MattyFromLE Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 Get 10 points from out next 4 games should be the aim, then the January transfer window is absolutely cruical to us, we need wingers and a replacement for Wellens, a target man as well Why? On his day his passing and vision is incredible. He is very often our engine room/creativity. I don't think our lack of strength/creativity is solely Wellens' fault, not 11 months ago were people making video's of him because we were convinced he'd leave for West Brom/Birmingham (or whoever had been looking at him)

Salieri Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 I've avoided this thread thus far due to the defeat so my only question is...are people overreacting as usual or putting things into perspective - i.e the fact we were down to 10 men for the majority?
ajthefox Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 Just got back. Can't be bothered to go into detail as yet because I'm shattered but what I will say is that was fucking gutting. Defended brilliantly and really did not deserve to lose, much the same as Hull certainly didn't deserve to win.
chili_con_carne Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 It's weird how I've read no comments on here about fryatt scoring against us? Thought it would be more of a big deal, or was it just meant to happen.

I think some people are overreacting, I don't think this match reveals much about the Pearson reign so far. It was always going to be tough with 10 men, and we defended valiantly. Just need to forget about it and focus on beating Posh next week.
Happy Fox Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 Away from home is what concerns me the most, at home we are good value and always likely to get 3 points.

Guest Bilo Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 It's weird how I've read no comments on here about fryatt scoring against us? Thought it would be more of a big deal, or was it just meant to happen. Probably because it was from a penalty and he did fvck all else. Bamba had him well and truly covered today.
Simmo86 Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 We defended like demons 2nd half, and if Gally hadn't been a selfish twat and Dyers touch been a bit better we could of pulled off the perfect smash and grab. Just seen the penalty decision, really not sure about it. Cracking first tackle by Mills but his foot definitely comes up after his initial tackle, don't think it was a sending off though never a goalscoring opportunity. Just need to scrape this and move on, hopefully with 3 points against Posh next Saturday
Head Honcho Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 Here we go again putting points on the board before they've been won. People did it last season and looked foolish in the end. Doncaster beat Southampton today and, far from being a certain win for us, they'd probably love another scalp like that. And, from the sound of even our first half-hour performance today I can't see why they'd not fancy their chances. . I can see your point and I certainly don't think they'll be a walk over but if we are going to be a top 6 side for the second half of the season these are the games we need to win. If someone asked me what three teams I'd like at home this month and what team I'd like away then these four would definitely be near if not at the top of my list. Donny done well to beat Southampton today but Southampton will imo start to struggle. Very limited squad and a few injuries will surely be their downfall...........maybe we could put in a cheeky bid for Rickie Lambert! I'd certainly prefer him over Jelavić.
marbelladave Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 Evening all, got in an hour or so ago, a couple of beers and some nice homemade curry and now a view on the game..... First half hour was messy, what good play there was came down the flanks and that was from Hull. Peltier and particularly Konchesky were put under a lot of pressure, Konchesky in particularly looking a bit vulnerable. The penalty, when it came, was pretty clear cut, a clumsy double tackle that took Mclean out at the second attempt. Red card was as inevitable as it was harsh, not the worst tackle you ever saw and the ball was running away to Schmeichel by the time Mills' second lunge caught Mclean. A penalty and a sending off for that offence was simply a nonsense, a tight decision just goes against you and you are fooked, so incredibly out of proportion. The City players were incensed, whether for the penalty or the red card card I am not sure, but they harnessed their energies and fought back hard and quickly to get an equaliser within about 10 minutes, a miss hit shot from Nugent fell to Konchesky who tucked it away very neatly, with his right foot. The rest of the half was, surprisingly, dominated by City but after the break Hull took control and their pressure just kept building and building. That said, the City defence was resolute and in the end it took a fine strike from Koren to give Hull the points. The City players worked incredibly hard but to my mind there were mistakes made from the outset. We started very slowly and seemed to have absolutely no idea that Hull would come at us down the flanks, so much for inside knowledge. Hull seemed determined to make progress in this manner but we really did little to counter the threat. After the penalty we had what I thought was our best spell, but at a tremendous cost in terms of energy expenditure. It was not long into the second half and several City players seemed to be struggling for fitness, Gallagher came on for Danns to little real effect but the removal of Nugent for Fernandes struck me as odd, particularly as Gllagher was employed as the lone front man. Whatever quality Gallagher has it does not extend to contesting high balls or playing with his back to goal and that cost us. With no one to chase the long balls or to hold up play, City were in a bit of trouble now, the ball was coming back at them time after time and the winning goal, when it came was not unexpected, despite the efforts of the city defence. My reactions to the performance are mixed, at half time we were playing so well I actually thought that we had a chance to win the game, 10 men or not, but Hull played it quite well, pressing hard and spreading the play wide. Whether deliberate or not we played a bit deeper and suddenly we were posing no threat whatsoever, just hanging on really. The effort put in by everyone was pretty monumental yet as so often with City this season the team simply did not click. No one is immune from criticism though Konchesky was good after the first half hour and Schmeichel, Peltier and Nugent were OK, the rest were below par or worse.
Happy Fox Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 Why? Pearson has a pretty good record when it comes to picking up points away from home. Possibly although if we want automatic promotion we need to win away from home, or actually rather be more consistent ( today was a one off as we had 10 men)

Happy Fox Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 Hopefully we will have a better second half to the season, certainly every team will have its ups and downs, we could sneak that second automatic slot come the end of the season I hope.
Guest Col city fan Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 Possibly although if we want automatic promotion we need to win away from home, or actually rather be more consistent ( today was a one off as we had 10 men) Are you still going on about automatic promotion! We aint good enough. Any side that comprises gally, danns and Beckford ain't gonna win the league.. You can dream. Make excuses, blah de fookin blah but this is clear to me. Play offs at best.
Happy Fox Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 Do I need to repeat myself? No I understand what you are saying, it is just pre NP era with Sven in charge our away form was pretty abysmal.

Judge us after the January transfer window where NP can make a mark on this team.

Yeah cos the teams who went up last year were just packed with superstars weren't they? Gally is a useful squad player as is Danns. As for Beckford, I doubt there are many teams in this division who wouldn't like him as part of their striking options.

Brooksy Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 We always seem to be on the receiving end of some woeful referees decisions away from home. Forest, today, arguably Coventry and Birmingham. Got to be the team with the most red cards and penos conceded this season surely?
Simmo86 Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 We won't go anywhere till we sort our piss poor central midfielder out. Wellens and King can't ever get control of a game, they might do alot of good defensive work but thats mainly becuase they're getting dominated.
Salieri Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 We won't go anywhere till we sort our piss poor central midfielder out. sign a couple of wingers and get some genuine width. (central midfield is the least of our problems)
Simmo86 Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 Having width and wingers is fine, but no point in having them if we're getting dominated in midfield
Happy Fox Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 Having width and wingers is fine, but no point in having them if we're getting dominated in midfield So how do we prevent being dominated in midfield, a defensive midfielder?
