Attendance/Atmosphere Tonight

I think tonight was one of the worst I've ever seen/heard for a Championship league match. Must have only been about 15-18k, the kop was the thinnest I've ever seen it.

Obviously Burnley didn't bring many, which worsened the atmsophere further. It was one of those games where for long periods you could hear exactly what the players were shouting. It did pick up for a little spell after we went 2-1 up, but the nerves and booing resumed when we were under the kosh with about 10 minutes to go.

Not having a go at anybody because I know how tight money is at the moment, but it really was a poor showing tonight. I noticed from reading back the match thread that a lot of 'main' posters weren't there either.

Cmon Thais, don't let this happen again. If it looks like the turn out will be shit, do £10 a ticket or something. When the ground is so empty and quiet, it really isn't a good environment for our players to do well.

Let's make up for it on Sunday!!

It made me think back to the good old days...Athletico Madrid, Spurs match when O'Neil was about to leave and the 3-3 with Arsenal to name a few....oh how I miss Filbert St sometimes!!

Sign of the times I'm afraid. There's only so long you can go stagnating in the second tier and underperforming as a club before crowds will start to drop, and even more so when fans are expected to pay what are in truth Premier League prices in a tough financial climate.

Things are going to get worse before they get better, hopefully we'll put a consistent run together and halt the slide a bit, but in all honestly things won't improve until we are in the Premier League or at least looking like real promotion chasers, and I mean top 4 as opposed to just clinging on to the top 6. Prices certainly aren't going to get cheaper, so we might have to just get used to it.

I think that's what hurts most of all about being here, we as a City and as a club should be bringing in numbers to be proud of, as we have done for many seasons, but the last 2 years it's been going downhill. It's sad that our attendances are having to suffer now because up until recently they've stood up to a lot.

There'll be an extra 3 there on Sunday as me and my Dad will be attending for the first time this season and I'm taking my cousin to his first ever game (he's Spanish by the way, so at least our international appeal isn't suffering), I just hope the atmosphere's a bit more positive so he sees what watching the football is all about. Having said that we've had to go for the cheap option in the family stand

Oh well, we can always dream of better times....they'll be back, won't they?

Agree with this. Until we establish ourselves as promotion contenders the attendances are going to suffer. Sub 20k for us is poor, regardless of it being a midweek. The ticket prices don't help either, surely the Thais will see sense and get 1000's in for a tenner rather than 100's for £30+.

I've noticed recently though more and more people becoming disillusioned with the club, people that wouldn't usally. We're just so uninspiring at the moment.

Yep even in L1 it was quiet throughout most the first half, and even into the second half it was not what we'd like it to be 'atmosphere' wise... picked up of course after the 2 goals but still wasn't anything like it should/would like it to be..

I do remember hearing the Kop at one point mid way through the second half, seemed to be SK2/3 getting going... don't usually hear that from L1 area so we must have been quiet.

Poor attendence for sure, we shouldn't be letting it slip to under 20k really, regardless who we are playing but I do understand that many are having to pick and choose there games due to financial reasons and such... and then theres the fact that we haven't actually been setting the world on fire with our football but would still like to think we have a good 20k fanbase that turn up week in, week out regardless, clearly not the case...

But like mentioned above, it if seems like we are going to be getting low attendances for the less 'desireable' and/or midweek games then maybe the Thai's should look at doing cheap ticket prices to try and draw in a few more fans...

Last season you could get a single ticket for 20.00 which I thought was about right for the standard of football. This year the best is 25.00 which is a lot to pay for a Wednesday evening against Burnley.

I would've gone, it's tough for me to make the trip up from London for midweek games though. I wouldn't be too worried, it's like Young said on the radio, once we start stringing results together and start moving up the table, the crowds will come back - as fickle as that is.

I do wonder how low attendances have to drop before a lower price becomes more profitable. Best thing fans all over the country can do at the moment is not go to games, that way clubs will have no choice but to lower prices to get people back.

When it's £33 a ticket to watch burnley on a Wednesday night is there any surprise it was a low attendance.. This is where is pays to be a season ticket holder as I wouldn't have forked that out, especially after coming out from a loss at wolves.

Think they need to revise their mid week pricing strategy as I don't think going expensive is the answer.

No doubt the pricing is playing a big part on attendances but that's not the main reason for a poor atmosphere. We had similar sized attendances during the later life of Filbert St but that was coupled with being compact, close to the pitch and awash with success.

10 years of mediocrity takes it's toll as well and there were many games at Filbert St during similar but shorter periods of mediocrity when the atmosphere was even worse than it currently is.

I think this is the case at most grounds this season.

Some of the attendances for some of the other so called 'bigger clubs' has been below average this season.

Derby were getting over 26,000 last season but noticed they were to 20,000

It does read like a 'wall of shame' but I can't shout too loud cos I've not been to any away games yet this season. I was going to go to Wolves but then noticed it was on SKY.

This does make me wonder though, how many posters on here actually go to many games at all yet give very strong views on most matters.

I don't know the figures and probably couldn't find out but there seemed to be many 'regulars' on that list that weren't at last nights game.

I'm a season ticket holder and took my uncle last night. Even as an OAP he had to pay 33 to sit where I sit (usually 37). For the standard of football we watched in that first half, that amount of money is crazy to be honest.

Most of my mates (Filbert St ites) stopped going a couple of seasons back. They just don't consider it value for money anymore.

I think football fans in general are becoming disinterested . They are waking up to the fact that football is an expensive game to follow and on top of that the control that sky have on when games are played. In our own case years of mediocre football at premiership prices have taken their toll and lets be honest mediocre football is still the norm for us and I and many other potential supports can't see that changing under the present set up.

You can only put up with this level of football for so long before you start to question why am I paying all this hard earned money when there is no visible signs that things are going to get better ? And it's not just championship football ( second division ) even when I watch some prem games there are row upon row of empty seats outside the top six clubs. I have been a season ticket holder for many years and still love my club and always will but I can understand why people are turning their backs on the club and football in general. When I asked my Grandfather if he would like to come down to one of the matches he simply replied " Why they don't come and see me when I'm bad ? " that about sums it up for me.
