Jimothy Posted 10 January 2012 Posted 10 January 2012 Can't see it mentioned, but it says in the Merc that they believe the fee to actually be £1.85 and not the £3m mentioned. £1.85? That's cheap! Surprised Donny accepted it.
Sniffer-Clarke Posted 10 January 2012 Posted 10 January 2012 SSN Are saying that Doncaster are going to offer B.S. a new contract, come on nigel lets move on.
wellyfox Posted 10 January 2012 Posted 10 January 2012 Starting to think this is worse than the summer. Think our league position is gonna fvck us up. Praps proves one thing. Don't matter how much money we got.
Guest shearfox Posted 10 January 2012 Posted 10 January 2012 SSN Are saying that Doncaster are going to offer B.S. a new contract, come on nigel lets move on. I would be surprised if he signed a new contract with Doncaster when better options are available.
Fox 4 Life Posted 10 January 2012 Posted 10 January 2012 I would be surprised if he signed a new contract with Doncaster when better options are available. Agreed but personally I think if he wanted to be here it would be sorted by now. Stalling for other options IMO. Nugent did the same in the summer and that worked out ok but not so sure about this one

We know nothing of what is going on behind the scenes. Stringer said Wednesday so lets not get all negative just yet.

Nugent did the same in the summer and that worked out ok but not so sure about this one Can you really blame a player for wanting to evaluate his options before signing with anyone? Just because he's weighing up his options doesn't mean he'll not try as hard wherever he ends up. Take Nugent for example like you said, he's one of our most commited players on the pitch. He's a guy coming into what should be the prime of his career and it's a decision he needs to make sure he gets right and i for one aren't going to hold that against him.
Bettsy82 Posted 10 January 2012 Posted 10 January 2012 Billy sharp will not transform our team it's the midfield that is the key area where we are failing we need two good midfielders a playmaker and a holding midfielder. As well as that we desperately need wingers. although I'd welcome sharp as he is a top striker I don't feel he is the key to us succeeding this year.
Thracian Posted 10 January 2012 Posted 10 January 2012 Surely we've got some alternatives lined up. It's the 10th day of January now and if we're going to sign people we need to start doing it now so that it lifts the confidence of other players thinking about signing. I can just see this dragging on like the Maynad saga, not coming off, and leaving us boloxed for other signings and options, not that I thought signing anyone any good would be easy in the first place. If there are options and they're good ones let's sign people who want to play here instead of people who want to play us off against the rest...if there are any left now, of couse. Managers should always have options. If Sharp wants to stay at Doncaster - and I could well understand it - let him just say so and let us move on. How difficult is it for us to ask the bloke?

teblin Posted 10 January 2012 Posted 10 January 2012 It's a big decision for the guy, if he needs a few days so be it. Just hope it's decided one way or another this week. If not look at other targets.
Thracian Posted 10 January 2012 Posted 10 January 2012 In terms of a contract I'd ask him what he wants. It his skill he's selling - we're the buyers. Let him say what he wants and if it's acceptable agree the deal there and then. If he wants to go to auction or stay at Doncaster then we should just opt out and turn our attentions elsewhere. If he insists on us making an offer I'd make one and give him the afternoon to accept it or otherwise. Unless there's an aspect that was overlooked I'd never change an offer once made. If an offer isn't good enough so be it. The door would close and I'd try not to give it another thought. There'd be no second chance. Once people know they can hold a gun to your head you've no chance.
dannythefox Posted 10 January 2012 Posted 10 January 2012 Billy sharp is on 11k a week I don't think donny could even pay him 15k and were offering 28k he would be mad to sign another contract with them but he really wants to stay living in Sheffield so who knows!

Agreed. I hope we're showing interest already in other options (e.g. Maynard, Jelavic), first of all so that if Sharp turns us down then we're not starting from scratch with the next prospect and, secondly, if Sharp sees we have other irons in the fire then it might concentrate his mind a bit quicker. We don't want to end up seeing the close of the transfer window looming and having to make panic buys again. I haven't seen much about Maynard over the last week apart from the alleged 3mil bid from Hull; could we get him with a cheeky bid at a snip of a price?
chili_con_carne Posted 10 January 2012 Posted 10 January 2012 I don't think we need him, nugent is a top striker and we've got beckford, waghorn on the way back, schlupp in 8 weeks. I would look to bring in some new midfielders and a cheaper option up front as back up. Like Gary madine or a prem player on loan.
Libertine Dream Posted 10 January 2012 Posted 10 January 2012 Football manager syndrome has kicked in again. Deals aren't done in a couple of days and when its his family's life that is affected, its understandable he is taking his time. In the summer I heard an agent say on the radio that it often takes 2 weeks to complete deals. Normally you wouldn't know if we'd had a bid accepted or not, its just Donny chose to advertise it.
Bettsy82 Posted 10 January 2012 Posted 10 January 2012 So what happens if sharp signs and he receives the appalling service that beckford and nugent are getting from our second rate midfield. Do we give him a few games and then start shouting how shit he is like everyone has with Beckford. Wise up city fans !
dannythefox Posted 10 January 2012 Posted 10 January 2012 Sharp and beckford are complety different beckford doesn't look like he wants to be here just like fryatt did when he wanted out. He's not got the service but you have to make you own luck in this league and make something out of nothing like nugent does sonetimes, give sharp a chance he will more than likely score, beckford has not taken any of them chances he's got if waghorn was to have 25 games and he'd only scored twice everyone would be saying he's not good enough!
Fmfox Posted 10 January 2012 Posted 10 January 2012 Billy sharp is on 11k a week I don't think donny could even pay him 15k and were offering 28k he would be mad to sign another contract with them but he really wants to stay living in Sheffield so who knows! How much money does a person need? He seems like a great guy and if he is happy in Sheffield then maybe he isnt bothered about the extra cash

So 15k or 780k a year he would be so mad to stay would he. Not everyone is just after money and at 780k he is praps happy and would rather stay where he is. That really don't make him mad but may make him happy. Plus he is praps looking at it and even spoken to Becks as they played together once. And thinks why do I need the shite that lot dish out after 5 matches I can not score for 10 here and will still be a god. As I have said before we ain't the b all and end all of football cos we ahve a few quid.

Doncaster have a philosophy of loaning players and helping to move them on to bigger things. In that team Sharp will never be playing in a settled side and Doncaster are more than likely not to progress beyond a side fighting relegation. He would be stupid to not move whether to us or somewhere else.
wolfgang amadeus Posted 10 January 2012 Posted 10 January 2012 For people discussing Jelavic on the other page, the big croat is a much better player than Billy Sharp, of that I have no doubt.
