How was your experience of the stadium ?

.. a few teething problems with food, drink and travel, but will be immense when finished inside.

I thought it was a really strange stadium with the Football League covered by each stand. The main stand is Premier League class, the South Stand is Championship, the East Stand is League One and the North Stand is League Two! Bit of a hassle to get there, thought it would be impossible to find a ground harder to access if you're driving but you have one there. I like a ground whereby you can park up, walk to a pub and then to the ground easily.

Thought we deserved a draw and would have had one were it not for indiscipline (again).

Drinkwater has so much quality on the ball, he's willing to take it in tight situations with players close to him and he'll do something positive with it more often than not. Top signing.

I feel sorry for Nugent being in this squad this year. He works so hard yet pairs it with class and ability, it's a shame that he's so often been required to run himself into the ground because someone else has got themself sent off. Would have been nice had that header snuck in.

The only other point I have to make is regarding Mills. How is this guy captain? After another distinctly average performance, the culmination of which is him being thrown up front, the final whistle goes and he's on the edge of the eighteen yard box towards the right hand end of our support. I keep my eye on him. As the game ends he trudges towards the tunnel, says something to the ref in passing and is en route to the dressing room.

It's only when he reaches Pearson who tells him to swivel and go across to the fans that he turns round, walks ten yards, gives a token gesture of thanks and is still the first player off the park. The captain. When I've embarked on an eight hour round trip, stood in the freezing cold and seen us throw away a result in the final minute I expect better.

Take the armband off him, give it to someone who looks like they care, plays like they care because I'm through with his clown.

Why do I find myself scanning through your posts looking for the inevitable Gally dig (EVEN WHEN HE WASN'T PLAYING?!):yawn::rolleyes:

Well our set pieces were better today. Just looked more threatening than with gallaghers . If you went you would agree too. Its not a dig at gally but praise for danns. But as he is now out we can look forward to near post floated corners again.

Hello

been reading your thread about the game at ours.

TBH I thought you were hard done by in a number of areas. Especially Beckfords sending off and also the penalty claim toward the end. I still have no real idea why he went, Dunk made nothing of the incident and the lino flagged way after the tackle. Yes there were a couple of cynical fouls, but I wouldn't read anything into one that forced the injured guy off the pitch, I saw it and it wasn't malicious.

I thought the way you kept posession in the first half was great but lacked a real cutting edge, although there was a point where I thought "we need to get hold of the ball and soon otherwise they are going to pass us into oblivion". That guy Drinkwater is decent.

Obviously the second half was crazy and full of incidents. It could of gone either way and we were lucky it went ours. Once Vicente was on I think we were in control, but then for that last 25 minutes you were almost playing 7 aside.

It wasn't the worst game I've seen this season, the one against Forest was dire :)

As for Brighton players who couldn't improve your side... How about Buckley? or Vicente? I would list others but I'm biased.

Anyway I hope you get home okay what with this awful weather and look forward to seeing you again in the future.

Really rate Buckley, but will he sustain it? Said it to a lot of people I know, we desperately need to replace Lloyd Dyer with an extra wide threat. I have watched BHAFC a handful of times this season as I live near the stadium. He would fit what we need perfectly. If he can sustain it.

I think we are very simular sides (or it looked like it) in the fact that we both like playing the passing game.

What did you make of our support/Mattock reaction?

Having just seen the highlights, the world does appear to have gone mad. Not sure sparrows was a red either.

If that's what football is coming too, might as well make it a no contact sport.

Should have done the sensible thing and got the train !

Funny how away teams are judging the standard of the stands the number of seats in them. On that basis are the corporate boxes are Vauxhall Conference ?

.. and how away stands the championship have padded seats ?

Also dare I say it, we really missed Bamba in this match. We really did. Someone to clean up the midfield. We looked so damn holey through the middle.

Ah, ok. You're right in that it is odd. It doesn't explicitly say that's why he was sent off, just implies that it was, so maybe they're not sure either!

Edit: And I've just seen Sparrow was sent off for a second yellow lol I'm a PAP at heart, I had no idea what was going on.

It wasn't a second yellow! Someone lied. At least I'm not going totally crazy.

No problems with food or drink before the game. They did run out of Bovril at half time though! I did like the guest ale touch though, and the screens with pictures from our season on it.

Seen Football League Show. Incorrect with Beckford sending off. I ran after ref+asked "he was sent off for kicking out at another player"

Buckley? No idea, but he's only 21 and has been brilliant since coming back from injury. I am sure he will have a dip in form at some point. We have three young wingers, Buckley, Noone and Lua lua. All three have great futures ahead of them

Similar? Yes except that you're better at passing than us. We're still learning our trade at this level and Gus is determined that we establish ourselves as a patient passing side.

Well it's obvious you don't like Mattock very much ;)

I've read about some of his past activities and so "get" the chants........ is that why you guys hate him so much (the brawl in a club with some girls)? Looks a useful player, decent first touch and willing to get forward. No idea about his attitude though.

Your support generally? Loud(ish) and a great turnout. The "shit refs"chant was funny. Didn't hear much else apart from you repeating Leicester a lot until Mattock turned up and then you went to town on him.

That St Pauli chant sucks.... Unfortunately Palace do that one a lot better (although it pains me to say it).

re: post #126 in this thread. The stadiums not finished yet........

Season over as far as I'm concerned.

Unless a serious change in luck happens, which we all know it won't, then we'll get nothing.

Who wants to sit down at away matches? ;)

Just spoke to my friend who works for the BBC up by me in Manchester and he confirmed that the incident was caught on camera, and that the decision was wrong. He has seen the video! And claims it was not a red card offence, in fact he couldn't see where the officials got the idea he lashed out from. Serious lack of communication. The officiating in this country is starting to become a serious issue.

We did get the train! My point was that I would prefer a ground whereby I can get close to the stadium in the car. A well-located stadium should be accessible via all modes of transport although I guess you're just happy to have a stadium?!

And the point about the stands is simply to say that they seem rather oddly out of proportion. My personal preference is stands in proportion with each other, not one giant and three differently sized smaller ones. Reminded me of how O'Neill used to say he walked potential signings out of the tunnel backwards, maybe Poyet does the same!

"although I guess you're just happy to have a stadium".. bit more than that - it's a fantastic stadium, which will be even better when the new seats and tiers go in in the summer. The difficult place they had to build it has made it admittedly a bit unbalanced and quirky. But I'd rather have than an identikit bowl. My fear was somewhere like Southampton or Reading.

It has clearly identifiable stands, but built in a modern way.

Your views are a bit out of date with current thinking I'm afraid, sustainable transport etc.. etc... Apparently our new place is given those thinking about building a new one a bit of grief with the authorities because of the percentage of fans reaching it by public transport. It's become a case of - if Brighton can do that, so can you....

Saw the highlights and I have to say I don't think Sparrow's was a red card at all. They both slid in (one footed and not over the top) and Marshall just got their first. It was a tough tackle and someone was likely to get hurt but that's football, I don't really know what else Sparrow could have done other than pussy out of the challenge.

Similarly the sending off in the Birmingham-Southampton game was a complete joke. The first yellow card was a perfect slide tackle where he won the ball, the second was a little push. Then there's the Beckford one which appears to be a complete fvck up. Players are getting sent off for nothing every week now. Specifically the slide tackling thing is ridiculous, the referees have clearly been told to clamp down on it and have been really over the top, so to speak. Any tackle that is remotely forceful is being punished with a yellow card or worse. I think they generally do react to what the crowd is telling them to do and they get carried away with the pace of the game. Referees do not seem to be able to differentiate between hard, commited tackles and dangerous ones. Pundits don't help either, they seem to want to see red for everything as well.

I agree completely... Having watched MOTD and the Football League Show I can't remember as many sendings off in a day as there were yesterday.

The powers that be are making the game almost non contact.

RESPECT? Fook off...

I thought the stadium was brilliant - the best modern one I've been to.

Some people are taking the piss out of the uneven stands but to be honest that was my favorite feature. It gives it a proper unique feel

I had an absolute c*nt next to me.

If you were sat next to an absolute cvnt it might have been me. If they were saying that stuff then it wasn't me.

We seem to disagree about Marshall and Pearson yesterday but agree about everything else which is weird given that everything I post is "complete bollocks". Most others seem to agree on Marshall. Just because he's knew there's no need to sugar-coat it - had that been Gallagher he would have got loads of stick.

I'm sure he'll be a good signing, Walsh/Pearson's record with young English players would suggest as much, but I would respectfully suggest that you're giving Marshall too much credit for an ineffective performance in admittedly trying circumstances.

I thought the game fairly shit. Atmosphere from Brighton was shocking (same as ours at home games). our supporters were great. the ref was a tosser. some decisions from nigel confused me. and on the stadium the main stand looked amazing but the rest was weird and they could have fitted in more seats in the corners. overall shit day.
