wakeyfox01 Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 He's really unreliable to listen to, he'll say someone should have scored and keep going on about it then when you watch it back they had no chance. You generally have no idea what is happening in the match and when he finally talks about something it's usually exagerrated. His agendas against certain players are tedious, questioning everything they do. When you get back in the car after a match and hear him talking about some players performances you end up looking like a lunatic screaming at the radio because of the nonsense he is spouting.

Youngy is worse for that. By a mile. Sounds like he has a personal vendetta sometimes against a few players.
Mission Unlikely Promotion Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 There are many parts of threads on here where the man comes up. Some love him, quite a few hate him. Ok, he is young-ish. He can be an arrogant nobhead. But for me, his style is a breathe of fresh air. When compared to the recent John Barber, he is in a completely different league. At least he is slightly controversial and not afraid to offer an opinion. This is how it should be. Yes, ok his first duty is to deliver unbiased commentary, which in my opinion, he does and does very well. But he also does his best to add to debates on the forum and doesn't just sit on the fence like previous commentators or even the Birch. He may get on people's nerves, but all i would say is we are very lucky to have a commentator so passionate about our club, who isn't a cardboard cut out and is genuinely witty and interesting to listen to. Or we get John "Derby fan" Barberella back. Your choice. Cant disagree with you really
Danny the Fox 95 Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 Used to think he was alright, blocked me from Twitter for a light hearted pisstake about him knowing nothing. willy puller. Exactly what happened to me I said a light hearted joke to him, he says I was very abusive! Needs a sense of humour.
hairy Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 Dont mind him but cannot stand Young. Stringer has enthuiasm which lifts the commentry. Yes sometimes I find myself screaming at the radio as I want to know whats going on on the pitch and not what the bloke infronts bobble hat looks like. I think he has to be very careful on Twitter. He needs to remain in with the club so wont accept player abuse and needs to stay squeeky clean to retain his media position in the city so I am not surprised he blocks people who abuse him and players.
accessory Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 If the abuse is aimed at players then Stringer should just ignore it. If it's aimed at him he has every right to block the sender. But the fanboy who started the thread, and those who agree with him, should consider how many City-related stories have been broken by him in recent times. Most of the time it seems like he is trying to keep up with what's on here and other sites.
Stig the Lawnmower Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 listening to the commentary drives me mad, we miss so much of the action due to their inane banter. BUT, he is a city fan, and he does his best to interview players after the match, and still has the courage to interview Pearson (no love lost though!)
Guest MattP Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 Exactly what happened to me I said a light hearted joke to him, he says I was very abusive! Needs a sense of humour. Yep, typical of a man who has got above his station unfortunately.
harpendenfox Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 I think he's a decent commentator, it's simply that broadcasters these days feel they have to be entertainers too. Savage, for example, is getting a higher and higher profile simply by being opinionated. Alan Green too. It's how it is. I'd prefer just to hear the action described, and some interpretation of why a certain piece of action has taken place from the summariser, but the modern style is to exaggerate, and over-emphasise, and court controversy. Oh for the mild understatement of Barry Davies. What a legend he was. Worthington, 1-0 (pause, let the noise of the crowd tell you all you need to know)
The Guvnor Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 Football commentary would be a sadder place without him I think he's ok

Sods Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 I don't actually mind stringer, just don't understand why they let ****** ring up and stay on the line.
bluesbrothers Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 Whenever we're in R5 (or extra) it's an amazing, refreshing difference You're the first to say that as far as im aware. Every time we make R5L, there's always a barrage of posts on here about the commentary being biased against us. And every time we're on Sky. And every time we're on MotD Live. And every time we get a mention on the Football League Show. I personally like the banter between Stringer and Youngie. Fact is, most of our matches genuinely are dull enough for long enough periods to warrant the aimless discussions on which type of Haribo is best, or who's drank the most Bovril. If they did talk about the game all the time, people would be on here complaining about how dull commentary was! Simple fact is, we should be grateful we even have a local commentary from a Leicester perspective for every game. We're lucky.
Spudulike Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 He's a fan, he's one of us. Good enough for me ...and that's the way I like it, I like it, I like it.
Alexikokopops Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 I like Stringer. He entertains me when listening to the match. That'll do me.
cambridgefox Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 I think he is ok,his job is harder than most think,if i wanted a laugh i would like to get all the knockers to have a go for a match".um err thingys got the ball."
Fox96 Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 He's only another Leicester fan like you and me, much better than what Radio Leicester used to have.
gazfox9 Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 I quite like him. Better than most around. People forget radio commentary is a lot harder than tv commentary as you've got to 'paint the picture' to the audience.
Mack Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 Has anyone else noticed how he calls everyone pal?
cambridgefox Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 Has anyone else noticed how he calls everyone pal? no pal,i mean yes pal
Wherethefoxhat? Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 Leave the guy alone ....what's the bloody matter with you ......get a life ffs !!!!
cambridgefox Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 Leave the guy alone ....what's the bloody matter with you ......get a life ffs !!!! i think most are supporting him, there are a few that jump on the bandwagon of hate, but we could do a lot worse,as i said earlier love to see a few others have a go.
StanSP Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 Has anyone else noticed how he calls everyone pal? Yeah. But nowt wrong with it. Just like a lot of people call others 'mate'.
Mack Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 Yeah. But nowt wrong with it. Just like a lot of people call others 'mate'. You are right, but if he ever resorts to 'bud' or 'buddy' ..........
john doe Posted 3 February 2012 Posted 3 February 2012 I quite like him. Better than most around. People forget radio commentary is a lot harder than tv commentary as you've got to 'paint the picture' to the audience. but its wrong most of the time
