KidKunny Posted 3 April 2012 Posted 3 April 2012 It is down to the manager at the end of the day not the fans imo he is worth keeping as he scores goals is he better than Howard you betcha, better than Waghorn yes he is, I have my doubts that he can work with Nugent although their partnership in the 4-4-2 formation was looking quite promising. Yeah I totally agree, JB is the man for us We will get the fickle fans when Beckford scores and wins the game he's a hero, but then when we lose he's a villain, no point even arguing with them.

Hmmm 8 in 33 in the league is a piss poor return, if he is "the man for us" then he's got 6 games to show it, NFP is already trying to bundle him out of the door.
LCFC FOX Posted 3 April 2012 Posted 3 April 2012 I really hope Beckford plays again and bags a shit load of goals to make you haters happy. Hes a good player and he only went against Pearson on 1 incident thinking he was doing the right thing helping the team if the ball got cleared or they countered. Also did any one see him holding his back like 2 minuets before when he pulled out of running for the ball? Maybe his back was hurting and was struggling? I'm not saying he is but we don't know the story.

NP doesn't like him, end of. So even if he does play well then so what, NP will get rid of him. Big mistake IMO Also NP has awful man-management skills, so him to talk to JB is not gonna work simple as Beckford is not his type of player however I'll keep the faith with JB hoping he will stay.

How do you know he doesn't like him? NP has awful man-management? Maybe it's the players in question have an awful attitude. dont get rid of beckford do this ................ Most over used picture/saying in recent times.
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 3 April 2012 Posted 3 April 2012 Personally I don't think the problem was him being back on the half way line. He was covering Morgan that was playing centre forward. If we were just lumping the ball into the box from a free kick, I doesn't matter if you a centre forward of centre half, all you trying to do is get a toe or a knee on it and guide it goal wards. And I'd prefer Beckford's pace protecting us on the break than Morgan. How many players did Peterborough leave up does anyone remember? I wonder if Nugent had done the same, would people be kicking off like this?
whoareyaaa Posted 3 April 2012 Posted 3 April 2012 Didnt we have a Beckford thread that went on 20+ pages already ? some people need to get a life instead of moaning about a player all the time.

ithuriel Posted 3 April 2012 Posted 3 April 2012 Keep seeing these views that Beckford is a top class player by some. I've been watching city for a few decades now, seen them in the top flight when they were good and my opinion is that Beckford is not a top class player. He is useless in the air, not the best positional awareness and has average ball control. The only thing he does have is pace and a hefty shot on him but it spoke volumes when Everton wanted to get rid that no one else from the top flight came in for him even though he dragged it out to the very last in signing that evening. Pearson has got a lot out of Beckford, look what he did or more to the point did not do when Sven was trying to get him scoring. Nugent thus far has proven to be of far more value for me, brought in on a free and we knew he was only going to be a roughly 15 goal a season striker. That is my opinion anyway ,
Happy Fox Posted 3 April 2012 Posted 3 April 2012 Does anyone think Waghorn would be up to scratch next season?
Babylon Posted 3 April 2012 Posted 3 April 2012 Does anyone think Waghorn would be up to scratch next season? Well he was useful before Sousa and Sven managed him, so there is a chance he might get that back with Pearson. Lets face it I would think most of us would rather have Waghorn on the bench rather than Howard.

I'm not saying he is but we don't know the story. "Bagging a load of goals" in meaningless games changes nothing. He needed to score that tap in on Saturday, to score against Forest at home .... He needed to score goals when it matters , when the pressure was on. He has scored some good goals but his return, in the league, has been very poor for a "Top class" player playing in the second level of English competition. And I don't want to hear that he hasn't been given service, he's had plenty of service and if he wasn't happy he should have made that clear during the weekly training sessions. Disappointing but if we can't any better player in the off-season we obviously need to keep him, hopefully we can.

Rubbish! I'd be interested to know what makes you think this. Beckford strikes me as one of the most difficult to manage players we've had for a long time. The fact we have another in Matt Mills and maybe even one or two more in the current squad simply indicates Sven's incompetent research or lack of knowledge when it comes to signing players. Despite this, NP has displayed his patience and determination to get him to play much better than we'd seen before, as he also has done with other players such as Danns and St. Ledger (not saying these two are difficult to manage, just that they've played a lot better under NP than Sven). I think NP has done his best to get the best out of Beckford, but his patience must be wearing thin by now. From the lazy, uninterested Beckford we saw under Sven, we started to see a more hard-working, motivated player at times under NP, but we still have to put up with the old version too often. Even with the best man-management skills in the world, trying to work with certain people will simply be too difficult to bother with. I know Beckford can be a good player when he wants to be, but the times he does want to play well are too few and far between. I'd argue it would almost certainly be a mistake to keep faith with him, or even hope he improves, after what we've seen of him this whole season, and that trying to get a decent fee and his rumoured £35,000 off the wage bill to reinvest in hungry players would be the sensible option. If we're going to keep players here on that sort of money, then we really should expect much more than what we've seen from them. It is as simple as that.

Yeah I guess I was wrong to make that statement, but IMO I think Beckford should stay NP needs to work him and his 'issues' for next season, he has got the ability to become top goal scorer next season and be our most valuable player. So hopefully NP gives him a nudge and just say your the best striker in this league, which he's not far off if his work rate increases IMO. Although yes it's not as easy as that, but it can be...
seenitall Posted 3 April 2012 Posted 3 April 2012 Does anyone think Waghorn would be up to scratch next season? As a striker or a running around headless chicken who has rarely scored and skies most shots. The former NO the latter YES
Guest ttfn Posted 3 April 2012 Posted 3 April 2012 Anyone saying that Beckford was trying to do right by the team by not getting in the box needs to get real. Forget the rights and wrongs of it; he threw a wobbly - that much was plain to see for anyone at the game.

seenitall Posted 3 April 2012 Posted 3 April 2012 Frustration because he wants the team to do well and he thinks his manager is incompetent = passhun

The former NO the latter YES NP rates him, he was useful during his first spell with us, okay evidently he has been shit in the Sousa and Sven reign, but on the bench he is a far better sight than Howard, unless we buy a quality replacement on the bench we are stuck with the likes of Howard.
