Thracian Posted 29 October 2011 Posted 29 October 2011 The only aim we have currently is to get into the top tier. That's it. We have to do whatever it takes to achieve that. It's only once we're an established PL club again that we can afford to start thinking about fancy football. Be more realistic. Fancy football? If getting into the top tier is our aim why is it that after 10 years of constantly boring, over cautious managers we've got precisely nowhere?
Raw Dykes Posted 29 October 2011 Posted 29 October 2011 Fancy football? If getting into the top tier is our aim why is it that after 10 years of constantly boring, over cautious managers we've got precisely nowhere? We have money now. I'm pretty sure we'd be a lot better off than we are now if NP had never left and was given some cash to improve his squad.
cc_star Posted 29 October 2011 Posted 29 October 2011 Competence personified? Pearson was a nearly man - a bloke who never showed the imagination and conviction to be a winner (and no I don't count Division One where we still didn't impress for much of the time).. And if he got Hobbs, Fryatt and Waghorn back that would only emphasise my view because all three are "nearly" men. Players with a certain amount of ability but short of the real class necessary to achieve our aims. Of the people here right now I'd only say Beckford might struggle to get on with Pearson. But then anyone who remained an individual but could play a bit would probably fail to click with Pearson. The man sees only one way - his way. And, as it happens I agree with him over Beckford cos he's the sort of seemingly arrogant, self-focused individual who won't easily get any team up. Mackail-Smith on the other hand could be as individual as he liked. The bloke's shows real talent game in, game out, and the whole team would benefit whether he "fiitted in" as an individual or not. That we ended up with one instead of the other still leaves me bewildered. . Good, the team is the most important thing. When someone doesn't pull in the same direction they should be out... Look at ManU & Fergie for examples I generally agree with your sentiment, yes the football wasn't always fast under Pearson & he tactically got the 1st leg of the playoffs wrong but he was on an upward curve we could have been part of, unlike sven who's spent a decade on a slow downward one. It's a results business & Pearson knows what it takes to get a result (barring the 1st leg playoff) I don't think it's right he should come back, but he certainly should have left either.... Bloody Hoos/Manderic/Thais
funkyrobot Posted 29 October 2011 Posted 29 October 2011 There might be a seniors season ticket going cheap if this happens - or a whole lot of other potential appointments. I'm sick of functional football dished up by people who don't seem to give a shit about exciting the fans. Sven had us playing functional ineffective football for most of this season. Other than the derby game, there's been very little excitement. Pearson did a fine job at city and you need to extract yourself from Sven's rectum.
seenitall Posted 29 October 2011 Posted 29 October 2011 Arsene Wenger will be looking for a new job at this rate.................. Not now........

Maybe, but he'd need a personality transplant. The moment you have money to spend on special talent you have to deal with people who might be arrogant, argumentative, demanding, impulsive, unforgiving and uncompromising. Ferguson did it by overlooking all sorts of things until it suited him to be different. Cantona, Keane and even Beckham were prime examples.

Ferguson did it by overlooking all sorts of things until it suited him to be different. Cantona, Keane and even Beckham were prime examples. Pearson was no-nonsense. He sounded mundane in interviews because he didn't want to be there. He didn't care about being in the spotlight, he just wanted to be getting on with the parts of his job that actually mattered. I don't know how or why you've gone from that to assuming he wouldn't be able to deal with difficult personalities. If anything I'd say a soft, whimsical fantasy man like Sven would find it much more difficult than someone who doesn't take any crap. Between this comment and your comment earlier about Pearson not being a winner except for the things he won, I think it's clear to all that you've well and truly lost the plot and perhaps not for the first time.
Thracian Posted 29 October 2011 Posted 29 October 2011 You applied yet, Thrac? You seem to know every manager's flaws They wouldn't want me pal, I can promise you. I'd have Beckford out in an instant and wouldn't dream of playing as we've started today.

What has Pearson won as a manager apart from a Division One title with a far bigger budget than most others and some pretty uninspiring football?

Pearson did a fine job at city and you need to extract yourself from Sven's rectum. When have I defended Sven's brand of football except against Derby and, perhaps Southampton. I'm well glad to see the back of him although not having a redy made replacement is beyond belief. Pearson fell short at Leicester and predictably so. There were countless times I thought he'd have the conviction to move forward with his team but he didn't.
Salieri Posted 29 October 2011 Posted 29 October 2011 They wouldn't want me pal, I can promise you. I'd have Beckford out in an instant and wouldn't dream of playing as we've started today. Why? Because your footballing principles would be in contrast to what they are looking for? Or, because you're about as qualified for the post as my cat?
lcfcsnow Posted 29 October 2011 Posted 29 October 2011 I wouldn't want him back after the negative tactics and the way he treated Gradel but at least he'd find a way of removing Beckford.
seenitall Posted 29 October 2011 Posted 29 October 2011 Is Beckford our new baddie? Can't imagine why he's got the hump, coming down a division to play for an ex England manager and now being threatened with Huddersfield or MK Dons manager...........

The useless ****er got a pay rise by joining us. The least he could do is give a toss. He should play for whoever pays his wages, not when it suits!!
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 29 October 2011 Posted 29 October 2011 Come on!!! Now show some ****ing fight in the right way!!
Tuna Posted 29 October 2011 Posted 29 October 2011 its interesting that dickov has ruled himself out. while we are on the subject of managers who have no chance of even being considered for the job 'ruling themselves out', i'd also like to take this opportunity to rule myself out of the running for the job.

funkyrobot Posted 29 October 2011 Posted 29 October 2011 What has Pearson won as a manager apart from a Division One title with a far bigger budget than most others and some pretty uninspiring football? Yes of course you are right, budget alone was the only factor that enabled Pearson to win league 1. That's why with a far bigger spending budget this year than virtually all of the rest of the championship, we're now sitting at the top of the league. And in your world, where Pearson is useless, Andy King is Fifa World Player of The Year and likely to win the Nobel Peace Prize.
look_back_in_amber Posted 29 October 2011 Posted 29 October 2011 Please come NP Two chances, slim & zero, and slim's out of town
tylesta Posted 29 October 2011 Posted 29 October 2011 Ffs. I didn't think we were that boring under Pearson at all. The Forest 3-0 was brilliant. We weren't exactly a bundle of entertainment under Sven were we? forest game? that was exciting for about 20 minutes. the first half was utter dog shite. the derby 4-0 was brilliant to. don't know about n.p coming back he's building his team at hull who haven't lost in 8 or 9 games. part of me wants him back but part of me don't. someone said in the match thread about the terriors being disapointed with lee clark as manager? fook me what do managers have to do these days. hasn't lee clark just gone 40 game unbeaton run, i'd be happy with a 5 game unbeaton run atm.
dylanlegend Posted 29 October 2011 Posted 29 October 2011 How is winning alot boring!? Leicester have never been a team with slick play and passing like Barcelona or arsenal, never a successful one any way, example is under Sousa and Sven. Our recent successes have been from hard work, passion and playing to each other strengths just like o'neill and Pearson got his teams to do. Good managers play to their players strengths and if Pearson was in charge of these lot he would continue to do so, that is why Pearson is in the same mould as O'Neill, Lambert, Moyes et al. I would welcome Pearson back with open arms... Can't see him wanting to come tho unfortunately!!
Guest MattP Posted 29 October 2011 Posted 29 October 2011 Lennon rulled himself out. Was he ever in? Imagine appointing someone who had the biggest budget in Scotland and can't get above Motherwell....
