Who actually wants Pearson?

Can we merge the Pearson threads now, coz it's annoying me having to flick between them, and we obviously can't have that situation continue....

Well I’m personally sad the Sven era did not work and I’m still not convinced he had to go that early but we will never know now will we.

To be honest most names after Sven underwhelmed apart from the fantasy that was MON.

Would have liked Sparky and been ok with a few others, but I think Pearson back is an inspired shock.

I meet Nigel a few weeks after he walked away from LCFC shopping in? Homebase in Sheffield, and walked up to him a said “no hard feelings” and held out a hand shake

He stopped dead and said” I should think not! I never wanted to leave! “Talked to him for ten mins and he was not at all like the mono tone guy from our press conferences at all. Really upbeat, was happy to talk and even dish the dirt. Said stuff about being pushed out and even the birch pushed out? He seemed pissed off about the whole affair. Great guy, big presence and very well thought of around Sheffield

Football is fickle and the u turns of the boo boys beg belief. We weren’t always pretty under Nigel and as with Sven we DID have” bad days at the office” we always will.

Pearson knows this league and will hit the ground running more than any other candidate, he is well respected, and is proven winner at this level and I am sure can work with this new talent at his disposal, maybe it won’t be one up front hoof ball? Maybe that is what was needed at that time with the squad he had.

And that’s be honest boys and girls he is good and better as the other names thrown in the hat.

Unfinished business Nigel? We dream on.

He was my 6th choice.

Di Matteo, O'Neill, Clarky, Sparky and OGS were all ahead of him. Dull bloke, dull football. But, we will win 1-0 a lot.

Oh God talk about throw the monkeys a peanut . You lot said the same old shite about Erickson. This a desperation appointment nothing more. The managers job here is a poison challis , no high profile manager would touch it with a barge pole hence we end up with Pearson despite our all knowing owners saying the opposite. Get ready for turgid football, this really is a massive step back for us all.

For fooks sake it's 'chalice' you uneducated buffoon...

What gets taught at school these days? Is it all 'citizenship' and humanities?

The general level of grammar on this forum is really rather rank... Innit

And your point stinks...

Don't even get me started on that. And especially don't get me started on rock formations being taught as 'Geography'.

Sven had hit reverse, the slow spiral of death that started at halftime Derby away last season had continued into this season, we were poor apart from 1 or 2 games & getting worse.

If they were spoken to, MoN, Hughes & Clark turned us down.

Aside from the appointment of MoN everyone had drawbacks, Pearson fewer than most... Who were you expecting Mourinho, Guardiola or Fergie, which one?

Yes I saw that poll after I'd posted as it was locked and fell down the page. But I think that says it all to be fair. We are asked who our ideal manager is straight after Sven's departure and less than 5% say NP. Then a few weeks go by and we see Dowie, keane, jones etc linked and are led to beleive that MON and Clarke have turned us down ... Suddenly NP is not such a bad option. Doesn't help my feeling that 4th choice is not mildly disappointing. With all of our money and the current position, squad and ambition I just thought we could do better. I find NP hard to be excited about. Maybe it will sink in soon and I'll get behind him ... I liked him last time and was gutted to see him go ... But that was then!

I wouldn't say he was 4th choice, there's no way of knowing from the poll as we didn't rank them in order. The majority selected O Neill, but if he wasn't there, there is nothing to suggest that those people wouldn't have voted for Pearson. Furthermore, if Ferguson, Mourinho, Wenger had been there then he would have been even further down the pecking order according to your logic. People were voting based on reaslism, and Pearson was pretty unrealstic back then. Had he have been a serious contender when the poll was made, he would have been very high up on my list but that could never be reflected on that poll as he wasn't my number 1 choice.

i just think it would be weird if he were to come back. He did a decent job (potentially an understatement there, but not much) compared to many of his predecessors. Hes not the revolutionary we perhaps need and i dont think that, taking into account what we have seen from both NP and the owners, that he will be part of the long term plans for the club.

When i think about his team and the squad we have now, it is quite apparent that it wouldn't be as simple as him picking up where he left off.

If he really wants the job then im sure he will be hell bent on improving on his last season in charge. It could be good enough for promotion, but then what? Surely he will know that the Thai's will want him replaced for something shinier when we are trying to establish ourselves in the top flight.

As a manager coming into the club. I would find it hard to trust the owners now.

:appl: exactly how i feel about the whole thing, only a big name will feel remotley safe, if and when they get promoted

Don't even get me started on that. And especially don't get me started on rock formations being taught as 'Geography'.

I don't wish to be pedantic but;

Geography: is the science that studies the lands, features, inhabitants, and phenomena of Earth.

Geology: is the science comprising the study of solid Earth, the rocks of which it is composed, and the processes by which it evolves.

Kinda goes hand in hand.

Ok

It's still bloody pointless though. lol And you see, I don't even know what geography means!

It not so much what they teach you actually, it's what they don't teach you.

Disappointing as the club appears to have grown in statue since he left.

But I guess we’re not as massive as we’d like to think we are.

I believed after the play off if circumstances stayed as they were we would get automatic promotion, Pearson left and it wasn’t to be.

I was more disappointed to see Steve Walsh senior leave.

Fairly safe choice + we know what to expect, think our owners will encourage more flair though, but not at the price of winning

No point in you going then. That League One season made me proud to support my team again and with a little bit more cash and luck we would of made it to the premier league.

I keep seeing people saying that he wasn't the owners first choice, that they wanted someone more high profile "a name".

Well nobody knows who was or wasn't first choice. What we do know is that the day after Sven was sacked the owners didn't say they wanted a name or someone to promote the club. They said "We want a manager who knows / has experience in this league, and can motivate the players".

So who fits that bill?

Hughes... no.

Keane... no.

Clark... no.

O'Neill... yes and no because it was a long time ago.

OGS... no.

Jones... experience yes. A motivator, I wouldn't say so.

Davies... yes.

Pearson... yes.

So, I would say they have got exactly the type of manager they actually said they wanted. No guess work needed here, it was their words.

Good point, I remember how low I felt when we went down, it felt like we were doomed. He took us back to a more than reasonable position in the Championship in a relatively short period and I think we all felt some optimism for the future under NP and if we see a lot of 1-0 wins I for one prefer that to losing so often at home.

So, who placed a bet and what odds did you get??

As soon as Bert dropped an almighty hint I stuck a ton on, could only get evens though.

You were brave considering Berts recent history!!

I lost a score when he posted that Clark was on his way :(

NB this is not a dig at you Bert  )

Glad he's coming back 'home'. Did a terrific job when he was here. I'd say were very lucky that he's decided he wants a second stint here after the way he was 'forced out' by the club. I can't believe some people on here don't want him back. We had a big name manager come in (Sven) and do nothing. I thought it was a bit harsh to sack Sven, could of given him more time. But now to see Pearson back makes the future more exciting (for me anyway)

Welcome home Nigel!

To be fair I think Clark was on his way, just that circumstances changed last minute. Bert can only pass on what he hears at the time and if the situation changes for whatever reason then that is out of his control. His info may not always turn out to be correct but I believe whatever he posts is correct at the time.

Betting in new managers is always a risky business as names often come out of nowhere, you only have to look at the way the odds fluctuated over the last week, the bookies certainly didn't have a clue.

At least Bert clearly has a credible source (he has definitely been right a hell of a lot more than not), unlike 99% of the other so called ITK's who simply rely on scouring the internet (Twitter) for clues.
