Donut Posted 28 September 2011 Posted 28 September 2011 Actually a very good point....defensively we are much tighter than Southampton... Miller got both Cardiff goals and did not have a sniff against us. Yeah were much tighter at the back than Southampton, by ooooooooh 3 GOALS not to mention theyve scored 21 to our 9, and have 6 more points than us Makes me feel so much better about our beautiful 0 0
Jace Posted 28 September 2011 Posted 28 September 2011 Can anyone disprove the theory of drawing away games and winning your home games guarantees promotion? I have heard it a billion times is their any truth to it can someone enlighten me please. believe me if we won every home game we would be expecting to be promoted, dont forget weve already lost our first 2 home games and we are still expecting promotion
Happy Fox Posted 28 September 2011 Posted 28 September 2011 Whatever is to come this season will be a roller-coaster, so fasten your seat belts and expect us to win, draw and loose games but come the end of the season we will be promoted with or without Sven I have absolutely no doubt about it.
Kitchandro Posted 28 September 2011 Posted 28 September 2011 I seem to remember a certain team called QPR which began by not conceding away and getting into the habbit of nicking the odd goal, but were too big to take notice of them Yeh but they also won their first game 4-0 and their second 3-0. They were regularly getting it right at both ends from match one. They also moved the ball quickly in midfield and had Taarabt who not only created plenty but finished top scorer. We don't have a player like that.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 28 September 2011 Posted 28 September 2011 8 points better off than we were this time last season when we ended up finishing 8 points short of the play-offs. I don't have an actual point I just like the symmetry.
jonthefox Posted 28 September 2011 Posted 28 September 2011 It's a marathon not a sprint. We are doing ok Yep.
Guest Col city fan Posted 28 September 2011 Posted 28 September 2011 Yeah were much tighter at the back than Southampton, by ooooooooh 3 GOALS not to mention theyve scored 21 to our 9, and have 6 more points than us Makes me feel so much better about our beautiful 0 0 yeah but you're posts have become increasingly negative over the past few weeks...we're 6 points off the top spot.. try to have a bit of perspective and balance I'm not happy with the boring stuff we are churning out, but it could be much much worse and a draw tonight is a good result
Guest Col city fan Posted 28 September 2011 Posted 28 September 2011 Yes, we already know that you are. silly boy
Donut Posted 28 September 2011 Posted 28 September 2011 yeah but you're posts have become increasingly negative over the past few weeks...we're 6 points off the top spot.. try to have a bit of perspective and balance I'm not happy with the boring stuff we are churning out, but it could be much much worse and a draw tonight is a good result Im still behind Sven, i just feel so underwhelmed with our season. When you look at a guy like Mowbray whos managed to take his team to 2nd in the table, unbeaten, having released 13 players and spent £0 it just shows you what is possible. I AM behind Sven though and we can still mount a serious push.
CKB Posted 28 September 2011 Posted 28 September 2011 youre absolutely spot on...this is why I posted earlier about whether we want to see a more attacking formation which will both score and concede goals, or whether you are happy to go away to Borough, not concede, pick up a point, but be disappointed with another very dull game of football. It could be that Sven needed to get our confidence up, defensively, because he knew we had a problem in this dept... and will now start to sort us out as an attacking force. IF this is the case, its actually very clever management. If wins don't arrive soon i'm afraid Sven is going to have to tinker again because we will keep dropping points and not be anywhere nearer to achieving our goals.. He can only tinker for so long aswell till we all just get fed up with him and more so the board! I really don't think they will be happy if we are sitting 11th after 20 games? i wouldn't
ScouseFox Posted 28 September 2011 Posted 28 September 2011 Depends on your outlook. Stats can be manipulated. You can go along the unbeaten in 8 League and Cup games, about 5 hours of football since we conceded, good results against top teams. You're an optimist. Or, you can say no goal for over 3 hours of League football, without a win in 3, and we lost on penalties in the cup. You're a realist. You're both right, which means we're doing okay, I guess.
stockyfox Posted 28 September 2011 Posted 28 September 2011 Has any team ever won all their home games and drawn their away games? 'Tis a neat little convenient saying but in truth rather meaningless. We have accumulated two points from grounds where most teams will get no points. Consider our earlier inept performances against Reading and bristol City. We have come a hell of a long way in a short time. We used to panic in the last five / ten minutes. Now there's far more composure and method. Folks remark about the quality of teams we have played. Make no mistake, home or away, there are no 'easy' teams in this league. The defence as a unit are playing superbly well - all FIVE! - and poor Sean S Ledger didn't even make the bench. Yes, we now need to score goals and I would be delighted if Sven would start with Jeff Schlupp. To my mind, he has similar qualities to Emile Heskey. He is not easily pushed off the ball, he is tenacious, he is bloody fasr and most of all, he knows where the net is. So come Derby, let him start with Beckford or Nugent OR...........Howard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bert Posted 28 September 2011 Posted 28 September 2011 How many points did we have at this stage last season?
ScouseFox Posted 28 September 2011 Posted 28 September 2011 How many points did we have at this stage last season? 8 less than we have this, why?
Happy Fox Posted 28 September 2011 Posted 28 September 2011 http://www.lcfc.com/page/LatestNews/0,,10274~2466342,00.html? Eriksson said: "This is a very difficult division there is no doubt about that. It has to be the most difficult second tier of football in the world. Whoever we play, whether they are at the top or the bottom of the division is a battle. "It was a fair result tonight I feel. We should have won at Cardiff on Sunday, but there were few chances for either side and that meant that we had to be tight at the back and keep our concentration." The City boss finished by looking forward to Saturday and the anticipated atmosphere of a local derby match. He said: "The fans were tremendous again tonight. I am looking forward to Saturday and the noise. It is a big game, but in truth they are all big games for us. We will be in the training ground tomorrow, preparing, and we will be ready for Derby."
Donut Posted 28 September 2011 Posted 28 September 2011 How many points did we have at this stage last season? irrelevant basis for evaluation of the season imo
Guest MattP Posted 28 September 2011 Posted 28 September 2011 How many points did we have at this stage last season? What's that got to do anything? Can people please stop saying "we are x points off 6th as well"? We should only be interested in what we are off 2nd, we didn't spend this outlay to end the season with a 1 in 4 chance of promotion in a lottery.

Joe. Posted 28 September 2011 Posted 28 September 2011 First and foremost we needed to sort our defence out if we were to ever challenge in this division. Now, after two tough away matches, it seems we may just be getting there. With Nugent to come back in the goals will come soon. Not the worst result by any stretch but a win against Derby would go some way to showing our intent this season.

This. 3 clean sheets in a row against Brighton, Cardiff and Boro, we should be very happy with that. Goals will come.
Happy Fox Posted 28 September 2011 Posted 28 September 2011 http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/competitions/championship/8794814/Middlesbrough-0-Leicester-City-0-match-report.html Leicester City have spent a fortune to try to get back into the Premier League, Middlesbrough have been more concerned with slashing costs in order to stay in business. Not that there is anything to choose between them away from the balance sheets. While Sven-Goran Eriksson has been able to rebuild his Leicester squad completely with expensive signings, Tony Mowbray has had to rebuild confidence and belief at a club that had to sell most of its high earners over the summer. On the pitch, where it matters, you could not tell the difference as both sides attacked with vigour and both failed to take their chances. A long-range strike from Boro’s Nicky Bailey fizzed over early on, setting the tone for a match that flew from one end of the pitch to the other. The best chance of the first half fell to Leicester’s Jermaine Beckford, who somehow managed to head over from inside the six-yard box after Andy King had nodded Richie Wellens’s cross to him. That loose moment at the back re-focused Boro minds, although their finishing also remained wayward, Barry Robson slicing an effort as he tried to take a long ball forward on the bounce before Marvin Emnes forced a fine save from Kasper Schmeichel as he got down low to turn a shot wide. The pattern continued in the second, Yuki Abe dragging a shot across the face of goal for the visitors while a low shot from the edge of the area from Joe Bennett was saved by Schmeichel. Bailey should have done better than head wide from a free-kick at the far post as Boro, who have not conceded a goal in the league for 6¼ hours, finished the game stronger but they failed to make the pressure count. It was Mowbray’s side’s second successive goalless draw, but it was enough to put them second in the table, while Leicester, who have so far failed to justify pre-season expectations, remain on the edge of the play-off places.
