monsieur grande Posted 20 December 2011 Posted 20 December 2011 St Ledger , we dont do well when he plays, think, bristol city at home, and the recent matches. Bamba maybe good enough, but he makes those irratic unforced errors, and more important he will probably be on internation duty in Jan and Feb. Mills is gonna have more suspensions no doubt.
StanSP Posted 20 December 2011 Posted 20 December 2011 Behold... The amount of ass-loving he gets on here, he could do the job of Mills, Bamba AND St Ledger.
Captain... Posted 20 December 2011 Posted 20 December 2011 Sol Bamba, Matt Mills, Sean St Ledger, Tunchev are all proven at this level, we do not need more new players, especially in an oversubscribed position, what we need is for these proven players to start playing well and playing together, and they will. We have had to chop and change the centre backs since Pearson came due to suspensions so give them time to play together under NP and then judge them. FFS Who do you think we can sign that is better than the 4 we already have?
cc_star Posted 20 December 2011 Posted 20 December 2011 We need a new team Kasper & Peltier aside you're not far off right
Corky Posted 20 December 2011 Posted 20 December 2011 Behold... The amount of ass-loving he gets on here, he could do the job of Mills, Bamba AND St Ledger. He is Bobby Moore, Paolo Maldini and Phil Jones rolled into one.
StanSP Posted 20 December 2011 Posted 20 December 2011 He is Bobby Moore, Paolo Maldini and Phil Jones rolled into one. Struggling to match what part of Maldini Tunchev has. The eyes? Yeah, definitely the eyes...
Fox92 Posted 20 December 2011 Posted 20 December 2011 If it isn't one player it is another. Get off of St. Ledger's back, apart from the mistake against Bristol City, he has looked like a fairly good centre back, and in my opinion, has looked better than Mills. Sean can be quality at this level. He formed a great partneship at Preston, who made the play offs for several seasons running. We do not need more central defenders, St Ledger and Mills are proven at this level, Bamba looks alright and I am confident Tunchev will be the player we all know. Plus, Peltier can always slip in there if there are any suspensions or injuries.

wellyfox Posted 20 December 2011 Posted 20 December 2011 Exactly. Other areas need more attention. Yeah like the four in midfield.

sphericalfox Posted 20 December 2011 Posted 20 December 2011 SSL doesn't get any credit for the times he's had to cover his partner, and make some crucial interceptions. He only gets pulled up on mistakes he has made. As he should of course, but some of those mistakes have been made under serious pressure due to Bamba's nonchalance too. I think SSL is a good CB and if he isn't 1st team choice, he's better than most CBs that we could look to bring in.
Blueforever Posted 20 December 2011 Posted 20 December 2011 Don't need anything doing to the defence, get the midfield sorted and the defence will be solid

yag101 Posted 24 December 2011 Posted 24 December 2011 I think the tactics need addressing more than the personnel. Attacking, 'football-playing' sides tend to be successful in this league.

I think he's been very professional, sat patiently waiting for his chance. Deserves more credit that he gets.
The Fox and The Crow Posted 24 December 2011 Posted 24 December 2011 Much like the rest of the core squad members (new and old), Mills and St Ledger are capable of considerably more than we've seen from them. There were not that many acquisitions made over the summer that individually looked like bad buys. Our lack of achievement this season is due to the lack of squad balance and the fact that so many of our players are unrecognisable from the players that were here (or elsewhere) last season. I think a couple will need to go in January to accomodate new players that will be required to re-address the afforementioned balance, but drastic and hasty decisions on certain players who have previously proven themselves to be very capable (again here or elsewhere), seems unnecessary for the moment. Some may prove to be past their best, some may have been no good in the first place and others may turn out to be a bad fit for this team, but my personal view is that the majority will come good and at that point we can sensibly offload the deadwood.

Kitchandro Posted 24 December 2011 Posted 24 December 2011 TBH I don't rate Mills or St Ledger from the evidence so far, but Bamba has made mistakes and Peltier's form has been very poor recently. I'd like to see a Tunchev and Bamba partnership given a chance. I think we can cope with the defenders we've got, the midfield is the area that needs attention.
Charl91 Posted 24 December 2011 Posted 24 December 2011 Defence is the position we have most sorted. Yes, we've made some stupid mistakes. But it's much improved over the defence we first had when Sven joined. Now, if only we had the attack we had then..... I thought Peltier has been one of our most consistent players!

MrFox781 Posted 24 December 2011 Posted 24 December 2011 IMO we need a settled back four. but with mills getting suspended all the time it doesnt help. how many different central defending partnerships did we have last year. with vitor, ben mee, bruma, curtis davies, jack hobbs, micheal morrison and bamba. keep it settled.
