Leicester City are a bigger club than Norwich, says Richie Wellens

Leicester City may be cast as the underdogs when they face Premier League Norwich City today in the FA Cup fifth round (3.0).

But midfielder Richie Wellens says City are the bigger club and they are expecting to reach the quarter-finals.

The Canaries have risen from League One to the top flight in consecutive seasons, and are currently eighth in the Premier League, but Wellens said City are not travelling to Carrow Road for just a day out.

"I think a lot of times, when you have a lower-league side visiting a higher-league side, you can just go there and enjoy it, because it is a good day-out for our fans," said Wellens. "But for a club the size of ours, and we are probably a bigger club than Norwich, no disrespect, it is not like that.

"We are going there to win the game and get to the next round.

"If we had played away at a Manchester United or Arsenal, we would have gone there and tried our best, but it would be a good day out for the fans and, if we lost, that would be it.

"But if we lose this we will be disappointed. We expect to go to Norwich and beat them."

However, to be successful, Wellens believes City must learn to cope with target-men centre-forwards, and warned of the threat posed by Norwich strikers Grant Holt and Steve Morison.

"For me, every time we play against a target-man, we struggle," said Wellens. "That has stuck out for me.

"Against Barnsley it was Andy Gray, who scored two, against Millwall it was Darius Henderson who scored a hat-trick, and the other night at Watford Chris Iwelumo caused us a load of problems.

"We have to adapt better when the opposition go long, we have to get bodies around the target-man or win the header.

"Holt is clever and he has made a great career for himself.

"They have Morison as well, and they are similar players who work hard and work the channels.

"We have to enjoy the physical challenge that is coming our way."

No problem with with him saying he thinks we're a bigger club and we expect to beat them, that's mind games. If Kasper or Nugent was saying that I'm sure people would be giving him one of these  for talking us up.

I'm not sure what his angle is with the 'target-man' thing though, he's juts telling them what our weaknesses are and criticising our defence!

Good lad

he hasn't played because pelts was playing well, he is young and has his flaws which unfortunately are being exploited at present. Paintsil is not a poor player, you don't lead Ghana and play the football he has been if you are poor. I don't think he played badly for us when he played.

I hope we're not singing Iwan is a Welshman today.

Former Norwich forward Iwan Roberts has been speaking about the brilliant season his former club have been enjoying in the Premier League, whilst also talking up their chances in the FA Cup.

The
Canaries
lie 8th in the table despite being one of the relegation favourites in the summer. Norwich’s young squad has shown no fear in the Premier League, and their attacking play has been scintillating at times this season.

“They’ve been outstanding, what a season”, said Roberts. “The secret is they go into every game trying to win it, they’re not defensive at all, they’re a very attacking side, and they’ve scored plenty of goals.”

Canaries Boss
Paul Lambert
also gets Roberts’ plaudits: “The manager is such a positive man. He’ll try and win every game that he goes into.”

“He’s brought players in who are hungry, young, and British, and I think they’ve got a point to prove.”

“I can’t see why they can’t go to the semi final, and maybe the final, with the season they’ve had in the Premier League”.

Even if he is back I very much doubt he will replace the captain,...like it or not.

Hoping for a decent performance today and hopefully a little upset,...COYB :scarf:

Just good guesswork...

Fair enough, dropping Mills for Morgan is a good move by NP he will deal with the ariel threat that Holt and Morrison pose, dropping Konchesky for Kennedy is a strange one but that might be due to give the Konch a rest which is fair enough. The midfield is what I expected. Come on City lets thrash these Norfolk farmers who are ploughing the grounds for some spuds.

You can stick your negativity up your arse.

Yeah dan, stop being realistic and expressing an opinion, do what the majority do and give self deluded predictions based purely on bias.
