No vassell?? Are you mad?

Vassell in my opinion is not a match winner, he is the player in the team which will consistently gives u a 6/7 out of ten, at home we need players who may get 8 and 9 but also the odd 4 and 5.

Very frustrating! lets hope Beckford is fit for Saturday

Spot on, our midfield which has talent in there is way to one sided.. We miss geniune width and we just don't have it, if Sven can pull some magic in the loan window a couple of wingers could transform us.. .Sven surely must see this issue? he knew our striker issue and went out and got Beckford he must see our width issue.. Depends who is available at the moment aswell i guess!

I'm sure he does, but chooses to play the diamond so as not to concede goals... its a defensive formation and has worked well in that respect.

This is why Sven's tactics are so important to how we are playing

Points away, wins at home is play off form at least.

If we can nick the occasional 3 points away, top two is perfectly acheivable.

I'm dead pleased with the progress Leicester are making, not least in a defence which i have gone from pulling my hair out over to singing the praises of in the space of five games! Bamba and Mills are finally gelling together, and we can build from the back.

Up the foxes. There's no reason we can't beat Derby, to me they're just another team running on momentum - the same as Brighton and Southampton - so here's hoping for another home win come saturday.

And to be honest, now we're picking up clean sheets with relative comfort, and managing to cancel out prolific players like Emnes and Mackail Smith, I'm more than happy for us to do what people warned us that Sousa would do to us - namely, sneak dull 1-0 wins most of the time. :scarf:

Christ, how wrong we were... :sweating:

Excellent post and some very good points made.

Drawing away games, winning home games I take it we wouldn't lose in that time? ;) 4 pts every two games? = promotion form.

Any news on Beckfords injury?!

23 home wins = 69 points

23 away draws = 23 points

total = 92

This is no myth ;)

I seem to remember a certain team called QPR which began by not conceding away and getting into the habbit of nicking the odd goal, but were too big to take notice of them

Why are people seriously not happy with a point away at a in form boro! A point away is, obviously not brilliant but is a good result! Our home form is the problem and people don't seem to see this?!

If and I know we didn't, we won those games at home we lost people would be happy with a point FACT

Irrelevant when you have already lost 2 at home anyway.

I said it when we signed him and will say it again now... Beckford may not be the answer...he blows very hot and cold and has always been highly injury prone. When he's good he's hot, when his mind aint on it, he can be a liability... No-one appears to even want to debate this, but its true.

So Far

Weve taken 50% of the points on offer at home (6 out of 12)

Weve taken 47% of the points on offer away from home (7 out of 15)

Our current points taking ratio would give us around 66 points. This is probably good enough for around 10th place.

lol derby ISNT a must win game at all...

yes it woud be nice to beat the shaggers but ffs the season isnt over if we dont..

a point away against an in form boro is fine. we kept a clean sheet, were still in the thick of things, at some stage we will go on a scoring+ winning streak also as i dont even see this run as our "good run" yet.. we will play better..

Don't get me wrong, I think people are right to be satisfied with a point from a difficult midweek away trip.

However, the result aside, I have to say the performance sounded disappointing. 3 shots on target in an hour and a half of football is rubbish....and certainly not what you'd expect of a team assembled for £11m+ in the summer. I'm sorry, Nigel Pearson could have put a side together to get nil-nil draws for a fraction of the money.

1 Queens Park Rangers © (P) 46 24 16 6 71 32 +39 88

2 Norwich City (P) 46 23 15 8 83 58 +25 84

23 x 2 x 2 = 92 = promoted as champions

one more thing for people to remember, forget all previous games before saints, lets kick on its not about what we have done it is about what we are going to do. picked up more points than southampton did at cardiff anyway.

It's kinda clicked in the defensive part i agree.. But i'm still concerned with the urgency and in the end we can keep 900 clean sheets but if we ain't scoring you aren't going to get anywhere.. Remember the year we went down? one of the best defences in the league wasn't it? not comparing the players we had then to now by the way or saying we are going to get relegated! It's a double edged sword really, i would like more width but that could harm us defensively but who knows everything could click soon

Just abit concerned right now with the set up but Sven is the football manager not me, so i'll trust his judgement for abit longer anyhow!

Actually a very good point....defensively we are much tighter than Southampton... Miller got both Cardiff goals and did not have a sniff against us.

But we have better defenders than last season, plus a proper holding midfielder in Fernandes, I just wish he was played there.

Now we could easily play 4-3-3, if we only had a couple, or even one, quick winger. Sven doesn't believe in them though and we will really struggle to create with the team he is setting out.

I just looked in the OED under "pessimist" and it says,

Lord knows I've encouraged Sven and other managers of our club to get the personnel to play expansive football often and consistently enough over the years but Sven seems so tortuously dogmatic tactically.

The mods don't like us using capital letters to emphasise points but please imagine this in headline size:

"We don't have enough goalscorers and goal creators in the side and because of this we are always going to be vulnerable to endless draws or narrow wins or defeats - just as we were in Rob Kelly's day, the year we got relegated.

The Leicester Mercury published an article about wingers nearly being extinct as if we should somehow be guided by the philosophy of others. Poppycock. We should set our own agenda. And if Dyer and Vassell can' play the flanks get people who can.

The article even quoted as "brilliant" a guy who wouldn't get anywhere near the top of a Leicester wingers list.

People like Lenny Glover, Howard Riley and Derek Hogg and even Steve Guppy wouldn't be ineffective in modern football - they'd create a ripple of excitement every time they got the ball and the precision of their final ball would make chances galore and Vassell look like a trainee.

I'm sorry Trav but talk of being satisfied with a draw in three-points-for-a-win football is just illogical to me and entirely the wrong attitude. In fact it's the philosophy of fear and pessimism - the fear of losing.

Mine is actually the philosophy of the optimist, the belief that each and every game can be won if only we'd focus all our efforts on doing so.

Even with draws there are exciting draws and dogged ones. And we only seem to do dogged on our travels (one half against a pathetic Forest team excepted).

Yes, we're unbeaten but you'd never guess it from the points we've won...just seven from the five Championship outings and four of them stalemates. Some would say four points gained from those draws. I would say eight points lost.

youre absolutely spot on...this is why I posted earlier about whether we want to see a more attacking formation which will both score and concede goals, or whether you are happy to go away to Borough, not concede, pick up a point, but be disappointed with another very dull game of football. It could be that Sven needed to get our confidence up, defensively, because he knew we had a problem in this dept... and will now start to sort us out as an attacking force. IF this is the case, its actually very clever management.
