You're probably right mate. I do think Ben looks like he needs a breather. King may well be an ideal replacement.

Agree, however NP prob go with same barring injuries :D

I'm jealous you're going...

I'm at bloody work that evening.

And yes, I guess Nige will stick with the same 11..

I would make 2 changes for Huddersfield away Dyer for Marshall and King for James, if Da Laet hasn't shaked off his knock in time play St Ledger at RB with Moore partnering Morgan.

No no no no no. Impact sub.

I know Marshall is out of form but has Dyer had the desired impact coming on as sub recently? Yes. Was he having much effect previously starting games? No, next to no effect and incredibly frustrating. The change will probably be made but it is a very bad move.

I do agree with the notion Dyer should be an impact sub ,but Marshall atm looks out of the races so a rest on the bench could do him the world of good, Dyer will give you pace whether he comes on as a sub or starting and creativity wise we have Knockaert and King providing those runs and through balls to score the goals.

huddersfield blow very hot and cold. if we turn up correct we should do the business, considering they've got a few out. another 2-1 either way.

How about this for a zany idea Dave?

Drop Marshall ( most admit the lad needs a rest) and play Wellens in the centre of a three man central midfield. Maybe a more advanced Wellens, backed up by the workrate of Drinky and James could do more damage?

Summat a bit like this:

James. Drinky

Wellens

Knocky. Vardy

Nuge

I know you don't like Wellens, but played in this way he could maybe unlock defences?

Just a thought...

You are quite right Col........

It is a zany idea, quite absurd in fact..... :flowers:

Replacing Knockeart with Wellens in the pivotal attacking role, have you been at the cooking sherry?....... :P

Just the opposite..... ;)

He needs to be more involved, not less.......

Foxblogger says this is the best start we've had to a season at this level for 10 years. We got promoted that season. Do people STILL want to get rid of Pearson? I think we're well capable of winning the next 3 games as well as the last 3. Let's all get behind Pearson and the team and try and set a new best start record

I would like to see King start for James. And Danns replace James on the bench.

I would love to see Danns on the bench, because it will mean he has bucked up his ideas, shown the right attitude and ability in training to contribute positively to this side.

If he hasn't, then he doesn't deserve to be on the bench. The option of a fit sharp and on form Danns on the bench to come on and inject some pace and urgency or a bit of bite and energy to help close out a game is a good one.

The option of the Danns that played against Burton and Blackburn is not.

Truth be told, if we can beat Huddersfield, we would have a chance to go for 9 in a row IMO. I don't like to look too far ahead, but if we can get the confidence of two away wins in a row, coupled with our home form, I see no reason why this can't be done. We'll require a bit of luck along the way, just like we did yesterday, but why not!

Posted

FFS why....... :dunno:

We are beginning to get results playing calm, controlled, possession football and you want to bring in a player who runs around a lot and gives away the ball away for no reason...... :frusty:

You'll be wanting Ritchie back next...... >_<

I'd much rather have him on the bench than Danns, he can pass the ball and tackle.

I get the impression from Nigel's interviews that like Beckford Dannzy isn't working hard enough, which is his main assett usually. So with that in mind I'm happy for him not to be in the squad.

King in for James makes sense.

Really do not want either of them near the matchday squad, neither would bring anything positive and both have considerable downsides.

Assuming we are only playing 2 from King, Drinkwater and James then we don't need them, and if we did, I still wouldn't pick them.......

Because James is awful and Danns deserves a chance.

Neil Danns is terrible. On his best day he still can't pass, tackle, read the game, retain the ball... I could go on. Add the fact that he's horrendously out of form, he can't be match fit at all and Drinkwater and King look about ten times better than him... I can't see why you'd want him anywhere near the squad. I certainly don't. James hasn't had an amazing start, but he can pass the ball, read the game and doesn't lose possession all the time, making him an infinitely better choice than Danns.

Those who want Danns back in the side obviously can't see what problems our midfield had last season and how they've been fixed by Pearson this season. Last season we lost possession all the time and our passing was often dire. Neil Danns was a big part of this. It's very rare that you'll see King, Drinky or James give away the ball or misplace a pass. Danns couldn't find a blue shirt in the City Megastore.

I think this is a bit harsh to be honest. I think Dann's is a good player however, he is a bit erratic. However, we have better options and the form players should start.

I honestly don't think it's harsh. He seems like a nice bloke but he can't do the simple things consistently or easily. He puts a lot of effort in and covers a lot of ground, but often to no effect. I can see why people might like him because everyone loves a trier, but he's just not as good as the other midfielders on our books.

Most people who say Danns is good and should be in the team describe him as being energetic, or providing a 'spark', but they never offer any tangible explanation as to what he brings to the team. This is because he doesn't really bring an awful lot to the team.

With players like King and Drinky, you can point out the fact that they both pass well, they both retain the ball well, they both tackle well...

I find the timing of the 'loan' of Beckford to Huddersfield most intriguing - even more so when you think about the dismissive and curt manner that NP replied to Ian Stringer's question. Words to the effect 'He wanted to go so I let him. That's it'!

If NP has such a low opinion of Beckford, then I just wonder why he hasn't said to Town that he has no objection to Beckford being in their squad tomorrow night. Now, that would make tomorrow night really interesting - and I wonder what 'secrets' he may have passed on!

Personally, I am sorry that things have worked out as they have but I have long held the view that for Beckford to come good, we should have signed Beccio.

Whatever, I expect to bag another 3 points one way or another.

I'd have thought the timing is more about when the loan ends in so much as they'll be able to wrap it up to a perm when the window opens

What I don't understand is why Huddesfiled never just bought him with their Justin Rhodes money... I know Beckford & his agent would probably be manourvering for his wages to remain at a level that is unsustainable for the division so that probably gave them reason to have cause for concern, whereas they can just loan him and remain risk free if he similarly doesn't work out there

Really don't think NP has a low opinion of Beckford, he played him absolutely loads and even looked to have good celebratory banter with him on the rare occasions he scored.

Personally I'd love to play against him

At Blackburn, having gone 2-1 down, thanks to one Neil Danns error of judgement, it was crying out for Beckford to come on as Knocky and time d Marshall were having a field day pumping balls into the box, To bring him on during added time was ridiculous and pointless which is exactly what we got at the final whistle.

If you are as you suggest 'pumping balls into the box' why on earth would you want Beckford in there....... :dunno:

Playing as we have in the last couple of games, maybe, but getting on the end of balls pumped in from wide positions..... :nono:

So for our multi million pound player to do his job, which is scoring goals, we need to sign another player? I think I'd rather stick with what we've got.

Yes with our team selection and tatics we should play 5 in the midfield and one upfront and that will make us hard to beat.

I don't know if you noticed but we have played two different formations this year already. We currently have the 3rd best defence in the league and sit one point off top. So you could argue we already are quite hard to beat. We've won 3 on the trot and you are asking for us to completely change formation and tactics, the mind boggles.

Posted

Because James is awful and Danns deserves a chance.

James is awful, really? For the first time in what seems like forever, we are controlling games and the midfield. We are sitting one point off top and won three on the bounce. Can you say that about a team that ever contained Danns or even Beckford for that matter. No.

But there are still calls to reinstate a man who was in the heart of a midfield unable to control games and unable to get us remotely looking like winning three on the trot.

James, Drinkwater and King are doing a fine job of working together at the moment. And if there are any changes it should be King in for James.

James is not awful at all, he's just a very unglamourous style of footballer. He's slowly starting to make an impact in my opinion. He was excellent vs Hull.

From the commentary (I know.... :P ) and from some comments here and elsewhere, it appeared that we were playing different formations at different times, sometimes with both Vardy and Nugent up top, sometimes just Nugent with Vardy tucking in on the right.

With 2 holding players it should be possible for the front 4 to be flexible without having to 'completely change formation and tactics' and adapt and evolve to the requirements of the game......

The only major change that could be contemplated is playing James, King and Drinkwater, with Knockeart doing his thing behind Vardy and Nugent, or as I suggested elsewhere, bringing out the Christmas tree a tad early.

Years ago, a former Chairman of the City was a friend of my dad and he was a regular visitor to our house usually on a Sunday morning. Inevitably, the conversation centered on football and City's result the previous afternoon. In my enthusiasm, I would occasionally suggest a player's name that the Club might consider signing.

However, he never revealed any Boardroom secrets but what he would say is 'Before I buy anyone, I have to see if we have the right person to 'make' that player already on our books.

When Beckford was partnered by Beccio at Leeds, they were quite a deadly duo. Beckford has never been quite same player since they split up.

One of my suggestions was eventually adopted. That was Albert Cheeseborough. As he came in, he said to me 'You're going to be pleased. Read tomorrow's Mercury!'
