marko Posted 13 December 2012 Posted 13 December 2012 If his a good player of spin (which was evident yesterday), it might be wise him doing a Michael Hussey. Huss was an opener who is a great player of spin so when he started playing tests they played him as a 5 or 6. I should imagine that's what they'll do if Compton cements the opening spot with Cook.
Guest MattP Posted 13 December 2012 Posted 13 December 2012 Watched from when Pietersen went out and i must say Root and Prior looked very good in defence. Can someone please tell me a bit about Root, is he the next big thing or considered lucky to get his debut? Noticed only young and only has an average average but solid for a 21 yr old. Opening bat for Essex, considered very promising and was originally the choice over Compton before some behind the scenes stuff. Should play for us for a long time in all forms of the game.

Guest MattP Posted 13 December 2012 Posted 13 December 2012 Yorkshire? I have absolutely no idea why I typed Essex there
surrifox Posted 14 December 2012 Posted 14 December 2012 Yorkshire? Geoffrey Boycott on the radio earlier "He's got a bright future this lad, could be one of the all time greats, joining Len Hutton, Herbert Sutcliffe, Michael Vaughan and myself as legendary opening bats for Yorkshire and England" - gotta love Geoff- he's right but its best if others say it
Guest MattP Posted 14 December 2012 Posted 14 December 2012 Looking very comfortable now. A very exciting young side coming together.
Captain... Posted 14 December 2012 Posted 14 December 2012 I have definitely enjoyed waking up during these last few tests watching the last session. Woke up today to Tendulkar's middle stump being rearranged by Anderson. Great knocks from Root Prior Swann to rescue up from a precarious position. Shame nobody could push on for a century. So if the opportunity comes up do we make them follow on? Scoring isn't coming quickly on this pitch, but do we want to chase a low total on a 5 day old pitch.
Guest MattP Posted 14 December 2012 Posted 14 December 2012 Scoring isn't coming quickly on this pitch, but do we want to chase a low total on a 5 day old pitch. No way, bat them out the match when the picth is better. No reason for us to end up in a situation where we could need to bat out 60 overs. Turn it over to the bowlers with a decent lead, nothing above 200 is being chased down on this pitch.
Guest MattP Posted 14 December 2012 Posted 14 December 2012 We've actually got a problem with young talent now, too many coming along, no idea how we are going to fit Root, Compton and Bairstow in the side. Pretty good position to be in when the test batsman who is most vulnerable is Ian Bell who averages over 45.

Guest MattP Posted 15 December 2012 Posted 15 December 2012 Young talent? Compton? He's 29! I know what you mean though I knew some smart arse was going to pop up with that when I typed it. I still wouldnt rule out Root grabbing that spot and Bairstow being six, I actually want Compton to stay now having heard the barmy army song for him, it's a cracker 'Titch' Taylor isn't too far behind, either. He didn't really do much wrong did he? Decent scores against the best attack in the World and then a run out that wasn't his fault.
Captain... Posted 15 December 2012 Posted 15 December 2012 As many posts today as wickets was not expecting to wake up to that.
Alexikokopops Posted 15 December 2012 Posted 15 December 2012 As many posts today as wickets was not expecting to wake up to that. So the follow on, yeah?
purpleronnie Posted 15 December 2012 Posted 15 December 2012 Lets just hope the slow run rate results in a draw.
Captain... Posted 15 December 2012 Posted 15 December 2012 So the follow on, yeah? Yeah, don't think we should enforce it.
Simmo86 Posted 15 December 2012 Posted 15 December 2012 Looking alot better now than an hour ago! Dhoni run out on 99! Need Ashwin out early doors tomorrow
Guest MattP Posted 15 December 2012 Posted 15 December 2012 Going have to make sure we don't give any wickets away, make them earn every single one. Pitch doesnt look like it's going to turn, just getting slower and slower.
