A tale of two Sols !

I think that Sol Bamba has to be up there as a steal for Sven .I'v been amazed to see some criticism of him on this forum.......but unfortunately not surprised, as it usually only takes one and the sheep always seem to follow ! One thing i know however ......in my opinion........Sol Campbell(who i saw skinned consistently by Heskey everytime we played Spurs, and i always thought was completely overated ), could only have dreamt that he'd had the talent Sol Bamba possesses.

Just be thankful we've got him .......he really is awesome !

Heskey in his prime would have tore Bamba to pieces.

personally I think Bamba's fantastic, he's quick, reads the game well and is a monster in the air... I don't think I've ever seen him miss a header. That said he seems to have a rick in him once every game like in the second half yesterday... At the moment he's getting away with them but if at some point he doesn't he'll soon be labelled a Titus Bramble.

I rate him as 1 of our best players will not be happy if he is 2nd choice behind SSL for the rest of this season in Pearson I trust though. Always wondered if Bamba is really a centre back? always thought he has the potential attributes of a defensive midfielder or even a center foward

Last night showed every face of Sol Bamba. Commanding in the air, strong and sensational blocking / tackles. Mixed in with some dangerous 'flair' play and the odd mistake.

Someone said above about Titus bramble, not sure if he is quite as error prone as Titus but its not a bad comparison.

Great performance from him last night, it was his centre half partner mills who couldn't pass to save his life last night.

And yet a season and a ½ in we're still waiting for his big mistake !!

If he cut out the stupid decision making he'd be a Prem defender. But tried to do stupid things in stupid areas last night.

Still decent last night mind as was Mills.

8 clean sheets :trumpet:

I think Titus Bramble is a very good comparison personally. Loads of ability, with a mistake always around the corner. Bamba tends to get away with it as Championship strikers are no where near as sharp as Prem ones.

Last night, in the first half Bamba got us out of trouble on a number of occasions when neither Konchesky nor Mills could handle the pace of the Blackpool attacks. Does things 'in his own way' which I think is great, despite people moaning I still struggle to recall any occasion where his 'bombscare' approach has even come close to costing us a goal.

One thing was slightly worrying, his play on the ball looked slightly stilted last night, whether down to rustiness or an attempt to follow Pearsons instructions and 'keep it simple' I really don't know.....:dunno:

I've always thought the level of criticism against Sol on this forum, same as against Lloyd Dyer and Wellens, is massively over the top.

Sol last night did what he has done all season... Him and Mills won nie on everything in the air, Bamba broke up their attacking play countless times and cooly laid it off.

We restricted a very good, goal hungry Blackpool side to what? A couple of decent chances?

Sol, for the money paid for him, was an absolute fookin steal!! I hope he stays...

An insult to Sol Bamba. Titus Bramble is not fit to tie up his boots!! He will go in January to a Premiership Club. Best Centre Half in the Championship by far. Even brilliant players like, Pele, were prone to the odd error that's what makes them stand out from the rest. I wish we could have two Bamba's at the heart of our defence cos if Mills is worth 5 million Bamba is worth ten.

I have to agree with a few people above. Yes, Sobe a bit cavalier, but he does things his own way and has still yet to concede due to his 'stupid flair tactics' blah blah blah.

Unforunately I wasnt at the game last night, but from what I was picking up on the radio, he made some dominant in the air, was our only defender to keep up with Blackpools pace, and put in some great challanges. He made one small mistake when he gave away a free kick outside the area where he didnt need to, and Mr Young absolutely slated him! I think some people on here listen too much to people like him. He was slateing Beckford for about half an hour about one little mistake too. FFS, no wonder everyone on here moans so freaking much with people like Youngy infecting their minds.

Hahaha! Sol bamba is a good defender but isn't a patch on sol Campbell in his prime! He was by far the best centre half in the country! Never was overrated.

I personally would put Bamba in our top 5 players this season. He is a rock at the back, winning headers, making last ditch tackles and really puts off forwards. After 10 mins last night the blackpool forward had pretty much given up going for headers. I personally like his 'bambaisms' so to speak, he makes the game more exciting and never seems to mess things up too much.

The only criticism I would say is that he seems to give away silly fouls in dangerous places, for example he had his arms around a blackpool player last night when trying to win the ball, he would never have got away with it in a million years and there was no need for it, yet they were gifted a free kick.

Bamba is a funny one. I think he's very good but I share the notion that you somehow always feel like he might slip up and drop a clanger.

Weirdly, he seems to tread the line between genius and madness.

But there are plenty more defenders around who look a bit more 'solid' (boring) but actually aren't as effective.

Great asset to the team. Reads the game, tackles well, great in the air. And sometimes scores!

Love him to bits but cant help but worry the stuff he does wont fair as well in the premier league as it does in the championship.

Bamba is our best player.

It annoyed me to hear on the radio after the game that Alan Young wanted the 'flair' coached out of him. **** off. Bamba is great as he is. He hasn't cost us a goal with his antics yet has he? His overall contribution more than makes up for the odd time he messes up (and usually recovers from because he is so quick). It's ridiculous that a premiership club hasn't snapped him up from us.

He was our stand out player against Madrid, making some excellent tackles on the likes of Ronaldo and we would be alot worse off without him in the team. Him and Mills compliment each other perfectly.

Him and mills do compliment each other well . Miills is a head and kick it centre half.. Bamba can play quick and is also strong in the air.

Mills and bamba both get caught in two minds( n.p will sort!! concentration)

Which is where sol did wrong last night. I.e rather than just helping the ball on , he tried to bring it down, in the end he did neither, thus putting us under pressure .

Mills's short passing is suspect under pressure , but that's not his game ( remember he is a centre half) . What makes me laugh at the k.p( library ) is how he can play ( mills) 3 or 4 60/70 yard cross field pass too feet lol and not get a clap!!! But one bad pass the grumbles start.

These two are quality support the team....!

He had a good game yesterday, but I wouldn't compare him to Sol Campbell, he is no patch on Campbell. At the end of the day, there is a reason why Campbell played for Arsenal and Bamba played for Hibernian and now Leicester.
