Guest Bilo Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 Fucking at anybody comparing this guy to Kenny Miller and Kris Boyd. He's on a completely different level to either of them. The trouble is the money. A £6.5m bid rejected shows they aren't going to let him go on the cheap and that's the upper limit we should be paying for a striker as a Championship club. I wouldn't be surprised to see him go to a Premiership club if I'm honest.
MC Prussian Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 Love it - Sven and Andrew are clearly stirring up the transfer market with those fees!

That's steep enough, if Rangers don't want to sell, they don't have to. The whole bigger club / smaller club nonsense on their boards does make me laugh though. Fucking Maribor for the love of Christ.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 Dont know much about him, was shite for me on FM though!
The People's Hero Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 Jelavic would do well here, in my opinion. A few cuts above your standard Championship striker! I wonder how many of these are serious bids where we are actually trying to sign the player and how many of these seemingly quite public bids are designed to show we mean business and will not fanny around with Mr Maynard forever. Also - its about time Heskey had a change of heart and thumbed a lift back home.
Bettsy82 Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 No way I want us bailing Rangers out with that sort of cash due to their (laughable) failures in Europe. Way too much money for a striker who has been made to look better than he actually is by the piss poor standard of the SPL. Good but not for that sort of money.

The problem is that the SPL isn't an attractive league for players, no European football will have the cream of the crop itching to get away from even the biggest clubs. Rangers and Celtic are among the biggest clubs in the British Isles in terms of fanbase, stadia and history but the SPL will always hamstring them when competing against teams from the Premiership. I'm actually surprised Rangers turned down the bid to be honest as I was under the impression they were brassic.
phildw Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 Has everybody forgot what started this thread?!! Rangers have REJECTED the bid - why is everyone acting like we've signed the bloke??
GH1 Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 Rangers thread is reporting bid upped to 8m, no source. They are probably reading this as there is a link so it's funny that they are saying how bigger there club is, very very true but they are very big fish in a very very very piss poor pond
BearInPeace Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 Hi chaps, Just had a quick read through the thread there. The guy is a definite talent and has only just turned 26 so has a lot left in him. He's been a breath of fresh air for us here at Rangers. Everyone's entitled to their opinion and I see a lot of people mocking him just because he plays in the SPL but I think he'd walk straight into most Premier League sides nevermind Championship. With this said, if you did get him I think it'd only be a stepping stone to the PL. Likewise with ourselves but we always knew that anyway. You'd be very lucky boys to be getting him and I'd be sad to see him go. Think he's worth a fair bit more than £6.5mil but I don't think you're too far off the mark of it being accepted. Does he want to play in the Championship? That's something else but you'd be able to offer him better wages so I'd say yes. Oh and yes, Rangers are a big club but we realise we're a poor footballing attraction and not world beaters just for those who think we're deluded due to reading the slightly less talented fan forums of ours.
WeegieFox Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 I would be amazed if Ali would want to let him go after a few disappointing results. The finance would make sense obviously, however, the fan expectation at Ibrox is always massive. There is already chatter in the fan base that there have not been enough signings to improve the squad after several departures (Danns chose us over Rangers..!) so to let a prized possesion in Jelavic to depart with little time to organise a replacement would be a real surprise to me. It would need silly money.....

Thanks for the assessment, it makes a change to get fans from other clubs on here who can actually string a sentence together. Much obliged
Matt Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 Just finished work, Not even gonna read the thread. All I will say is DESPERATION.
The Doctor Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 Just finished work, Not even gonna read the thread. All I will say is DESPERATION. How so? The boy is a fairly decent striker and would do a good job in this division.
Jacnah Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 ****ing at anybody comparing this guy to Kenny Miller and Kris Boyd. He's on a completely different level to either of them. how do you know? (genuine question) have you seen him playing non SPL teams? I'm not saying you're wrong, I just know sfa about him and since the SPL is mostly gash I cant really make a worthwhile comparison.

Manchester United were interested in him at the beggining of the transfer window just about sums it up. He's a class act. Even in the SPL you can see that he his, along with Davies, they are the 2 that dictate Rangers play and if neither of them play then Rangers struggle.
jonthefox Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 Just finished work, Not even gonna read the thread. All I will say is DESPERATION. Add to the fact were being held to ransom.
Bettsy82 Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 I know very little about this guy but his stats speak for themselves.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 30 August 2011 Author Posted 30 August 2011 I know very little about this guy but his stats speak for themselves. 36-24-36? Actually, those are Yakubu's.

Could be promising then; if only somebody, somewhere, and sometime would actually accept one of our offers........hang on...Man Utd Christ we have moved on if we even having this discussion regardless of what happens!!
