SOCCERROO FOX Posted 10 February 2012 Posted 10 February 2012 I can see my old seat in that photo. Great times. Real supporters stand at games!

Foxy oz Posted 10 February 2012 Posted 10 February 2012 Ozleicester do you like NIB Stadium I think it was better at the old Perth Oval ?
dobbylcfc Posted 10 February 2012 Posted 10 February 2012 Its time we got past the Filbo days, brilliant as they were (at times), they are consigned to history and in all honesty they werent ALL great days, there is a fair proportion of "when i was a lad, everyfing was better" in all the Filbo comments. Fans make atmosphere, and stadiums, yes some encouage and enhance what the fans create. BUT.... If you are not enjoying the experience... its up to YOU to change it! Yes, losing leaves you gutted, but we havent lost until the final whistle blows, until that time, we are in with a chance and you can sit quietly in your seat and moan about how good things were and how sh*t they are now... or you can enjoy, support, stand, scream, sing. If Freemans Wharf (which really does seem the best name) is to become the home of the great memories of todays young fans... its because YOU make it so! Dont worry about what the family stand is doing. dont worry about the corporate boxes. dont worry about the kop if you're in L1, or L1 if you're in the cop. Make your own atmosphere!.......... if you dont... when you are nearly fifty years old... you wont be able to piss off all the 20 years olds, by telling how much better things were in my day! Well said that man 😉 Its time we got past the Filbo days, brilliant as they were (at times), they are consigned to history and in all honesty they werent ALL great days, there is a fair proportion of "when i was a lad, everyfing was better" in all the Filbo comments. Jace Posted 10 February 2012 Posted 10 February 2012 What about making a website that can be a collection of all pictures and videos of FIlbert St? When you google Filbert St there isnt a website or a database of pics anywhere? If I make a cheap easy to run website would anyone have anything decent to submit or upload to it or is it a pointless idea?
Sooper Steve's shin Posted 10 February 2012 Posted 10 February 2012 Ridiculous sentimentality on this thread. If we were still there today, imagine the moaning about the state of our ground. Plus we may have some good memories, but I bet you all have some shite ones as well. It was probably OK in its day, but pretty embarrassing by the end when we had TV games and the ball got kicked over the top of the East stand. That's not the modern professional game and it's blatantly not better.

Corky Posted 10 February 2012 Posted 10 February 2012 We had to move to progress really. In an ideal world we'd have redeveloped but that wasn't possible. Just a shame that the old place got such a disgraceful last season.
Guest Col city fan Posted 10 February 2012 Posted 10 February 2012 Looks like a Non-League ground in this picture. No wonder we moved. Beg pardon!! Go and wash yet mouth out son!!
Mission Unlikely Promotion Posted 10 February 2012 Posted 10 February 2012 Exactly what I was thinking. I miss Filbert Street. This
Spudulike Posted 10 February 2012 Author Posted 10 February 2012 Give me Filbert Street over the Lego stadium we have now any day of the week. Filbert Street of the sixties (my Dad tells me) and early seventies lost most of it's character with the building of the Carling Stand and seating of the Kop and Pop Side. It was never the same and, to be honest, made it easier to leave. Filbo was a bit sad by the end and further development would have left us with three more Carling Stands. Would we've wanted that ?? I wouldn't. Oddly, we haven't yet got that emotional bond with Freemens Wharf that others seem to have done with their new stadiums (I'm thinking Stoke and Swansea) and we don't show pride in our place. However, it's certainly more substantial and far less 'Lego' then Filbo ever was. ps. Don't ever remember a full England international or Brazil playing at Filbert Street.
Lcfclee Posted 10 February 2012 Posted 10 February 2012 Looks like a Non-League ground in this picture. No wonder we moved. It was never that. It was paradise on many Saturday nights just some of the memories make me take stock the very first premier home game against newcastle the 2-1 win over arsenal the same year iwans hattrick against derby and marshall doing the same and oh that Walsh goal against arsenal in THAT game

I think that's because we've been shit since we've been in it. Swansea and Stoke are now punching above their weight, it's easy to love a stadium when things are going well on the pitch. What do we have to remember from the last 10 years? More poor seasons than good ones, it's been the worst period in our history in truth. When we have another promotion season and have a decent Premier League season it won't seem so bad. After all the fans make our club what it is, they just need something to shout about. Anyway it's time to stop whinging and blaming everything else, we are the ones who have to make the atmosphere, it's no good just giving up on it because it aint Filbo.
melrose Posted 11 February 2012 Posted 11 February 2012     You don't sound like the type of fellow that has been there on a full house or on a big game under the lights, If so you missed out big time!

Criggers Posted 11 February 2012 Posted 11 February 2012 "when I were a lad, things were much better..." Get over it now folks come on. The KP is a much better facility than we could have had at Filbert Street. The other thing is, if the team hadn't been so mediocre in the last 10 years then we wouldn't be moaning about the stadium. It just happens to be that we've been pretty shit for the majority of the time that we've been in this stadium.
davieG Posted 11 February 2012 Posted 11 February 2012 What about making a website that can be a collection of all pictures and videos of FIlbert St? When you google Filbert St there isnt a website or a database of pics anywhere? If I make a cheap easy to run website would anyone have anything decent to submit or upload to it or is it a pointless idea? Not a website but plenty of pictures and reminiscing - http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/45200-filbert-street-the-legendary-home-of-leicester-city-football-club/
davieG Posted 11 February 2012 Posted 11 February 2012 I'm pretty sure if the O'Neill era had occurred at Freemans Wharf or similar and there's no reason why it couldn't have it would be loved not only that he may have been persuaded to stay longer. Unfortunately Freemans Wharf is mostly associated with defeat, poor displays, plenty of empty seats and our lowest ever finishing position, that said as a piece of stadium architecture it's bland and the main admin block looks like a 70's office block with little or no character apart from the glass badge.
Master Fox Posted 11 February 2012 Posted 11 February 2012 The first and second season we had down at Filbert way was fantastic. Filbo was great because we left on a high and had a lot of recent good memories. But really, Filbert Street was a shit hole and looked like a non league ground.
Webbo Posted 11 February 2012 Posted 11 February 2012 Queueing up for 10 minutes to go for a piss, craning your neck round a post to see certain areas of the pitch, rain dripping down your back at times? People are looking back with rose tinted specs. Also it wasn't financially sustainable, the maximum capacity at Filbert Street was 21k we've never averaged less than that a season at the KP.

Trust me it is not representative of the worst period in our history - go and look up the name Frank Mclintock!
ThurmastonFox Posted 11 February 2012 Posted 11 February 2012 Ahh, the time Scholes landed a shot in the burger bar behind the goal as we beat them in the League Cup...the time a security guy standing in the Carling Stand as it was being built got hit in the nuts by a clearance. These things just don't happen at modern stadia...
Cropwellfox Posted 11 February 2012 Posted 11 February 2012 Just thinking - if we don't win today that will be three calendar months during a season without a home league win. Would that be our worst run since leaving filbo?
body102 Posted 11 February 2012 Posted 11 February 2012 You don't sound like the type of fellow that has been there on a full house or on a big game under the lights, If so you missed out big time! those emoticons were because i miss the place big time , i have been going city for 36years so i have seen filbo full and under the lights , thats why i miss the place so much . I wish they would have built a rectangular ground instead of a bowl . The atmosphere in all bowl shaped grounds is lacking . The whole atmosphere at Filbo was better mainly because the underside of the decker made the sound from the kop echo out
