ivarti Posted 29 December 2011 Posted 29 December 2011 Nigel Pearson and his squad has still a good possibillity to reach the play-off's, and hopefully it will happen with the right additions in the January transfer window. We have one of the best goalkeepers in the Championship in Schmeichel, so that is one to keep The right back position also looks ok with Peltier covering that, regarded as one of the best talents in the league Paul Konchesky has done ok, and one that would be regarded as a good left back at this level The central defence is a bit of a riddle and with SSL transfer listed, Matt Mills not performing at the level you would like, it is difficult to find the right blend. Bamba and Tunchev are also available and a good partnership should be able to build. So far both Sven and Nigel have not shown that they can solve this. A key is to find a player who is left footed and can be able to play at the left side in the defence. The four defenders mentioned should be good enough to cover in the middle. The midfield is not working as well as you would have liked and pace and creativity is lacking both wide and in the middle. Wellens and King can't really make it, Danns and Abe are both good players. Dyer and Gallagher can't play two games in a row at their highest level and that might be a management problem and not a player problem. Would be perfect to add one central midfielder and a wide player with pace. Jimmy Kebe, not doing as well as you would have liked at Reading, is a candidate, but for the central midfield position it might be difficult to find the ideal choice. Up front it should be enough power and skill to keep it going. Beckford and Nugent should be quality at this level. Schlupp has abillity and Howard is still a player that can perform at this level. Waghorn is also a good player that should be possible to get going again. The big question for Pearson is to find his momentum and start building from there. Sven did some terrible mistakes when he let Hobbs, Fryatt and Morrison leave. Young players who had established themselves in the team and performed well game in and game out, they were also key players in the squad with a bit of experience and knowledge about the club. Continuity is a key and should never be faulted. Players I would have liked to see in a City shirt and could be available are Ambrose (Crystal Palace), Howson (Leeds). Reading captain Jobi McAnuff. Hopefully we can build from the squad City have at the moment, add the right quality and see if that can bring us up the table and into the play-off's when May is coming.
Legend_in_blue Posted 29 December 2011 Posted 29 December 2011 Hobbs, Fryatt and Morrison. ivarti... :xmaslaugh:
Tielemans63 Posted 29 December 2011 Posted 29 December 2011 Jimmy Howson? His brother Jonny is a much better player.
Kitchandro Posted 29 December 2011 Posted 29 December 2011 A central midfielder who can unlock a defence and at least one pacey winger who can just knock it buy someone and put a good ball in. Without this we can't hope to go up. I'd also argue we need another striker.

Milton Keynes Fox Posted 29 December 2011 Posted 29 December 2011 By having a defence stop conceding goals To have a tough-nut defensive midfield (bamba) To have an attacking midfield who can pick passes and hit 'em and score To have two decent wingers who are capable of unlocking teams and creating chances By this we will have Nugent and Beckford who are more than capable of scoring, actually scoring and we might have a chance of promotion But until then we will have to not get promotion with the likes of wellens and king not creating chances and unlocking teams, the same as gally and dyer. I can wish.
MrFox781 Posted 29 December 2011 Posted 29 December 2011 By beating portsmouth on saturday might help. only a thought.
Kitchandro Posted 29 December 2011 Posted 29 December 2011 And you'd still complain. Actually I've done a lot less complaining about Pearson than others have done. Especially those people who defended the indefensible with Sven.
leicesterseddon Posted 29 December 2011 Posted 29 December 2011 Mills needs to improve, but he won't whilst he's alongside Bamba. Forming a partnership with him is next to impossible. So that's an area that needs to be addressed, although I'm not sure NP will do it via recrutement. We need steel in the midfield. Alright, I know that's a vague cliché...but it is true that we won't get anywhere whilst players with pace can simply walk through our midfield into an over-exposed and over-stretched back four. That means dropping King and Wellens, and probably Abe too. Johnson looks as though he'll be off, so we need new players. Seems unbelievable to be saying that after the number of central midfielders we've bought, but that's what I think. Such a waste and IMO best demonstrates Sven's woeful transfer policy. Obviously, we need wingers - with pace if possible. We need to beat men and get the ball in from the line - expecting our strikers to compete in the air when it's coming straight from the back is totally unrealistic. Good wingers will win you games - the only way for opposing teams to stop that is to mark them, which in turn stretches their middle four and gives our own midfielders space to create chances. And a 'target man', who can compete in the air like Steve Howard but can play 90 minutes and use his feet. Games in this division are full of 'easy goals' once defences tire...and we aren't scoring any at all.
purpleronnie Posted 29 December 2011 Posted 29 December 2011 With a lot of new players and if the impossible happens we'll need a shitload more.

Someone tough in the tackle and good in the air Get four players in, of sufficient quality, in those areas and we will soar up the league.. C'mon Pearson get em....
Callabinho Posted 29 December 2011 Posted 29 December 2011 Ill add to the we won't. Because we just won't...
I am Rod Hull Posted 29 December 2011 Posted 29 December 2011 Its highly unlikely we`ll go up this season so lets stop dreaming and look forward to the Olympic games....
dannythefox Posted 29 December 2011 Posted 29 December 2011 The only way we'll get up this season is if we get very very lucky and spawn the play offs!
Head Honcho Posted 29 December 2011 Posted 29 December 2011 Let Howard nowhere near the first team again and sign some decent middle of the park players.
Kitchandro Posted 29 December 2011 Posted 29 December 2011 Jesus we're only 5 points of the play-offs folks, with half the season left. I know we aint been good but there's still hope whilst January lies ahead of us. Also there aren't many good teams in this league, the ones above us won't be steamrolling it for the rest of the season, they will have inconsistencies. I'll wait to see ho we buy before writing it off as mission impossible, though results must come soon or we'll be too far adrift.
Richard Posted 29 December 2011 Posted 29 December 2011 Why does it HAVE to be this season? Can we not rebuild a dysfunctioning squad now, write off this season and give it a real go next season. A "quick fix" won't get us anywhere.
Richard Posted 29 December 2011 Posted 29 December 2011 And I think with a bit of work this squad can easily win promotion. Bring in some creativity in midfield, Akos Buszaky type player. Add a couple wingers and maybe a Rickie Lambert type player and we can beat anyone. We just need to reinstall that attitude we had in Pearson's first time here. He's fixed a broken group of individuals before, why not again?
ivarti Posted 29 December 2011 Author Posted 29 December 2011 My thoughts are that City should try to play with a system that suits the current squad of players, and by that use players correctly in the positions they are best. Agree with the fact that new wide players are needed and maybe one player in the back, who are left footed and can be part of a partnership in the central defence. Agree also that Bamba is a man that lacks tactical know how and not easy to play with. My suggestion would be to try a 4-2-3-1 system. I would like to give both King and Wellens a chance but in different positions than today. Giving Wellens a position alongside Abe in the 2 central midfield positions, King just behind Nugent and get two new players to play in there with King among the 3 behind Nugent. Let's see what happens !

A "quick fix" won't get us anywhere. Because if we dont gain promotion this season we won't have justified spending in and around £20 million over 2011, and I don't think the owners invested in and around £10 million this season to finish a steady 12th. All in all if we don't achieve promotion this season it's a failure!
Corky Posted 29 December 2011 Posted 29 December 2011 Change our name to Southampton or West Ham United.
