Best supported club?

Recommended Posts

Leeds had a good travelling support on Sunday and I've just read that west ham have sold 6500 tickets for their next game at Coventry , which is mind blowing. Who would you rate as top 5 best supported teams in this league?

West Ham, a team on great form and doing really well with a quality squad of players. Travelling to lowly Coventry who's fans are excited by the fact the club might dig out funds for ONE loan signing.

They're going to sell out really aren't they?

Leeds fans were fantastic yesterday, loud and never stopped singing. They take big numbers everywhere. Gotta give them that. Bet that fox blogger has got his penis stuck in the stats and could tell us the top 5 cumulative away followings this year

Top five in the league, very hard to say. Leeds and West Ham are definites. Southampton surely too, Leicester I feel are a funny bunch, good in numbers, occasionally excellent in voice, occasionally abysmal. Forest are pretty good, I quite rate Cardiff's fans too although not as much as they seem to think.

Probably something like;

1. Leeds

2. West Ham

3. Southampton

4. Leicester

5. Nottingham Forest

I'd probably say the same but us pretty much on a par with Southampton. They are getting more than us now but they would be fuelled by optimism and top of the league with a manager all the fans believe in, playing very entertaining football with probably cheaper ticket prices. I think there's a slight gap between us and Forest in numbers, and a large gap between us and Forest in voice, they are shocking especially at home. We are occassionally bad like Sunday but rarely, and tbf I must admit Leeds were very good and far better than anyone else we'll see at our ground this season. When away support is as good as that it's almost impossible for the home support to compete, no one would have outsung them on Sunday, especially with their team playing like that. Had we been playing most other sides and had we played remotely well or been winning at some point it would have been a different story.

I'd like to take this opportunity to slate Derby's support, it gets on my wick when people and the media (East Midlands Today are the latest) praise their support, it is in fact quite poor, and we all know why they get higher attendances than us. With the deals they get they should be getting 28K like we do with similar deals. Plus they take buggar all away even if it's just up the road, unless of course it's against their bumboys when 4000 fair weather fans turn up.

Whilst I agree they were very good and very loud, there were large parts where they didn't sing.

Yeh i noticed that, they seem to have stopped singing the same thing for 45 minutes solid

I'm not sure. I do agree Southampton have been helped by their early start but I'm not being funny, if we'd just come up and won our first 4, would we have taken 3k to Southampton, virtually all stood and sing for 90 even though we lost 3-2 and got outplayed for one half? Maybe but I'm far from convinced, in-fact I thought our support last year was far better than the year we made the play-offs.

Forest I disagree too. I think their home support is better than ours personally, then again I doubt it's better than what ours was at Filbert Street and I doubt they'd be up to much if they moved into a new ground. But as it is, they're in the old ground, better acoustics, more atmosphere, and for some reason better songs (I hate to admit it but their number of songs which they actually use pisses on ours, especially at home). Away? Seem to me like someone who take a lot away but don't really make much noise.

Derby's is shit. lol I'd love to see how much they got if they had someone equivalent of Notts County/Leicester Tigers competing with them for fans, or if they charged as much as we do. Their away support is a joke and 1,324 at a game 30 miles away, alright at £30 on Sky, but whilst 3rd - absolutely dire. Never rated them vocally and don't rate their numbers as much as some people do.

I agree also about Leeds - they were far from non-stop. Just seems like with them every single one who goes away does actually sing. Make far more noise than you'd expect someone of that amount to.

Leeds are a big club, with a massive fan base. Their support is better than some teams in the Premier League, they never fail to bring a large following.

There are a few teams with big fan bases' in this division; Leeds, Southampton, Leicester, Nottingham Forest, West Ham and to be fair Derby usually take some and Burnley used to be well supported although they arn't that much anymore. Remember, there are a few teams in League 1 as well that can easily beat some of the following in our league. Teams like Huddersfield, Charlton, Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United all have good support.

I know it seems childish, but that really tickled me :giggle:

Leeds fans are so up their own arse it's laughable.

I hear this a lot but I really don't think it's true. We're a really self-deprecating lot and if anything, we're often held in higher esteem or status by the media than many LUFC fans hold us themselves.

I'm always brutally honest about Leeds fans and have always been happy to admit that there is a larger than average proportion of utter ****heads that follow the club who I wish would just piss off and leave the rest of us to it. We also have some straggling racists hanging on who need to be lanced. There's a lot i'd change about our support but following the team around, this supposed arrogance is something I rarely see. Sure, there are big headed Leeds fans but it's not a widespread defining trait at all. We even sing "we're not famous anymore" at most grounds, we are hardly un-accepting of our fall from grace, it is what it is and most of us are comfortable with who and what we are with hopes of future grandeur but no delusions of it being there already.

Anyway, regarding support, I fear there is an increasing desertion of Elland Road. People won't line Bates pocket anymore and pay his crazy prices. The fans are voting with their feet and away matches have never been in greater demand. Those away stats above tell you only half the story. We'll sell all the tickets we're given and then start filling up parts of the rest of the ground too. It's just sad to see Elland Road being such an empty place these days.

For you lot, it seems the other way around. Very healthy crowds indeed at home but much less impressive away. Anyway, in some order, it's:

Leeds

Derby

West Ham

Leicester

Forest

There were five Leeds fans sitting next to me one even tried to disguise it by wearing a LCFC wooly hat laugh.gifbut it was obvious to me who they were. Not that I was bothered I was raised on the back of mixed crowds.

I wish I was a leeds fan.

Said in jest or otherwise, you really, really don't. It's like having a girlfriend with the most appalling BO and a laugh that makes you want to tear your ears off. The only trouble is, every so often she gives you a blowey so good that you actually want to tell everyone about it, including your Grandma. You really want to giver her up and smell the fresh air and enjoy the quiet again but somehow her rampant mouth and industrial vacuum like suction just keep you coming back for more. It's an awful, wondeful bear trap.

Leeds fans absolutely owned L1 on Sunday - and not for the first time..

Good to hear anti-Bates songs get a good airing though. The continued presence of that parasite in football shames our game..
