AyewJoking Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 Sorry if this is up somewhere already, I've checked the general football and sport archive, premiership and even the arsenal bashing thread. What do people think of Thierry Henry's return to Arsenal? I think its just 2 months on loan but will it be a worthwhile move? Can he still do a job at this level? How has he been doing at Red Bulls in MLS?
purpleronnie Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 No big deal it will help him get fit for the new mls season, I still think he can compete against premiership teams. As for the MLS he has a pretty good record around 1 goal every 2 games.
cairnsy Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 I think its a more of a mental boost for the squad more than anything
MikeyT Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 Absolutely loved him first time round. Excellent player. I'm not an Arsenal fan but I hope he nets a few goals. Great to see him back.
Captain... Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 I thought it was also because they were going to be losing a few players to the African cup of nations, Gervinho and Chamakh, so would be limited up front, Henry will still be able to cut it in the prem, whether he will be able to live up to his legend status I don't know.
Matt Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 Hmmmm 2 man team for two months as opposed to the 1 man team in RVP.
Ozwin Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 I watched him in the MLS from time to time. The service he got was woeful and he still managed to bang in goals, he's still got something in the tank. He won't set the world alight but he'll get a few goals for sure.
Kent Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 Glad it's happened but he's not gonna start ahead of RVP and I can't see them changing their formation just for him so I'd imagine he'll just get 20 mins here and there.
Finnegan Posted 4 January 2012 Posted 4 January 2012 Henry on loan? Kieran Richardson? The Emirates must have seriously ****ing bankrupt them.
Stuliasz Posted 5 January 2012 Posted 5 January 2012 I watched him in a game for New York last easter, played like he had already retired and couldn't even score against Jimmy Nielsen (of Leicester reserves gambling fame) who was in goal for the opposition.
Corky Posted 5 January 2012 Posted 5 January 2012 I loved his volley against Man United. My favourite of his goals because it helped us to go top of the league
Yojoe36 Posted 5 January 2012 Posted 5 January 2012 Nah. Can't say he'll massively turn it around for 'em. Can see him doing his (in)famous two yarder's on crucial games, then everyone will hate him.
Alexikokopops Posted 6 January 2012 Posted 6 January 2012 Henry on loan? Kieran Richardson? The Emirates must have seriously ****ing bankrupt them. I've only just seen the Richardson thing The thing is Arsenal are one of the few clubs not to be screwed over by a new stadium (what with the resulting Highbury development and having a sensible loan on it), and were one of the few clus to turn in a profit, so you think they'd set their heights a bit higher. Just to clarify, the above is in reference to Richardson. I love Henry.
ajthefox Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 Never used to be a big fan when I was younger but have to admire his ability. I did smile when I saw a replay of his goal against Leeds too. Video of all 226 goals (was one including leeds but got removed), makes great viewing. It all looks so easy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHoegnR1Xes
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 This 'oh he has lost his pace so he will be poor statement I have heard said a few times by pundits is bull. He has gone from quick to average pace, quicker than Fryatt still. He has a great brain and is the sort of player who will get one chance and score. Good signing

Never realised though, until I watched that video that his first hat-trick came against Leicester, the bastard!
ScouseFox Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 That goal against Liverpool at the end of that, 220 something in the FA Cup was simply unreal. I was there and the fvcking pace he went at was like a racehorse. His first touch went literally 40 yards, he out muscled Jamie Carragher, went past another and tucked it home. Still one of the best goals I've ever seen.
FantasicMrFox Posted 24 January 2012 Posted 24 January 2012 I think the major thing that Henry brings back to the Arsenal squad is composure. Arsenal lack players with composure which has let to a lot of under par peformances and missed chances. Henry is as cool as they come in front of goal and 9 times out of 10 will score given the chance. Van Persie the only other gunner who seems to keep his cool, the rest seem to scuff it or hesitate. Other than that, with Henry not as fast as he used to be, will prob be more of a creative player, watching him against Leeds, he didn't exactly fight for the ball, more expected it to be fed his way. Against Swansea more of the same, however this time his work rate increased, but it all ties into fitness levels doesnt it. When we getting Lineker back in?
