Bert Posted 17 December 2011 Posted 17 December 2011 Why are they being floated in towards the edge of the area? Waste of a decent scoring opportunity, but no. They're too easy to defend and Donny broke 3/4 times today from them. Get it sorted!
Simmo86 Posted 17 December 2011 Posted 17 December 2011 Must be nearly 100 corners since we last scored from one! Similar run last season! Where's Foxblogger when you need him!
Corky Posted 17 December 2011 Posted 17 December 2011 They've been shit since Muzzy left. I don't see why we don't try and get him in to the training ground to work on things like this. Muzzy was an expert set-piece taker and someone who is close to the club.

Leicester_Loyal Posted 17 December 2011 Posted 17 December 2011 We've scored from about two corners all season, absolutely shocking. Surely Mills or Bamba should get a couple of goals from them?
acooling08 Posted 17 December 2011 Posted 17 December 2011 To be fair, SOME of the deliveries from Gallagher this season have been very good. But we don't have someone who can score in the air from set pieces anymore. Walsh, Elliot and even Taggart were big threats under O'Neil. Later, Heath and McCarthy could occasionally pop up at a corner and score. Scowcroft and Deane also were decent. Since then, for the past 5+ years, we've had nobody really capable of getting 5+ headed goals from corners. Bamba, the only player to occasionally meet a cross, can't direct his headers in the right direction, let alone at goal.
CountesthorpeFox Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 Must be nearly 100 corners since we last scored from one! Similar run last season! Where's Foxblogger when you need him! You could argue we scored from one last week.
GeorgeArmston1994 Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 Why does Gallagher still take them, Ive got a season ticket and gone 7 away games and ive not seen him put a decent corner in yet. He needs to whip them in and not float them becuase he struggles to beat the first man!
Dan Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 They're a fvcking embarrassment for the second year running, we're without doubt the divisions least effective side from them.
Number 6 Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 With some of the ariel ability we have our threat from corners has just not been great enough. Needs addressing.
Simmo86 Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 Anybody see FLS last night? Whittinghams delivery is how corners and free kicks should be taken!
Legend_in_blue Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 Although Gallahger's corners aren't the best, who else can take them who is better than him? Answer: No-one.

Bamba, the only player to occasionally meet a cross, can't direct his headers in the right direction, let alone at goal. To be fair, ask any Reading fan and they'll tell you Matt Mills is more than capable of scoring 5 plus goals every season. (look at our home game last season and the p/o final). Our problem is certainly the delivery. As has already been said in this thread the delivery is woeful. No pace on the ball and put into the wrong areas more often than not. Its so frustrating as Mills and Bamba could and should have contributed 4/5 goals between them by now, but we're not giving them the decent balls in at set-pieces they require.
Fox92 Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 Konchesky seems to be decent at set pieces, I think he should have a go at taking one. What's to loose? I also think we shouldn't aim them at Bamba. I still think Mills and Peltier are the best players in the air at the club. If you looked at Reading last season, the corner take drilled them into Mills and all he had to do was direct it. Corners have been a massive problem for many season's, probably as above, since Izzet left.
FrankieADZ Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 considering Gally is meant to be a "Set Piece" expert...he cant take a corner for toffee. I thought Danns took some decent ones when he took them..
NewquayFox Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 Too predictable, mix them up and change the corner taker every other one. .. ;0)
Corky Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 They're a fvcking embarrassment for the second year running, we're without doubt the divisions least effective side from them. Yeah, but the TV say we're dangerous from set-pieces* *Obviously reading the 2002 Yearbook for stats.
RowlattsFox Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 S'alright, Waghorn will be taking them again soon Mills and St Ledger both have ability to score the odd goal, so should Bamba. And King and Peltier are both decent in the air. Winger who can take a corner would be brilliant in January. Koren would be nice as well.
Thracian Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 Sheehan was our best corner kick and free-kick specialist in recent seasons by a distance and that's the sort of deliveries we need. Fast, spinning wickedly and always into places that are likely to hurt the opposition. We do have players to exploit decent corners if we can somehow instil some attyitude into them. There needs to be more movement and they need to move in from deeper which will have the effect of spreading the defenders slightly. And variety is paramount. No two corners or free kicks should be the same. Defenders have to be kept guessing. But our coaching staff really should know all this.
MrFox781 Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 What we should be doing is putting in dangerous inswinging crosses. One way Danns/Gallagher and the other side Konchesky. It will make it more easier for attackers as a simple flick would go flying into the net. With outswingers the attacker has to generate the power with his head and then direct it towards goal.

Disagree totally. Anyone who has scored any number of headed goals will tell you they LOVE an outswinging corner. Thats how they generate the pace by attacking the ball. Outswinging corners are also a lot harder for 'keepers to come and collect.
dannythefox Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 We have to be the worst team in the league at scoring from corners!
