Guest Col city fan Posted 1 April 2012 Posted 1 April 2012 Fooking Hell! Soooo many posts and so much vitriol. Basically Becks has been a flop. He's had some better games but his overall contribution to the squad this season has been poor. The question still remains and no one really ever answers it: Do you build a team around one striker such that you can play directly to his strengths, or do you cut your losses and bring in a striker with a better all round game to fit him into a system? I get the feeling Nige will go for the latter. So would I... If Becks was SO good that it would be worth designing a team and a formation around him then I'd do it. But he's not.

Guest Col city fan Posted 1 April 2012 Posted 1 April 2012 Or play him in 4-4-2, where he's been fine..... You make my point for me Charl.. He's been ok playing in one formation. Can you base our future success on being this one dimensional? What about when the formation has to be changed for whatever reason? I'm only putting it out there because this seeming lack of ability of a player to play in more than one way is a worry.
Leicester_Loyal Posted 1 April 2012 Posted 1 April 2012 Can see him leaving along with Mills this summer now. However, if he stays then I hope he improves next season. Hes been better recently, but hes still been great. If he can only play in a 442 formation, then we need to play Nugent or Schlupp there and leave Beckford out.
cc_star Posted 1 April 2012 Posted 1 April 2012 Or play him in 4-4-2, where he's been fine..... Our midfield had started working well together, to probably the best level we've had all season, but Wellens picked up an injury & Danns recklessly got himself banned for 4 massive matches. We've had to patch together a midfield, if the chain of events hadn't happened simultaneously we probably would be playing 442 I don't think NP changed his preferred formation for the sake of it, needs must and all that. Although for such a talent I'd have expected him to be a bit more flexible than only being able to perform if things are tweaked perfectly to his liking goldilocks style
unreachable Posted 1 April 2012 Posted 1 April 2012 I think as fans we should be extremely grateful when a player decides he feels like putting in some effort - players have such a difficult life and can't be expected to bust a gut when they only have to play football for about 3 hours a week max. Give JB a break when he wants a rest on a matchday - he is not strong enough to battle or challenge for a ball and needs to be treated with kid gloves by the manager. He lacks so much confidence that he needs to be treated like a princess - it's not his fault - he's just not suited to professional football.
ScouseFox Posted 1 April 2012 Posted 1 April 2012 By the way, Emile Sinclair is gash. That's the most important point of this thread.
brockmyster Posted 1 April 2012 Posted 1 April 2012 Im still not really sure what went on with him yesterday was it all to do with him not going up for last attack?
blueredswed Posted 1 April 2012 Posted 1 April 2012 One question What have NP say to him? You shall play here and..... anyone knew? Perhaps Np don´t use him on his right place! Some game he have been fantastic so please let him play there he is best!
blueharmie Posted 1 April 2012 Posted 1 April 2012 Did anyone in here go yesterday and see him play? He was tragic. Pearson will get rid in the summer. Absolute shit of a player and his attitude stinks. Go play gangsters with ur homies. Flop.

Absolute shit of a player and his attitude stinks. Go play gangsters with ur homies. Flop. Are you sitting on the fence about Beckford then buddy? I agree though, generally he has been better lately but like Col city fan states we need a better all round forwards not just a one trick pony type player
THEFATBASTARD Posted 1 April 2012 Posted 1 April 2012 beckford should leave skid marks on the dressing room floor...never really wanted to be here.
Guest ttfn Posted 1 April 2012 Posted 1 April 2012 Good to see the usual excuses out for another poor display from Beckford yesterday. 1) Play to his strengths? Why should we? What does it say about a striker that half the board are salivating over that his only asset is his ability to get in behind defences and finish? It's such a low percentage tactic at the best of times. If you can't play in a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 then tough. Adapt or die. 4-3-3 did for Fryatt, so why shouldn't it do for Beckford if he can't adapt? 2) He's a natural goalscorer A natural goalscorer puts that chance at the back post every single time. Not 99 times out of 100. Every single time. People are talking as if he was in some real danger of getting hurt. It wasn't even necessarily a header, it was low enough for him to volley if he wanted. 3) He'd just tracked back 90 yards That was really impressive actually, and showed a surprising level of commitment. But if there are 20 seconds left, you are the club's "star" (cough) centre-forward and have failed to make any impression in the game so far, wouldn't you be desperate to get in the box and try to get something for yourself and your team-mates? Wouldn't the professional thing to do be to get in the box and try to snaffle any chance that came his way rather than showing a complete disregard for your captain and manager's instructions? That Drinkwater's free kick was reprehensibly awful is irrelevant; what the fvck was Beckford playing at? 4) Everybody hates Beckford This seems to be the calling card of cambridgefox and others at the moment. If you go back a week to the "Beckford" thread you'd find any criticism of Beckford being rounded on by all and sundry. When he signed, there was near universal excitement. The reason some have gone off him is clear to see. He's not as good as most on here thought. The level of leeway he's being given for yesterday (and not just the incident at the end which arguably has a mitigating circumstance) is astonishing, particularly when you consider that this was the latest in a long line of awful performances. In the space of a season, Beckford has managed to put in probably 4 of the worst individual performances I've seen from City centre-forwards over the years (West Ham, Reading and Peterborough away, Milwall at home) as well as countless other sub-par displays. I actually haven't seen him have a particularly good game for City this season in the 22 matches I've been to (although I accept that he may have played well in some I haven't been to - clearly scoring twice against Birmingham and Blackpool he must have been doing something right, and I understand he was good at home to Middlesbrough). Sure he played quite well against Coventry, Hull, Swindon and Brighton at home, but none of them were really good performances. He has been substituted 3 times at half-time this season. Three times. I don't think any other City player has ever been subbed three times at the break in their whole career, let alone a season. But yeah he's "class" so we'll give him a free ride. Quite what evidence his "class" is based on still remains to be seen.
Kitchandro Posted 1 April 2012 Posted 1 April 2012 Before his insolence yesterday I didn't think he played that badly. He was absent for large parts but he wasn't hopeless. Peltier and Dyer were much worse and Nugent was non-existant. If he did what he allegedly did though you cannot defend him. Those who are excusing his behaviour on this thread are blatantly the dregs of this forum who will do anything to make out Pearson is the bad guy. I couldn't care less if he played him in goal, if the manager tells you to do something you fvcking do it.
21st Century Fox Posted 1 April 2012 Posted 1 April 2012 Did you make the sign for this thread or do you use it a lot? sorry if I started this thread about something that happened today at a Leicester game. Next time perhaps I will start a thread about knitting ! I'm sure you had good intentions with the thread, but it's basically become one of a thousand other 'Beckford Out' threads by any other name, with the usual suspects, repeating the usual crap. So in hindsight that Knitting thread would've been far more constructive. It's ok mate he does tend to post that when he has nothing gainful to say ( which is often ) Weird, I've never posted it before Flowwolf. I did find your comment gainful and insightful though.
RonnieTodger Posted 1 April 2012 Posted 1 April 2012 He did quite well at Everton scoring wise but Moyes was more than happy to sell him..which says something. Says that Bill Kenwright had no money in the bank until Arteta left. They sold Yakubu for peanuts and look how well he's done.

Well as Ive said before this is a football board. Its like the TV , if you dont like the show then turn it off.

L4EV Posted 1 April 2012 Posted 1 April 2012 I'm sure he'll score 2 in his next game and then he'll be Messi's clone again on here
Simmo86 Posted 1 April 2012 Posted 1 April 2012 I'm sure he'll score 2 in his next game and then he'll be Messi's clone again on here Yup Pearson will be god after we beat Donny too!
Bert Posted 1 April 2012 Posted 1 April 2012 It was a direct free kick. We were blatantly going to shoot. If the ball comes out from the walk and they break then we're outnumbered.
5waller5 Posted 1 April 2012 Posted 1 April 2012 It was a direct free kick. We were blatantly going to shoot. If the ball comes out from the walk and they break then we're outnumbered. We're also 1-0 down in the last minute .... there's no excuse for not being in the box.
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 1 April 2012 Posted 1 April 2012 This seems to have been blown out of all proportion by two sides of people. Firstly we have the Beckford haters who can not wait to jump down on everything the guy does. They know who they are. The second lot are anti Pearson so blame him. Shit happens in football sometimes. I have posted before that Beckfords record in 2012 is second to none in the squad. Not only has he scored plenty but he has had hands in goals through making intelligent off the ball runs to setting up players. If Pearson wants rid over this then I would question his overall ability to manage our club. No more than a little bit of frustrated hadbags from all concerned.
Guest Col city fan Posted 1 April 2012 Posted 1 April 2012 It was a direct free kick. We were blatantly going to shoot. If the ball comes out from the walk and they break then we're outnumbered. So you are suggesting that Beckford didn't get forward because he was concerned that they may break from OUR free kick and score a second goal. When we were already one down. You really do talk some old cock and bull Bert... lol

When we were already one down. You really do talk some old cock and bull Bert... lol I'm just putting out an alternative view. Personally he should've been in the box, but he wasn't. Drinkwater wasted the free kick with a shit shot and beckford would've made no difference being in the box. Maybe I do talk cock and bull, but I'm free to say what I want as you are when you post the tripe you do.
