99% of benefit claimers are robbing, lying scumbags

If the OP believes everything he sees on TV and takes everything as gospel, the circle of everlasting dumbness will continue to grow.

Besides, knowing how to count and avoiding generalizations would be a start, too.

EDIT: I ****ing love cheesecake.

99%? Rubbish.

However, there is a high percentage who are not genuine. I know some, and they make me sick. They have no conscience about stealing money from the working man's pocket.

The majority are genuine, and my heart goes out to them.

And there lies the problem - sorting the genuine claimants from the pretenders.

I love some of the "benefit" sums mentioned. None quoted seem to include things like:- stolen electric, groceries, clothing and even televisions from Tesco, several forms of begging, varying degrees of prostitution and so on.

Nor is it that their benefits aren't enough to live on. They'd be enough to live on if it weren't for the baccy, the drugs, the Saturday nights out, the paying back of fines, the paying off of electric or gas debts, the extortionate interest paid to moneylenders, insisting that son Johnnie wears designer trainers the same as other kids at school and the vanity of buying Mothers Day photos from professional photographers charging £100 and considerably more for framed family portraits the state doesn't cover.

The attitude prevails that the nation (or the nation's workers) owe them a respectable living whether they, or their often non-contributary partners, make a contribution or not. To so many of them it's the system against themselves and if they end up in prison again, so what?

There's no chance of them getting a job anyway with criminal record checks, no driving licence, no qualifications and no experience, plus they're handicapped by substance dependency, various degrees of mental illness, a history of bad time-keeping and unreliable attendance.

Many are also accomplished and convincing liars (they consider it a vital tool for survival) so whatever they say is not worth the breath it's delivered with but the problem is, who can judge the needy from the manipulative, the genuine struggler from the serial cheat?

Cos there's a lot at stake if you're wrong with so many claimants so desperate, so short and so stilled by a permanent feeling of helplessness that prison or suicide would be a welcome relief. Others don't want to change cos a combination of basic benefits plus the proceeds of crime - particularly burglary, petty theft, prostitution and drug pushing - make for a better living than any 9-5 life they might conceivably lead.

It is easy for working folk to lack any sympathy for what they see as serial idlers and they may have a point. But often there are serious factors they're not aware of - factors which would impact on any of us in the same circumstances, most particularly mental illness and frailty.

And that's the problem with making judgements. We so rarely know the full facts. And while some may say "there's no excuses" the reality is, there probably are. Or if not excuses, compelling reasons for people's inadequacy.

If you've got a job and a partner...and if you're fit, well and cleared as suitable for work it's damned hard to accept that others aren't be as determined, willing and capable of working as you are.

But that's so often the reality. The people might seem like potentially "normal" workers but they're not. They're full of handicaps and hang-ups. And to change their mentality takes time, love, commitment plus infinite patience and motivation, And, even then, chances are you'll be disappointed which shows just how firmly people are trapped in the dungeons of their despair..

These skanks on benefit are quite heartless.

If they keep defrauding the system how will the country be able to afford a cut to the 50p rate of tax ?

Edit: You can't beat a good pannacotta

I really wanted to make fun of the 'varying degrees of prostitution' line :D - but was struck by a tone of compassion I've never noticed from you before, Tony.

Nice one.

Ice creams an accompaniment. If you're having ice cream as your main dessert you need to take a long hard look at yourself. While we're on the subject, anyone who's choosing the cheese board over the dessert menu needs to be taken out back to the bins and put out of their misery.

Cheese = Brilliant

Cheese instead of dessert = What the f**k is this sh*t.

Now Baked Alaska on the other hand.
