, but the grammar and spelling of some posters on here is so bad it's very difficult to understand what they're trying to say.

fair play but wouldnt you be struggling with your grammar after 8 pints

To be honest, if I'd had 8 pints I very much doubt I'd be posting on here at all!

who are you, mr grammar police?

edited to support mr grammar man

You have proved his point by completely missing the FÛCKING POINT!!!

It's going to be very interesting to see how Mills reacts to this when we face Bristol on Wednesday.

I just hope he can put this performance behind him and step up to the plate to show why he is our captain and why he was worth the money we paid for him.

Can we all lay off Mills a bit, yea he was poor today, he was rattled from kick off, looked scared to death, quite clearly didn't want the ball! The Reading fans got what they wanted!

I'm pretty sure this is a one off, forget and move on!

Massive perfomance needed by our TEAM on Wednesday!

Matt mills was brilliant in Austria where I saw him, brilliant against Madrid until he went off injured, he had an awful game today but I put that down to the fact we were playing reading, the response from the reading fans hit him hard I think. He was overpriced but in a competitors starting 11, therefore we have to pay more than his Market value!

and why is that exactly

I have seen Izzet have woeful games.

I have seen Linekar have woeful games.

I have seen Flowers have woeful games.

I have seen Lennon have woeful games.

I have seen Walsh have woeful games.

I have seen Taggart have woeful games.

All of these must have been really crap players - you know, like Mills "obviously " is.

Very poor today, I'm sure he's much better than that, but the much-maligned Bamba has been by far the best CB so far.

As for the captaincy, Schemeichel was the very vocal one. He won't accept carelessness and neither should we.

Give him a little longer and then a judgement can be made on him but the first impressions aren't great, haven't seen anything in three and a half games to suggest he's Premiership quality. Especially next to Bamba who was, again, superb :appl:

Don't know what Mills was complaining about after their goal from the corner either. He was the only one appealing for whatever it was.

Sven and Kasper mentioned that Reading 'cleverly' blocked one of our players to allow Hunt the free header. Assuming he was complaining about that.

Mills had a very emotional season with Reading last year, he captained them to the play off final at Wembley, that's a massive thing, 3 months ago he was their hero, now they're calling him every name under the sun, booing him, directing nearly every chant at him, the guy is 24, it must be very unnerving!!

Maybe Sven should have hauled him off early doors and put St. Ledger on?? Who knows!!

Like I said in my other post, very poor game, hopefully a one off, forget and move on, Bristol City on Wednesday!!

Give him time! He was dreadful today and average at Cov and Rotherham but be patient. Would we ALL have been so eager to sign him if he constantly played like this?

Keep the faith and all that

It is far too early to be writing him off but I also believe it is perfectly fair to express some deep concerns.

For the money we paid I would expect all of the following.

The player to be comfortable on the ball and to be able to play an effective pass to a team mate at least 75% of the time.

To possess a certain amount of natural pace. (doesn't have to be really quick but certainly not a slow as Mills appears).

To anticipate the game and to know where the ball is and where his team mates are positioned.

To be able to head the ball and to command his own penalty area.

To be able to bring the ball out of defence with comfort and authority.

So far I would say he looks courageous in the tackle and is reasonable in the air though some of his heading today was pitiful.

However, he looks frankly terrible with the ball at his feet. His anticipation isn't great, his awareness of team mates poor (though I expect that to come in time) and he doesn't seem to be the dominant defender in our own penalty area I expected.

More worrying for me though is his apparent lack of ability in passing the ball. He mainly seems to want to play the long ball and every time he did today he just gave away possession. Eventually he reverted to playing passes two or three yards to players which often put them into a tricky position. In this he really does not appear to be much better than Hobbs and for 5m I frankly expect a lot more.

I'm also pretty concerned by his apparent lack of pace and general clumsy play when faced with an opponent with the ball on the floor.

However, I well remember Gerry Taggert having a pretty woeful first season with us and he went on to become an ok defender for us so I'm not ruling him out yet but I am concerned.

Ok, seemed pretty desperate claims to me. Lesson to be learned though, you don't allow people to block you off in your own box at corners and if they do you make a meal of it at the time not afterwards. Whoever was marking him should have been goal side so that it wasn't possible to be blocked anyway.

Wouldn't have said he was brilliant against Real, he played 40 minutes in which he took a whack through desperately sticking his head in after miscontrolling it and then gifted them a scoring chance.

Think saying that the crowd was the reason is making excuses for the lad a bit too, a bit of booing that got quieter as the game went on and then some chants about him being useless after he had started making mistakes. They couldn't sing "Same old Millsy, always useless" before he'd done anything wrong could they?!

The good thing is though, captain or not, with St Ledger on the bench and Tunch hopefully coming back fit from Palace he won't keep his place if he keeps current form up.

Was like a frightened rabbit staring into headlights! 5 million quid! Either Sven has fooked up on the transfer fee or there's something wrong at city?

This man was readings captain yet he looked like he was an amateur today?

What's wrong?

Maybe it's because he was Reading's captain.

Just seems strange that he went missing in this particular game. Not intentionally mind, but it was emotional for him and his teammates last season.

Bet we won't see another poor performance like that from him for the rest of the season. (Until we meet Reading again that is).

Gonna put today down as a bad day at the office, just froze I think, occasion got the better of him.

He'll be back bigger and better next match, hopefully.

Another nonsense post... How the fook do you know he won't play that badly again?

Mills was poor today, but for some to put this down to 750 Reading fans ruffling his feathers just shows how poor our own fans can be vocally ! Give him time and support and then judge. Oh,Bamba was superb and Schmeical shows great desire and a will to win.

Thats it lads..keep getting behind the lad....fooking hell.....i thought we are all supposed to be in this together.? do me a favour, if war breaks out, keep out of my trench....its very early days ..give the lad a chance ...FFS. he will come good.

Posted

I will give him the bod, yes he had a poor game, their are deficiencies in his game which will be ironed out, but he will come good for us both in the short term and the long term.
