Where's Zak Whitbread ?

Recommended Posts

Pearson has said he will play when he feels he is ready. Without featuring in pre season and with being injury prone it would be idiotic to rush him to play

It was idiotic to sign him in the first place if he's not fit!

He's not injured, he just hasn't had a full pre season so why put him straight into a match? We learnt that with St Ledger

St Ledger got done by a bad challenge.

As regards ZW maybe the reason Norwich never offered him a new deal was due to him carry so many injuries.

Think we have brought a Pig in a Poke here!

I've heard he's been injured for a while.

Not very good man management from bully boy Pearson. Wonder what our other CBs will make of that statement?

Let's be honest we are looking at 8-10th in the league with the current management team, which wont help to improve team spirit when he comes out and says Zak will be first choice.

I sense trouble and squad unrest ahead!

You win promotion and trophies be creating good competition within the squad where every player feels if he works hard he will get his chance.

But by NP saying he will go with Morgan and Zak he has already destroyed other players chances of making the team.

Why did we get rid of negative rep?

I don't get why people are so determined to be negative. I'll moan when necessary but this is just laughable.

No matter how good a player is i dont see the point in signing them if they're injured.

So if Lionel Messi was released by Barcelona after breaking his leg and wanted to sign for us, knowing that in about 6 or 7 months it'd be fully healed, you'd turn him down? Have a word with yourself. Pearson and his backroom staff will have put Whitbread through the wringer during his medical to make sure he was up to the job. Pearson would not have risked signing him if he thought his injury problems would outweigh his contribution to the team.

Besides, Whitbread isn't injured anyway - he just hasn't had a pre-season due to signing quite late on. Obviously it'll take a while for him to get fully match fit and sharp again, but why rush him?

Zak has had his injury problems in the past there is no doubt about that, but the Norwich fans seem gutted that he has left and many assumed he'd be off to Villa to join up with Lambert.

But he is a class player. Because of his injury problems and the fact that he joined us late on he's getting his fitness up, working on things that have caused him problems in the past and getting up to speed with the rest of the squad. We know how much Nigel values a hard pre season and how much of a big deal he makes of sports science. When he feels that Zak is ready he'll be ready.

Free Transfer Gamble. I don't understand why you would sign an unfit defender. We are lacking in pace in the CB positions need a modern defender, who can quickly get back to cover when were in the shit. i.e. like Bamba (even though he was recovering his own mistakes) Shame St.Ledge is injured, i do think him and Morgan can strike up a solid partnership and St.Ledge isn't too slow out the traps. Haven't managed to see any pre-season is De Laet any good and has he got any pace?

I think the owners ought to sack NP and appoint someone from this forum, the wealth of knowledge on Zak Whitbread and his unsuitability is amazing particularlyas he's not kicked a ball yet..........oh that's the problem he's injured, says who? or might it be he's not had pre-season fitness training and NP and his team of specialists are managing his preparation so when he's ready to play it hopefully reduce the risk of further niggles? However you guys with the inside track, experience and knowledge of Mr Whitbreads current situation please enlighten us.

ZW is unfit now, but some Norwich fans rated him their best centre half (or maybe even defender) last season, so if he really is that good, even if he only plays in the second half of the season, he could still be a great signing.

I only saw the Sunderland friendly, but the defence played very well. De Laet played the first half, and had a pretty quiet 45 minutes, but he does have pace to burn by all accounts. Morgan and Moore were impressive. Both were dominant in the air and looked calm and in control. Granted, Sunderland were poor, but I'd still feel confident seeing those two as a central defence pairing in an important match.

I'm not sure we do need a pacy CB if the defenders we have now make fewer mistakes than Bamba and work harder than Peltier, but even if we do, De Laet is quick, and he can play at centre half.

Born in Houston, Texas, but raised in Singapore and Runcorn, Leicester City defender Zak Whitbread refers to himself, in a Scouse accent, as the most un-American of Americans.

Although he has English parents, Whitbread has opted to represent the country of his birth at international level and hopes one day to add a full cap to his under-20 and under-23 USA caps.

Although he says he will be neutral when the USA and Europe do battle in the Ryder Cup in Chicago today, Whitbread is hoping to catch the eye of national coach Jurgen Klinsmann by helping Citychallenge for promotion.

"I only lived in the States for a couple of years, so I am the most un-American American you could ever meet," said Whitbread.

"My parents are English and my dad worked over there as a coach. We came back to Runcorn when I was two, but then we went to Singapore for five years and I came back when I was 15.

"I played for the USA under-20s and under-23s and I have been called up to the full national team a couple of times but, for one reason or another, I haven't been able to get that full cap. But I hope somewhere down the line I will."

To do that, Whitbread must establish himself in the City side and he says he is now ready for action after battling for full fitness having missed much of the pre-season.

The 28-year-old had to battle back from a calf injury on his own during the summer as his contract with Norwich expired, but after a frustrating summer he says he is ready to help City's cause and will be in the first-team squad for the trip to Middlesbrough tomorrow.

"I just have to wait for my chance now," said Whitbread.

"I am ready if called upon. Football can be a strange game, so I have to be patient. The lads have done well and got some good results. As long as we win, that is the main thing."
