MattGamble92 Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 There are many parts of threads on here where the man comes up. Some love him, quite a few hate him. Ok, he is young-ish. He can be an arrogant nobhead. But for me, his style is a breathe of fresh air. When compared to the recent John Barber, he is in a completely different league. At least he is slightly controversial and not afraid to offer an opinion. This is how it should be. Yes, ok his first duty is to deliver unbiased commentary, which in my opinion, he does and does very well. But he also does his best to add to debates on the forum and doesn't just sit on the fence like previous commentators or even the Birch. He may get on people's nerves, but all i would say is we are very lucky to have a commentator so passionate about our club, who isn't a cardboard cut out and is genuinely witty and interesting to listen to. Or we get John "Derby fan" Barberella back. Your choice.
accessory Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 There are plenty on this forum who could do a better job than Stringer. He was just fortunate enough to appear on reality TV and use that as a platform to build his career. Yes he does a better job than Barber (a sheep) or Nevile Foulger (a sky blue) before him. But that just shows how low Radio Leicester have set the barrier..

I think his career on Radio was more of a factor than being fired by Lord Sugar

But that just shows how low Radio Leicester have set the barrier.. How? They hire someone who has previous radio experience, shows a proper interest in the club due to his support for it. How is that setting the barrier low and who exactly could they have got? Let's face it, whoever got the job after Foulger/Barber would have been loved or hated. Stringer isn't perfect, but who is? Sometimes I feel like some City fans just go out looking for something to moan about. How productive is this topic, really?
Guest Col city fan Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 I have mixed views on Stringer.. He comes across as young, keen and energetic.. And then he comes out with a complete turd of a comment that makes him sound like a little kid!
skinnydipper Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 I absolutely loathe it when he uses the term " worldy " as in " ..... scored an absolute worldy " Aaaaaaaargh !
Guest MattP Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 Used to think he was alright, blocked me from Twitter for a light hearted pisstake about him knowing nothing. willy puller.
cc_star Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 Wish he'd describe the on-pitch action better Whenever we're in R5 (or extra) it's an amazing, refreshing difference I do like many aspects to Stringer though, just wish he painted a better picture on the action happening that moment

There is an old saying, the harder I work the luckier I get... to get to be a commontater and reporter on local radio or anywhere else is not down to just fortune..
MrSpaM Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 All i'm saying is try listening to the Derby commentry sometime, then I think you'll realise how good we've got it having Stringer on the team
BrummieFOX Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 He's a pretty poor commentator and a seemingly arrogant, self - indulgent idiot. However, I have big respect for him and his clear passion for providing news, commentary and info about the club we love and that he clearly loves too. He works very hard to ensure we get constant coverage - local radio is something taken for granted but a huge amount of people would suffer if it wasn't available. Despite what he says, he OBVIOUSLY reads these boards and the stick he gets really can't be justified. He gave a great interview on the brilliant FoxBlogger podcast - give it a listen http://foxblogger.wordpress.com/podcast/
Jackirius Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 I tHink he is excellent compared to most others at different clubs. I listen to Norwich sometimes if I am with a Norwich supporting friend and that is abysmal, a long with many other clubs match day commentry which I've flicked over too if BBC RL isn't available.
Lasty Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 He's a character no doubt. Whilst not perfect, I would rather have someone with a bit of life and passion about them than some soulless prat. Although blocking someone from Twitter for a bit of banter makes him look a bit of a pansy. I thought one of the reasons a lot of us love football is due to the banter you get surrounding the sport, I know I do.
MrFox781 Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 One thing i don't like about him is he exaggerates some of our goals. example gallagher vs palace he claimed it to be 40 yards which it was not. also nugent vs bristol he claimes it to be a thirty five yarder which it was not. also nugent vs portsmouth away he said it was a thirty yarder which it was not.
crisp packet Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 Paint a picture of the game? If I am listening to the game I want to know what is happening, with what player ? On what part of the pitch.....? DO NOT USE YOUR OWN OPINION ON PLAYERS TO INFLUENCE OTHERS!!!!!! Other than that he is much better than his predecessors !
Hollism Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 One thing i don't like about him is he exaggerates some of our goals. example gallagher vs palace he claimed it to be 40 yards which it was not. also nugent vs bristol he claimes it to be a thirty five yarder which it was not. also nugent vs portsmouth away he said it was a thirty yarder which it was not. Maybe he just doesn't know how long a yard is? I remember at the palace game him saying "no more entries, that (Gally) goal is the best you'll ever see at the King Power Stadium" which was definitely an exaggeration :L Anyway I think Stringer's great. A lot of people listen to the commentary and then forget about him for anther week, but he works a lot harder than he could get away with. Listening to other local radio commentators, it's hard to imagine them doing as much work as him.
Bluefoxtim Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 You could always set up a rival station and bid for commentary rights.

foxoffderby Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 Stringers ok don't understand the hate we could do a lot worse. Some people need to relax there are more things in life to worry about than the commentator on a radio show.
LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 He is alright, I love his passion for this club but one thing I don't like is when he blocks people on twitter if they correct him, also blocked someone for saying Gallagher was shit I do like the guy abit, least he doesn't get the names wrong like Youngy or does he?
Parafox Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 He would be much better without Alan Young beside him
Ian W LCFC Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 I love Stringer especially when he says ''NOT ON MY NELLY'' for some reason i just like that phrase!
stourbridgefox Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 The criticism of him not describing the game well sometimes is true. Sometimes you have no idea what is happening on the pitch because he is rabbiting with Alan Young about something else. But...no one is perfect and he does bring passion and enthusiasm to Radio Leicester and he is 1000 yards (ok, maybe 600) better than any other commentator we have had. Also, don't we all exaggerate a teensy bit about Leicester sometimes? He is a fan after all.
