Southampton are in form, and we are not really in form....i would have said an easy 2-0 win under normal circumstances...but at the current moment i think it will be 1-1....danns for us, lallana for them

We can't play a 4-3-3, we don't have the right players to play that formation

4-3-3 utilises King properly. IF (and I mean IF) we sign Maynard, we'd really have formidable front six, with Fernandes holding, Wellens creating and King pushing on from deep. Nugent would play from the left as he did with Pompey.

I'm pretty sure Sven wants to play 4-3-3 - he just feels that we're lacking one of the "3" up front.

So why hasn't he bought someone suited to playing out wide then? Surely he can see by now that Vassell can't, and he wouldn't pay £7m for Maynard to play him out wide.

And whilst Nugent can do a decent job out wide, that isn't his position, he's a central striker and works well better with a strike partner.

The only player we've got who should ever be playing out wide in a front 3 is Gallagher - and he's really out of form and doesn't deserve a starting place at the moment.

I'd have the same midfield as Forest with Nugent and Maynard up front. Vassell isn't good enough IMO.

You were making perfect sense until the bit about Gallagher, then it all fell apart.

His only viable position is in the hole, behind the striker(s). He is the only player we have who has the skill to play in Nugent with the kind of balls that have netted Schlupp 3 of his 4 goals in the cup.

How you fit him in to such a role is open to debate, personally i would try the same formation that started at Forest with Gally at the point of the diamond.

(Naturrally I would have King at the base, but thats another argument entirely....)

Would never have King at the base.

I've read with interest your posts about King and whilst I do see what you mean, I think that would completely negate his attacking threat. Swapping him and Danns in the current diamond system would be interesting,

I think Gallagher is perfectly adequate wide on the right of a "3" or a "4". He's just not a centre forward. But we'd be agreed that he'd be best at the tip of a diamond.

Ah man, I knew that as soon as someone mentioned andy king that guy from the invisible man thead would pop up. Presuming soton score 2 as has which seems 2 happen whether the opposition r any good or not we need 3 goals 2 win. So city 2 win 3-2. Conolly/lambert 4 them, beckford, yak and that bloke that makes wine gums 4 us! lol!

Whilst I agree that 'in the hole' is his best position, I disagree he can't play out wide, as he played there all of last season and was excellent. He's a very good crosser of the ball (when on form) and this can be a valuable source of goals.

Actually playing King at the base will improve his attacking threat as his runs will be from deeper and thus harder to pick up, I have given my reasons why many times so I shall not repeat them here.

Gallagher simple does not have the instincts of a striker which made his appearance on saturday in that position all the more strange. As you say he regularly lines up in the wide position and was decent last season, maybe that was because he had an attacking fullback prepared to go past him and provide the real width so he could drift inside to where he is most effective?

With Konchesky that is not going to happen and if we persist with (variations on) the diamond, surely he has to be given a chance at the tip?

Thing that'll help us is that Southampton won't come to park the bus like Bristol did, they'll come and chase the game, which will help us massively. There'll be more room and with Fernandes breaking their play down like he did with Forest, we have a real chance.

Got a good feeling about this.

We usually do well against sides who are on a good run opposed to struggling against sides who are on a losing run.

I'm saying 3-1 Leicester. Mills, King and Nugent with the goals for us.

if they come to attack with our leaky defense we could be in for a right hammering hope not though & we get our act together at home not like the previous games , they are on fire at the mo hope we can sneak a 1-0 win keep same team as forrest danns to score late on !! :scarf: :scarf:
