Frost Posted 8 January 2013 Posted 8 January 2013 Finding this game a lot harder than the last, mainly due to how difficult it is to sign players. I was in charge of Schalke & Bayern for about 8 years (combined). Struggled to bring in any quality players because the division dropped to fifth in the overall league rankings - literally no-one wanted to join that was 'class'. Won quite a few domestic titles but not quite sure why I'm struggling so much. Now at Marseille trying to topple Paris Saint-Germain's dominance. They have an absolutely sensational team. Previously took Norway to a World Cup and got thumped. Now taking Denmark to the 2026 World Cup.
Frost Posted 8 January 2013 Posted 8 January 2013 ^^ Saying that I genuinely find much easier to start as a smaller club. Started as Heidenheim (German Third Div) - back to back promotions, followed by a 7th placed finish in the Bundesliga - won the German Cup, then the Europa League the next season. Only got a budget of £1m and 150k on wages as well. Strange.
Finnegan Posted 8 January 2013 Posted 8 January 2013 Nobody's ever claimed that football manager was especially difficult. It's just a casual management sim. Big whoop.
ADK Posted 8 January 2013 Posted 8 January 2013 Have to say i can't really get excited about this, wish i didn't buy it.
indierich06 Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 No you all want to believe that you are super managers and talent spotters. How can you be happy with a "simulation" game where the impossible happens so easily. There has never been a team that has won all 5 trophies in the same season and yet you can do that very quickly with a team that can't get into the Prem. Sure you want to be able to win the prem with a team like Stevenage, eventually, if you are a great player of the game. To me it just shows how little a challenge the game is, so I won't bother buying and playing it. Good for you.
indierich06 Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 I got by as always through negotiating the transfer market like a boss. I downloaded a 'wonderkids' short list from FM Scout (I think) and filtered it for the first two seasons into who were realistic signings. Kept picking them up for nowt and selling them on at a nice profit if they weren't getting games. Buying in players on frees with added value (either to the team or for resale) such as Courtois (now worth £35m), Vertonghen (now worth £22m), Lenny Nangis (now worth £47.5m), Tagliafico (sold for £30m) Nasri (sold for £5m). Tagliafico was replaced by Alan Ward for £9m who was just as good (I also had a regen at left back to fill in). The remaining profit from the sale bought in Adam Maher (£13m) and most of the first choice Brazilian right winger a regen called Renan (£10m 4* CA/5* PA). I'll post the highlights of my transfer dealings when I get in later. So you didn't really negotiate the transfer market like a boss, you just downloaded a list of amazing players to buy on the cheap. Surely most of the fun of Football Manager is finding these players yourself? The thing I love most about it is finding amazing regens to make my team world class. The best game I ever had was last year's version with bury, spent ages building them up and getting through the leagues and it took me about 6 seasons to get to the Premier League, then I was relegated and got promoted again before finding some of the best regens I've ever seen. After that I managed cup success, eventually I got into Europe and it all culminated with me winning the Premier League and Champions League in about 2021. Now that was a proper game.

Actually it was a list of players who were wonderkids in previous versions with the propensity to be so in this game. You have to be able to then sign these players. As I've mentioned before - I have no qualms about cutting corners on this game if it saves me time twatting about to get to the good bits of the game, That's why I love FMC so much. I can set it up with my preferred tactic, my shortlists and then all I need to do is sign the staff and players and win the games. And regens are completely different to the players that started the game as you HAVE to find them yourself. As I'm in 2019 already my team is half full of regens that I've found myself.

I ****ing love a regen. I had a kid come through my academy at Chelsea and become the best english striker of all time in last year's game. Tom Rose... that lad was an absolute legend.
Brainy Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 I think i've came across the greatest ever player to grace any Football Manager
NewburyFox Posted 10 January 2013 Posted 10 January 2013 I think i've came across the greatest ever player to grace any Football Manager Tell me more...
indierich06 Posted 10 January 2013 Posted 10 January 2013 Tell me more... Tell me more, like - does he have a car?
ADK Posted 10 January 2013 Posted 10 January 2013 Tried 3 games now and ended up sacked before Christmas in all of them. Not sure what i'm doing wrong.
Brainy Posted 10 January 2013 Posted 10 January 2013 Tell me more... ...He's a regen though His stats aren't particularly 20's all round but for the position he plays I think they're incredible. I've played Real Madrid 4 times since he's been there and he has scored 15 goals off the top of my head. One of them games he went goalless. Goes without saying he's scored a hat trick in the other three. And lets just say he was 1 goal off from getting 3 hat tricks the last time we played And whats worse about all this? We've just moved into our new stadium which the board decided to name after me Beat Shakhtar in our first game there. Rather conveniently lost our first Super Cup final in 10 years in our first competitive game there
munf1987 Posted 10 January 2013 Posted 10 January 2013 In 4th season with Leicester after a decent striker to take the load of Ademilson, any sugguestions? Prefably someone in mid 20's upto 27/28
indierich06 Posted 10 January 2013 Posted 10 January 2013 In 4th season with Leicester after a decent striker to take the load of Ademilson, any sugguestions? Prefably someone in mid 20's upto 27/28 Haven't got that far into the game yet, but it's well worth looking for a decent regen striker. By 4th season there should be some decent ones knocking about, try looking in national U21 teams, especially South American and African teams as they tend to produce a ridiculous amount of good regens and you can pick them up cheaply sometimes. Of course, if you want to, you can just download FM Genie Scout and check out the CA and PA of regen players... some would say that's cheating a bit though!
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 10 January 2013 Posted 10 January 2013 Started with Newcastle. Finding it so hard to sign people without bidding three times their value unless they're on the list. Drawn both my Prem games and already its evident i can't score. Play 4-2-3-1 and sometimes 4-1-2-2-1. Even Cisse with 20 finishing hasn't scored yet. Need to win a few games desperately or I'll be under pressure early on.
Fox92 Posted 10 January 2013 Posted 10 January 2013 Won the Division Three title with Rangers, and still got about 7 games left. Still unbeaten in the league. I know my players have more quality than the rest of the league, but I'm pretty pleased to be unbeaten all season (touch wood), especially considering I've had some challenging games at times - 0-3 down at Clyde, for example, and came back to pick up a point.

indierich06 Posted 10 January 2013 Posted 10 January 2013 What is FM genie scout? http://www.fmscout.c...e-scout-13.html It does a few things, but it's mostly used for finding out how much clubs will sell players for and for finding out the potential of players. They have a CA (current ability) score and a PA (potential ability) score between 1 and 200. So, for example, if you have a young kid in your u18's who has a CA of 120 and a PA of 200, you know if you develop him right he'll turn into a world class player. So it helps you identify the best players in the game really - most useful for when trying to get hold of the best regens on the cheap while they're young. It used to be free, not sure if it still is, you might have to pay a nominal fee now, like £2 or something. EDIT: It's free, just checked. Here's a guide to using it too: http://www.fmscout.com/a-genie-scout-guide.html BUT if you use it, you ARE cheating!

LCFC FOX Posted 10 January 2013 Posted 10 January 2013 Actually no I'm not its too confusing and I don't get it
BstarFox Posted 10 January 2013 Posted 10 January 2013 Is it just me or is FM13 so much harder than FM12 I just can't get a save and do well what am I doing wrong?
WhenYourSmilingLCFC Posted 10 January 2013 Posted 10 January 2013 Just started a new game with Tottenham. Signed Willian (£7,000,000), Charlie Austin (£2,000,000), Demba Ba (£7.5 mill), and Farfan for £22 mill. Sold Adebayor for about £7 mill. And Jenas. Finished first in the group stage of the Euro Cup, and currently 3rd in the league after 20 games. Before this one i had a QPR career. In 4 seasons i managed to win a League Cup, FA Cup, get to semi finals of champions league, and finish 3rd in the league. Much harder to do well on FM13 than 12. Anyone interested in playing an online game? Not played one before...
