oxford blue Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 I've heard from a Burmley season ticket holder that Burnley have categorically stated Bikey/Amougou is not for sale; it's rumoured now that he wasn't in their squad Saturday for disciplinary reasons. (Burnley need another another central defender rather than sell one). I hope he's right - he doesn't particularly rate him because of his lapses in concentration. And why do we need another central defender?
sdb Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 Hope not. Another defensive signing will only piss players off. Part of the reason we concede so many is the constant rotation. We all know our best back 4 (maybe RB aside), and it has the potential to be immense. Just stick to that sven!
Father Ted Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 I think Bikey is an absolute quality player and the best game I ever seen him play was in Centre midfield for Burnley when they were in the Prem. But I wouldn't have him because: 1) I have just read the 'Sappleton to Man Utd' thread and the 'ELOKOBI.' thread and fear we could have another forum issue on our hands 2) We already have enough defenders and with the Tunch to come back!
Burmesefox Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 There is a fine balance between healthy competition and animosity - too many players (especially when we dont have a "proper" reserve team) will lead to a very very unharmonious and unhappy camp - I'm just worried if we get too many players of a similar calibre. I think we have our back four sorted now - Pantsil Mills Bamba Konch. Bikey isn't going to want to play second fiddle and neither are Mills or Bamba. i suspect The Ledge isn't too chuffed but 3 players chasing two positions is better than 5 with Bikey and Tunch.
Karljohn Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 **** this, we don't need another centre back, just recall Tunchev. Is this an admission that his signings are shite? Worrying. Certainly is, having chucked in anything between 3 and 5.5m for Mills (ive heard different figures from various sources) plus over a million for a defender relegated with PNE, I find this more than a little bit odd, from what I have seen of Bikey or whatever he wants to be called, he's another Sol Bamba, capable of turning in a great performance followed by a shocker the following week. Tunchev is the solution staring right at in the face of Sven, god help us if he can't see it, and I know I am in the minority but I believe letting Waggy go is a massive mistake too.
Guest MattP Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 Absolute lunatic. Dont want a team where you have 2/3 men that could lose it and get sent off at any point.
Will1981 Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 hopefully if we get Bikey it means Sven will be switching to a 5-3-2 formation, it makes sense with how leaking our defence is at the moment.

I would actually like to see this happen proper martin oneil style but I would think we would need an attacking left back as I think konchesky is more of a stable deffender ?
funkyrobot Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 Do not buy this hacker. Tunch is a class above this lad. But then again, on current form, Tunch is a class above mills, bamba and st ledger and still gets shoved out to palace.

It's thanks to the fact that Tunchev got shoved out to Palace that he's displaying this current form, otherwise he'd be sitting in on the bench here (if that) lacking fitness. Now he's proving his fitness/class in the first team at Palace, I'm sure he'll be back very soon.

I have my doubts, I think he's another player that Sven simply doesn't rate - like berner, waghorn, dyer and Hobbs. Think he got a year because of either a pre existing contractual promise or as back up for our back up (like berner)

He's been out for so long, of course he isn't going to walk straight back into our team. He's got to play more than a few games to prove his fitness anyway first.
Bugg Posted 24 August 2011 Posted 24 August 2011 Funkyrobot, If Sven didn't rate him, he wouldn't have given Tunch a contract last month.

Wymsey Posted 29 August 2011 Posted 29 August 2011 Sorry folks for bringing this up again, but I think we should buy him after the rather dismal performance defensively on Saturday. Signing this guy (who's got enough experience) would hopefully put Mills and Bamba on their feet and make them wary of that they could drop out if they make any more mistakes. Saturday just showed we can leak more goals in if they make more simple mistakes and put us in woe.
Bagworthblue Posted 29 August 2011 Posted 29 August 2011 Problem is if we keep buying new defenders every time we leak goals, we'll have more defenders...errrr....... than we do central midfielders and that's saying something!

Saturday just showed we can leak more goals in if they make more simple mistakes and put us in woe. Why? We already have two international centre-halves in St Ledger and Tunchev waiting to take the place of Bamba or Mills. Signing another one is going to make no difference whatsoever to Bamba and Mills' performances. I think Bamba has performed very well so far this season, and Mills's performances are steadily improving. You're right - we are still conceding too many goals, but I think the defence will improve once all the new players are properly settled in. Don't forget, we have six new defenders and a new keeper. Bamba's the only one who was here last season. Forming a solid defensive unit out of these will take time.
MGLCFC Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 Bamba has performed well this season, but I think he is the problem in the defence. I know this sounds a contradiction, but quite often the crowd love his ability to get out of difficult situations and do the flambouyent and unpredictable. However, playing alongside someone who quite honestly is not in control over his own actions and is prone to spontaneous decision making, must be a real nightmare. I think Mills would benefit from playing alongside Tunchev and that the whole defensive unit may be more solid.
ScottybRAF1553 Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 Saturday was at times like watching a pub team defend. We are good enough to play it out sometimes and you can see that Sven wants us to try and do that however the old row z is needed every now and again. Southampton looked like scoring with every chance in the last 20 mins we looked tired lost and lacking a leader at the back. The team must also be thinking here we go again more points about to be thrown away. It will improve don't forget first half was good we don't need another signing at the back or in the middle. Johnson will be fit soon Striker and we are sorted
