Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 29 October 2011 Posted 29 October 2011 What has Pearson won as a manager apart from a Division One title with a far bigger budget than most others and some pretty uninspiring football? I love the fact how people are now saying this. No one moaned at the time, NP was an icon when he was here. The football wasnt that bad at all, it won games and he was very good tactically. I'd have him back straight away. He'd get the basics done first, sort the defence out and get us organised. Except Forest away, and WBA away, we never got beaten heavily. The worst result we would often get would be 0-0.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 29 October 2011 Posted 29 October 2011 My response is, why? Why would he want to come back here after how we treated him? He's a good manager - he's not a complete imbercile!
Thracian Posted 29 October 2011 Posted 29 October 2011 No one moaned at the time, NP was an icon when he was here. Various people criticised his contained and cautious style of play, myself included...and that was right from the start after he'd shown the same approach at Southampton. Yes, Pearson gained respect for his organisation and dogged ability to grind out results. But too often the team was appalling to watch, even in Division One during the second half of the campaign. On some away trips we hardly had a shot.

Yes, Pearson gained respect for his organisation and dogged ability to grind out results. But too often the team was appalling to watch, even in Division One during the second half of the campaign. On some away trips we hardly had a shot. The football was never ever appalling. That is just exaggeration, there was nothing wrong with his football at all. Like I said, he got the basics right first and got us sorted at the back before improving us further up the field. We would always make sure we wouldnt let too many in, which is always better than trying to outscore the opposition. It takes just one goal to win a game. You, like me, have criticised the defence so much this season. Would you not want that organised? Appalling is crazy to say. Is that what you said when we scored 4 against Watford, QPR, 5 against Scunny and beat Forest 3-0? NP slowly started to improve us, he was good tactically. We actualyl started to become even more attacking towards the end of his reign, look at the results. Cardiff away in the PO's for example. And I'd rather not have a shot and draw 0-0 than have loads and lose 3-2.
Corky Posted 29 October 2011 Posted 29 October 2011 Pearson did an excellent job of getting the best out of players and turning around players who'd struggled before (Fryatt the obvious example), and I do believe we'd have been better off keeping him instead of getting Sousa, but he left, for whatever reason, and the club has changed now. I believe the next manager should be someone with no real previous connection to the club (I know I've said Davies but he played about three games so no true opinion could surely be formed) so that they can settle in and we can judge them for what they do now, not based on past times.
Guy Posted 29 October 2011 Posted 29 October 2011 Would be chuffed if we are able to get Nigel Pearson back, shouldn't of left in the first place. One Nigel Pearson! Not sure if any return for him would mirror the very important job he did here first time around as this is a different situation. Pearson was excellent at bringing in suitable players to get us out of eague One and also good (suitable) pedigree loan players from the leagues above during our League One champions season. It was somewhat flukey that the momentum was maintained during our "goose pimples feel" play offs finishing Championship season that followed in 2009-2010 but would Pearson be able to spend lots of money to get us out of the hampionship by what's most likely to be the play offs only now (if at all) - I dunno!
FallenAngel Posted 29 October 2011 Posted 29 October 2011 I was gutted when I heard he Had left us, but I dot think bringing him back would be the best move for him or us, besides, it's not gonna happen, why on earth would he leave Hull right now when they're doing so well and he is part way in building his own Leicester v2?
Guy Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 Hmmm, he never did give much away did he?! - esp. at fortress Belvoir Drive training ground when the press were circulating. He sounds about the same on Radio Humberside!

Who cares if our team works as a solid, disciplined unit to grind out wins if we don't play like we're Barcelona, I mean who cares about winning...
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15413390.stm NP is aksed about LCFC job during his post match interview at 4 mins 47 seconds. As usa he was very evasive and didnt want to give much away. Dont think he'll come back though.
Len Finsbury Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 If I was a Hull fan, I'd have wanted him to have just said "I'm not going anywhere" rather than his politician answer. I'm not sure I do want him back though. Thracian has a point about some of the dire football and I remember everyone going cock-a-hoop when we started to string 2 passes together under Sousa.
Matt Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 He should never have been forced out anyway, I was more upset when Pearson left than when Sven left, that's not saying I was happy Sven was sacked because it was far too early (Although pressure was building on him), I believe people are in support of Sven and so 'shocked' at his sacking is purely down to his name.
lestajigs Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 Ffs. I didn't think we were that boring under Pearson at all. The Forest 3-0 was brilliant. We weren't exactly a bundle of entertainment under Sven were we? FFS, what you on about , I metioned nothing about persons boring football did I!???

Phube Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 Any one hear this? Sounds like he wants it Just reminded me how boring and monotone his interviews were... Good manager though...
iancognito Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 It sounds to me like he's fishing for the chairman or whoever at Hull to tell him he's doing a decent job and show some appreciation for what he's been doing there by giving him a promise of funds in January. If he doesn't get funds there he could get them here should be his pitch when he next speaks to him. As for anybody moaning about Pearson's record, they didn't moan when we got promoted, were strangely subdued when we built on that and edged back into the play offs again and would have been deathly quiet if we'd actually got up that year. For all Sven's pretty football and loan signings, we were inconsistent, leaderless and never looked like a proper top 6 outfit. At least under Pearson we were tougher to beat, had experienced leaders on and off the pitch and looked like we could compete at the business end of the table. I'd sacrifice twenty extra passes and numerous unconverted corners for a consistent run of results and performances. Also, for all of Thracian's complains about Pearson, many of the good, young British players he brought in were arguably better than what Sven managed. Naughton aside, the likes of Cleverley, Mark Davies, Waghorn and Spearing were all better players and more influential than Bruma and Curtis Davies. Not to mention the likes of Yakubu and Ricardo who hardly endeared themselves to people during their time here.
iancognito Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 What did he say I cannot load link?? BBC: Gotta ask you about the headlines about going back to Leicester NP: Said to you before you switched the mike on, it's the first I've heard and you know I don't like to comment about other clubs and I'm not prepared to do that BBC: The Hull fans might be a bit worried by you saying that Nigel, they might want reassuring you're going nowhere NP: (Huffs) Well I don't feel I have to say anything more, I feel I'm doing a decent job here, building a decent squad and we're working very hard
look_back_in_amber Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 Any one hear this? Sounds like he wants it So, he said that he's doing a good job with us, building a good squad, yet that somehow implies to you that he wants the Leicester job, how does that work? I'm guessing that you're one of those desperate people that will attempt to hear what you want to hear if it's for the good of your club. Get real man, the only time you're seeing NP at the KP is in the opposition dug out, then again after this season we will be at least one division apart so you won't even have that pleasure
Cecchini1976 Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 Pearson did a great job for us but would not want him back, but was treated disgracefully by the club, & should have had a chance. No Leicester fan in their right mind could not say he did not do an excellent job
Thracian Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 The football was never ever appalling. That is just exaggeration, there was nothing wrong with his football at all. And I'd rather not have a shot and draw 0-0 than have loads and lose 3-2. Never appalling? What a selective memory you have. 2009-2010:- Ipswich away 0-0 (They were in turmoil but we never tried to beat them), Forest away 1-5, Swansea away 0-1, Barnsley away 0-1 (did we even have a shot?), Bristol City away 1-1 plus a few more. 2008/2009: MK Dons away 2-2, Peterboro away 0-2, Tranmere away 0-2 (Another night with barely a shot). That said, yes, I would welcome the bloke back because at least he seemed to know what he was trying to do - dour as it was at times - and he brought some consistency to the club. He'd be in my top four for a return to be honest because he, of all people, could handle the egos. Whether I'd want to pay to watch is a different question altogether, particularly away.
OzFox Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 Any one hear this? Sounds like he wants it Sounds a lot more relaxed in that interview than he ever did with Stringer Interesting that Hobbs is now captain
ADAMSKI97 Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 So, he said that he's doing a good job with us, building a good squad, yet that somehow implies to you that he wants the Leicester job, how does that work? Leicesterpool Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 Can't see it happening, personally I think Nigel's a manager who likes moving to different clubs, to face different challenges. This is one come back I don't think would work out anyway.

The only person seeming desperate being the interviewer! As other people have suggested I think the NP era is over for us and you have little reason to worry.
