Walshy5 Posted 16 November 2011 Posted 16 November 2011 Anyone think Nigel will offer any of them coaching roles like he did with Chris Powell? I personally think it would be a good idea. Im sure Nigel will want a coach they,re both model pro's and already on our books so wouldn't affect the wage bill too much.

If you love the game you'd probably have another couple of years at a lower championship club and a good few years in the football league, or playing at a higher level abroad. I think for Berner it's a toss up between that route or going into coaching (should he be offered the opportunity). As for Oakley, I can see him waiting out the end of his contract here and then retiring tbh.

Finnegan Posted 17 November 2011 Posted 17 November 2011 I can't remember if I imagined this or if it's true, of all people Thracian might be able to back me up on this. But I'm sure I remember reading back in the last Pearson era that actually Oakley was one of the senior squad who did the most work with younger players, coaching, acting as a mentor, generally helping out? I've always had the impression that he did more off the field for the club than on it. I personally hope he's played his last game for us but if he's effective behind the scenes I'd be more than happy to have him stay.

And I am pretty sure he said the other month he was taking his coaching badges, so he might have adopted it at training or something? I'd be happy for both Berner and Oakley to stay on and help with coaching. They are both good professionals, and always seem like nice genuine people when I have spoken to them.

Berner- the 4 things i love about berner are that 1- He has been very loyal to every club he has been too 2- he has a desire for football and loves the game. 3- He is so professional in everything he does ! 4- lastly Berner is not affraid to tell someone that they are playing sh*t and need to improve there game. Therefore i would appoint berner as a coach. But with oakley i wouldnt appoint him for me he is happy to sit out of games and pocket his wages and fair play to him but i reckon he is running down his contract and thinking the longer i stay and do nothing the more money i get goes to my wine business therefore i would appoint berner but not oakley.

Oakley has a sensible head on his shoulders and seems like he could give alot back to the younger lads. Oh and Bruno, he's just Bruno. Think Oakley will more than likely carry on with his wine business though.

So he may not have had the best years of his footballing career at Leicester, but he's been around and played at the top level. Whatever critcisms might be laid at his door, a lack of football knowledge can't be one of them. He could do well as a coach. Berner is an eloquent speaker for a footballer, seems to know his stuff, writes a good article and should make a good coach.

Thracian Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 Berner got taken apart by one Quorn move in the Westerby Cup but still impressed me for his professionalism - his unruffled application to the job in hand. He's also shown himself to be a more constructive full-back than I first gave him credit for. An admirable coach in the making in my view although I don't know his motivational qualities and that's an important aspect for any coach cos if you can't make people believe they can fly, forget it. Oakley - and Howard too, - forever encouraged the younger players at Leicester and, for a player with his record of matches played I think it is scandalous for anyone to suggest Oakley he might not care about playing, That Oakley is clearly an accomplished businessman reflects his intelligence rather than a flawed attitude to football and that intelligence would surely be a plus for any aspiring coach.
