anglodan Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 Commentary Listening online to the game from Birmingham on Foxes Player & flicked over to the option to hear the Watford commentary team. The BBC duo down there are dull beyond belief. Have no chemistry, very little to say & is all just a bit of a yawn & effort to listen to So credit where credit is due to Stringer & Young, his commentary & enthusiasm for the club is evident, and Young acts a good foil who clearly likes the club a lot too. If you get a chance in the second half, flick over to the Watford comm and you'll see what I mean. Atmosphere The one thing that I did pick up on from the Watford commentary was their evaluation of how quiet the stadium is, despite the 2-0 lead. They went on to comment that the stadium has a reputation for being a library? I know the Walkers is not a patch on Filbo in atmosphere terms, but I didn't realise it had such a bad rep around the country? This could be a case of the opposition being a bit rubbish, the cold weather, the defeat on Sunday. But it was an interesting observation. Anyway. I'll take 2-0 & quiet all day. Up the Foxes :scarf:

He clearly has an ego. BUT Credit where credit is due, his commentary & enthusiasm for the club is evident, and Young acts a good foil who clearly likes the club a lot too. Up the Foxes :scarf: I know people keep comparing the walkers to Filbo, even though I loved filbert street lots of games had a poor atmopshere, I just think our home atmosphere whether it be filbert street or the walkers has never been continuously good. I guess with no organisation with standing and singing it will always be poor.
anglodan Posted 19 October 2011 Author Posted 19 October 2011 I'll agree with you on that, I remember when I first started to go as a kid in the Pleat era. The crowds were below 10000 but as a wide eyed kid I thought that was normal. We had some great matches there towards the end of the Filbo era. But now, at the ripe old age of 33 I feel that many of the new younger fans don't know the words to many songs as I remember back in the day. There is a big lack of variety.
lavrentis Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 Walked past the Walkers earlier just before half time and it did seem quite quiet.
Phube Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 I blame it on the splitting of the Kop. The Chavs go in L1 and the nicer noisy ones sit in the South Stand... At Filbo they were all in one place!

At Filbo they were all in one place! It's not the only factor but, yes, I've said this time and time and time again. Unfortunately saying it on here will make sod all difference. But if you've only got X amount of fans that are willing to sing and you then split those fans between the Kop and L1? Not rocket science, is it, it's bound to make the atmosphere suffer.
acooling08 Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 - It's Wednesday night - It's expensive - It's Watford - Watford brought about 100 fans - It's freezing.
anglodan Posted 19 October 2011 Author Posted 19 October 2011 No worse then st Andrews on Sunday hey!! True

Attendance of 20,000, i think people were expecting too much to be honest
The Doctor Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 I blame beckford - from listening to the moan in it sounds like everything is his fault.
Kitchandro Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 I thought the atmosphere refelected the performance. Decent in the first half when we were playing well and aggressively, rubbish in the second when the game was a complete bore. Plus it's a midweek game and Watford brought 200 fans (I heard it was about 350 but I just don't believe it). If our stadium has a reputation for being a 'library' then it's because it's a new stadium in the 'boring Midlands', no other reason. The people who say this obviosuly do not travel to many away games with their respective clubs.
Guest MattP Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 Worst atmosphere I've seen. Wasn't helped by the standard of the football though, like a league 1 game. Still. Job done.
jamesmilner Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 saturday will be different , we all had an off day today but won 2-0. we can do our job saturday ! i think the quality of opponents (even their couple of fans)brought us down , it shouldnt have ,but did !
Tielemans63 Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 Er... it's the King Power Stadium people - how could u forget a catchy moniker like that? As for Stringer & Young, I've always quite liked them. They're not going to win any awards anytime soon but they seem to have a sense of humour (well Stringer does!) and a genuine affinity for the club.
flowwolf Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 One thing for sure there were never 20,000, in the stadium , not even close. why do they persist in this blatant lie about the attendance ? It fools no one and just makes us look silly. :dunno: :dunno:

Bert Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 You'll never get a good atmosphere with 100 away fans.

Don`t bank on Saturday being that much better. So far Millwall have only sold 200 tickets and they will not be allowed to pay on the day.
AlphaMaleFox Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 We're boring the league into submission. This. Worst atmosphere I've seen. Wasn't helped by the standard of the football though, like a league 1 game. Still. Job done. Great result, boring game, pearsonesque performance. Efficient but dull football There was very little to shout, sing about it. Still 3 points, 2 goals, 4 bitters and I feel pain in my throat...
Thracian Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 There was no atmosphere because once half-time came and went at here was nothing to get excited about. I took a family eight-year-old along for his first game. It was meant to be a treaf and I expected him to be treated to some goals and excitement when the team attacking a kop end but no.... the game eventually stretched out like a flat Fenland road. City played with the mentality of dustmen - job and finish. At 2-0 the game was over and the ambition disappeared. They was no joy in what was offered. Just the functional three points was enough. I heard about four half-hearted songs where I sat and precious little involved reaction once a fairly interesting and eventful first half ended. The second half was so bad the final whistle had the same effect as a vet putting an animal out of its misery .... the prospect of sleep was to be welcomed - an if Stringer and/or Young could force some enthusiasm from themselves then they deserve sincere congratulations. .
MC Prussian Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 It was a match on a bloody cold Wednesday night in Mid-October. I bet it's going to be a whole different atmosphere comes Saturday. Still impressed by the fact that 20'000 people were brave enough to come to the KP Stadium.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 Was a great deal to laugh about though when "hawk eye" shat on that lad in the kop - I don't think I've laughed so much at a game before. Shame it wasn't in the second 1/2 when there was less to watch on the pitch
flowwolf Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 Sorry but there was never 20'000 there tonight . And judging by that second half performance only the brave will stay awake on Saturday. :giggle: :giggle: :giggle:

Still impressed by the fact that 20'000 people were brave enough to come to the KP Stadium. They didnt. It was 17,500 max, I don't know how they can announce this without chuckling. First time I've seen the ground apart from midweek cup games tonight where I thought it was genuinely less than half full. Seriously got to sort this pricing structure out. We need as many people in as we can.
