davieG Posted 19 November 2011 Posted 19 November 2011 All the Leicester City players have been left in no doubt that new manager Nigel Pearson means business, says midfielder Neil Danns. Pearson had his entire squad available for training yesterday for the first time, and he made it clear in a speech what he expects from his players. Danns was impressed with what he has seen and heard. "Straight away you can see as soon as he has arrived he has an aura surrounding him," said Danns. "You can see he means business. "The tempo in training this week has been increased by at least 10 per cent, that just shows you the effect he is having on the boys straight away. "He has a stature but he also comes across well to the boys. He is honest and he knows his stuff because he has been there and done it. All of that added together gives him the aura. "As soon as his name was mentioned, everyone at the club, not just the players, spoke so highly of him and that is testament to him. "We haven't had long enough yet to work with him, but I am sure I will be saying the same thing in a few weeks." Danns has been in and out of the City side since his arrival from Crystal Palace, who he left in the summer. The arrival of Pearson means a fresh start for everyone but Danns knows the entire squad will need to be utilised. "It is definitely a fresh start for us, but it is going to be the same as before, no matter what," he said. "When you have a big squad, you are never going to be a set 11. We have a massive squad and there is a reason for that, so some are going to be in the team and some are not. "But we are privileged to be at a club like this. It is part and parcel of the game. "We are taking on board the gaffer's ideas and, hopefully, put them into practice on Sunday. "It is a change of man, a change of ideas. We will get on board with those ideas and, hopefully, it will take us to where we want to be." Palace have surprised many with their superb start to the season but Danns said he knew Dougie Freedman's team would be competitive this season. "I haven't been surprised by the start they have made because I know the wealth of talent they have there with the young lads," he said. "Dougie will go on to be a top manager. They have a good chance. They were one of the favourites to go down but, when I left, I knew they would be okay, under the guidance of Dougie Freedman and with the young players. "Dougie is fresh from playing and he knows exactly how the game is played now. "He knows what he is talking about, is honest and a very strong character. That's not a bad mix."
DB11 Posted 19 November 2011 Posted 19 November 2011 Perhaps he's saying that because he knows how much the fans love him

One Arm Babba Posted 19 November 2011 Posted 19 November 2011 Danns needs to sort out his fitness. He has potential but always fades in games. For me he is only 80% fit for a professional footballer.
Chairman of the Bored Posted 19 November 2011 Posted 19 November 2011 Funny how all players say "training has gone up by 10 / 20 / 50% since the last manager." Based on that stat, our squad should be 2,000 times fitter than the one Levein had.
Fox92 Posted 19 November 2011 Posted 19 November 2011 I agree. He looks like a manager that doesn't stand for anything, and can add discipline to the squad which is something I felt was needed, and Sven couldn't do. I also feel Nigel is a manager that is able to motivate and get the best out of the players. Danns needs to sort out his fitness. He has potential but always fades in games. For me he is only 80% fit for a professional footballer. Same as King.

Not much different to Sven then is he?
SMX11 Posted 19 November 2011 Posted 19 November 2011 If Pearson was at Huddersfield with the same backing as Clark you wouldn't still be in League 1.

Guy Posted 19 November 2011 Posted 19 November 2011 At least he's won the third tier. To be fair, we had it pretty easy that Champions season under Pearson three years ago when we were down there in League One, with only the mighty Posh threatening to tread on our coat tails as the season reached it's climax with teams like MK Dons and Leeds flattering to deceive back then. Had Southampton and Brighton (in the form they were in last season - or indeed HTFC) been in League One in 2008-09 then I think it might have been a different story.....though I think we did the double over HTFC that season.....! <_<
Corky Posted 19 November 2011 Posted 19 November 2011 To be fair, we had it pretty easy that Champions season under Pearson three years ago when we were down there in League One, Because we made it easy for ourselves.

People might be impressed to hear how training's been stepped up but people have referred to our inadequate fitness levels and to me that only reflects the shortcomings which were previously tolerated and should never be compromised within an aspiring club. As for Pearson's "aura" I understand what Danns says - Pearson does have a presence that at least ensures there will be discipline, honesty, an insistence on hard work and the setting of certain standards around the place around the place. But as the man in charge - and at a considerable investment - you'd expect him to have presence. What I'm bothered about is his decision-making and ability to respond well when things go wrong and need changing. Cos they will, however well he prepares. And auras can dilute pretty quickly under pressure...as Kevin Keegan might remember. I was talking to one of my son's about Southampton today and asked him how many scorers they had in their side at any one time. Including a centre-back, midfielders and strikers he said six. We often have only three on the pitch at any one time and that explains why we score at a much slower rate (while actually conceding more goals). This above all things has to change. We have to have more potential goalscorers in the team and no less than six to mount a challenge. Our fans are way off the mark when they talk about Wellens, Abe, Fernandes etc ... people who hardly ever score, any more than do our entire back four. Attending to detail should be a given but nothing will be enough unless we change this aspect of the balance in our side. Three or occasionally four potential goalscorers is never going to be enough. Aura or not.
