Pearson changes transfer plans

Leicester manager Nigel Pearson admits he has been forced to re-think his transfer targets this month due to numerous absences.

Prior to the January transfer window opening, Pearson insisted the squad was unbalanced and that signing wide players was his priority.

However, injuries to strikers Darius Vassell and Jeffery Schlupp and midfielders Paul Gallacher, Andy King, Matt Oakley and Frank Moussa, coupled with defenders John Pantsil and Sol Bamba going away to the African Nations Cup, have led to Pearson altering his objectives.

"We have picked up one or two knocks and with the departure of one or two players we don't have great numbers," said Pearson, who brought in Aston Villa striker Nathan Delfouneso on a one-month loan deal this week.

"One of our aims in the window was to bring in some wide players, but circumstances have changed a bit and we are just trying to get good players into the football club."

The City boss added: "I am always looking to strengthen the team and the squad because we are trying to build on a squad ethic so when we do pick up injuries or players are out of form we have players who can go in there."

The Foxes are waiting to discover the extent of Paul Gallacher's latest back problem.

Gallacher had to be substituted just before half-time during the 2-0 victory at Southampton on Monday night.

The Scot suffered with the injury earlier this season and Pearson is waiting to see what the damage is this time round.

"Gally is one of our best technical players but, unfortunately, he has picked up an annoying injury. We will just have to see how he is for the long term," said Pearson.

"He has had this injury before. It is his back. He wanted to carry on but unfortunately he couldn't. We are struggling for numbers now."

Gallacher joins fellow midfielders Andy King, Matt Oakley and Frank Moussa in the treatment room, while Michael Johnson is not fit enough for action.

Think he is content with Dyer on the left and Drinkwater on the right for now... Unfortunately for Drinkwater as he prefers to play down the middle...

Ben Marshall is coming in hopefully so he could play on the right.

Basically instead of being after 1-2 wingers, we are now after 1-2 wingers, a centre half, a striker and a central midfielder. But in most goobers eyes this means the Thai's have told Pearson there's not as much money as before and that we're in the shit.

The money is probably being spent on releasing some of the deadwood I would have thought, doesn't mean that their isn't an ample amount of money to get the players we are after, the wingers and other priority positions.

In theory we are not changing our transfer plans as we are still after wingers and central midfielders etc that we wanted at the start of the transfer window before the injuries piled up?

everywhere seems to be spelling it 'gallacher'

And the Sky commentator insisted on pronouncing it like that throughout the match the other day, was unbelievably annoying

How can Pearson have new transfer targets when our owners have done a runner with all their cash and left us high and dry after losing to Barnsley??? lol

I've had the same thoughts... Don't make sense does it? Bloody shame an all cos a fit Johnno ( rather than a fat Johnno) could be a bloody good player.

Its shocking in the time he has had to get match fit a normal person with the right training and conditioning would of been match fit by now not to mention £25,000 per week to help
