Since writing that essay I've actually dropped the 4-2-3-1 to 2nd backup status since it nearly lost me too many matches (still unbeaten this season though ), 4-4-1-1 and 4-4-2 seem to be the magic formations for me, unfortunately that makes it much harder to chose between Nuge and Knocky, both being prolific up front for me thus far. W/r to the wm vs winger debate, I'm now convinced wm is the way to go until I can bring some more dominant central mids in to boss the centre. Team instruction tends to be balanced, counter or defensive as needs be - in previous versions attacking and control only seemed to work for me with upper prem standard teams so I haven't tried either yet (well I gave control a quick airing in one match but it seemed to tip the balance towards my opponents). Both posts above me are class.

Bugg Posted 23 January 2013 Posted 23 January 2013 Started a Leicester save, my current team looks like this: Schmeichel De Laet - Strandberg - Whitbread - Konchesky Drinkwater - Hiljemark Knockaert - Adryan - Marshall Nugent Bench - Andersen, Smith (spurs loanee), Morgan, Zanetti, King, Gallagher, Beckford i wish i could get rid of Beckford and Danns easier as well, they are a ****ing drain on my wage budget at £55k per week between the two of them!

Occasionally you'll get a bargain but negotiating on this is pointless sometimes. Nevermind, finished 2nd in the end 7 points behind wolves. Was top by 4 points at one stage but threw it all away against lower league sides like Crewe and palace. That Andre moritz has scored 8 goals all campaign for palace. All against me. 2 hattricks in the league and 2 in the cup. Which knocked me out the cup I might add in the semis, after beating manchester united 2-1, Newcastle 2-0 and qpr 5-0! Only January signing was instrumental, Lewis Mcgugan a snip at just over 900kafter selling James Henry to Leeds for 2mill. Nothing all season for forest , 4 goals and 8 assists, in 12 games! Him, hoolahan, trotter and keogh make up a dangerous front 4!

Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 23 January 2013 Posted 23 January 2013 Came fourth with Newcaste in my first season. Drew a lot of games but was hard to beat. Won the FA cup too as. Spurs won the league. Got 20 odd mill to spend first season but as it was hard to sign cheap players that soon went. Only got 4m this summer! Sold Tiote for 22m to City in first season too. Alex a 34/35 Brazilian is a mint free transfer in first season too, got me some important goals. Hoping to qualify for CL and not having to go in Europa again, unluckily went out to Galatasaray last season.

As with the previous versions, their 'value' price and 'sale' price are not the same. Both depend on many factors: a player's importance to the team, form, ability, economic status of the club, reputation of selling club/player, money in the buying club account etc. A club in economic trouble will likely sell much closer, or at, the 'value' price than clubs that are well off. Nothing new here then... My only complaint would be that there seems to be a cap to how much my own players' value/sale price can increase in a season, as they usually don't keep up with my quick progress. I'm trying to use 4-1-2-2-1 and it don't seem to work what am I doing wrong? I've got an advanced forward inside forward and wingers AP a CM a DM and lb cb cb and a) and I can't seem to get results? Without a LOT more information, there's not much I can help you with. Tactics are down to a whole lot more than just making a formation and assigning player roles. What's the playing style/mentality and what players are you using? Which division are you in, how well is the formation trained etc?

I'm having difficulty matching the roles you listed to the formation: How do you have "an advanced forward inside forward and wingers"? I'm assuming the AP's one of your central midfielders. I'm also assuming you're Leicester in which case you probably don't have the right players to make it work: If you're playing wingers you need to have big, strong CMs to boss the middle of the park and win possession, allowing the ball to be offloaded to the wingers to do their thing - I've been playing wide midfielders in a 4-4-2/4-4-1-1 instead as it means the wide men help out a lot more in the midfield battle which seems to have solved that little problem.
Finnegan Posted 24 January 2013 Posted 24 January 2013 You can be quite successful on FM without having big, strong lumps to "boss" anything. I suppose you want a bit of strength and bravery from your CB but if he's got enough pace and positioning to compensate then you can handle a lack. You certainly don't need some brick shit-house at CM just because you're playing wingers. If you're using the hassling opponents shout and are closing down everything in your own half then you can largely make like Barca and pressure an opposition in to losing the ball without having to physically bully them. Shen's right, without knowing more than a base formation there's not much advice that can be given.
