Katy Posted 27 June 2005 Posted 27 June 2005 Im quite sad about this, since I can remember he's been sitting in his countdown chair with his bizzare jacket and tie combo throwing rubbish puns at Carol and a cheshire cat-like grin. He will be sadly missed, Coundown cant continue now it just wouldn't be the same. Rest in Peace Sir!

Solihullfox Posted 27 June 2005 Posted 27 June 2005 James Whale, the radio talkshow host, was a big friend of Richard Whiteleyand has today recounted the following story that happened not that long ago. The dressing rooms for Countdown were refurbished recently. Carol Vorderman's dressing room was next door to Richard's and a hole appeared in the wall between the dressing rooms after the building work had been completed. Richard was shocked and was about to put a call into the maintenance staff, mortified by the hole being in the wall but at the last minute stopped himself and said to James " dammit if she wants to look through, let her " - the chap was a thoroughly nice and genuine man, something that becomes rarer by the day. RIP.
