indierich06 Posted 1 October 2012 Posted 1 October 2012 Years ago, a former Chairman of the City was a friend of my dad and he was a regular visitor to our house usually on a Sunday morning. Inevitably, the conversation centered on football and City's result the previous afternoon. In my enthusiasm, I would occasionally suggest a player's name that the Club might consider signing. However, he never revealed any Boardroom secrets but what he would say is 'Before I buy anyone, I have to see if we have the right person to 'make' that player already on our books. When Beckford was partnered by Beccio at Leeds, they were quite a deadly duo. Beckford has never been quite same player since they split up. One of my suggestions was eventually adopted. That was Albert Cheeseborough. As he came in, he said to me 'You're going to be pleased. Read tomorrow's Mercury!' Oh I'm with you completely; any player we bring in should be purchased with the team in mind. Where will we utilise them? Will they work well within the system and players we're using? This just goes to show that Sven's scattergun approach to signing players was madness, he just collected 'big name' players and expected to walk the league. He never built a team here. Beckford probably would excel with a target man to lay off easy chances for him, but that's not how we're playing here. When it looks like the best way to get the most out of a player is to bring another player in to play with him, I say it's time to get rid. And Cheeseborough? Not a bad shout!
bmt Posted 1 October 2012 Posted 1 October 2012 We're not gonna sell this out are we? Just because I might leave getting a ticket until tomorrow as I live in Leeds.
Reynard Bleu Posted 1 October 2012 Posted 1 October 2012 Another tough away game. Every point we get we will have to work hard for. No Vaughan is a good thing for us, but its all about how we play. If we do the simple things well and keep the tempo high we can get something out of the game. No room for complacenency, 3 wins on the bounce is an improvement, 6-7 wins on the bounce is the form we need for promotion.
kingfox Posted 1 October 2012 Posted 1 October 2012 Like I have said loads of times before, sometimes I think Matty James isn't the type of midfielder we need. However his home performances have really impressed me, he was excellent against Peterborough, thought he was decent against Burnley, but flaming fantastic against Hull. He was a vital part of our side against Hull, he did the unspectacular but most important things very well, like breaking up attacks, linking up and defending and attacking. He has done very well at home this season, but away from home he hasn't been the best, it's a bit like Liam Moore in my opinion, Moore has been fantastic at home but away from home he has had a couple of dodgy performances. But King and St Ledger/Whitbread can easily slip in for those two in away matches, and when King came on against Middlesbrough people said he was the difference, and with St Ledger in defence alongside Morgan we actually did better and of course ended up winning.
Ric Flair Posted 1 October 2012 Posted 1 October 2012 I hope King get's the nod tomorrow night, his form has been superb this season. James is doing ok and he's certainly not awful as some have claimed but he's not a patch on King currently. Other than that it would be the same team for me, with Moore or Whitbread replacing De Laet if he's injured.
LCFC FOX Posted 1 October 2012 Posted 1 October 2012 Danns is a game changer. OK he has his faults but he is a quality player. Can't see how you think James is a better player at the minute. As soon as he went off Saturday the game changed.

As soon as he went off Saturday the game changed. James will keep possession of the ball much better than Danns and his pass completion rate, even if they are sideways passes, is much, much better than Danns. He's also started all of the last 3 games, and we've won all of them. Granted he's not the main reason for doing this but he's played his part. With the way we're playing this season James suits this style and lots of teams have players that play a similar role (Britton, Allen, etc.) He's never going to be the stand out player but he does very little wrong and that's key. We simply can't afford to accommodate a player like Danns because of his flaws. His main strength, which is his work rate, would also be far less noticeable than last season because the whole team works a lot harder.

Captain... Posted 1 October 2012 Posted 1 October 2012 Danns is a game changer. OK he has his faults but he is a quality player. Can't see how you think James is a better player at the minute. As soon as he went off Saturday the game changed. Danns changes games, but as often as he changes things for the better he is just as likely to change things for the worse. James may not have the influence Danns has at his best, but at least you can rely on him to perform.
LCFC FOX Posted 1 October 2012 Posted 1 October 2012 I'm not complaining I would just like to see Danns make the bench. If we are losing he is one player I would like to come on.
marbelladave Posted 1 October 2012 Posted 1 October 2012 I'm not complaining I would just like to see Danns make the bench. If we are losing he is one player I would like to come on. Why........
tylesta Posted 1 October 2012 Posted 1 October 2012 Neil Danns is terrible. On his best day he still can't pass, tackle, read the game, retain the ball... I could go on. Add the fact that he's horrendously out of form, he can't be match fit at all and Drinkwater and King look about ten times better than him... I can't see why you'd want him anywhere near the squad. I certainly don't. James hasn't had an amazing start, but he can pass the ball, read the game and doesn't lose possession all the time, making him an infinitely better choice than Danns. Those who want Danns back in the side obviously can't see what problems our midfield had last season and how they've been fixed by Pearson this season. Last season we lost possession all the time and our passing was often dire. Neil Danns was a big part of this. It's very rare that you'll see King, Drinky or James give away the ball or misplace a pass. Danns couldn't find a blue shirt in the City Megastore. are you being serious wolves game drinkwater's passing was worse than the olympic blind teams!
Chairman of the Bored Posted 2 October 2012 Posted 2 October 2012 First time for ages that I'm seriously miffed about not being able to get to this one. Half tempted to down tools and go, but I can't . Good luck travelling Fox fans and team!
Vlad The Impaler Posted 2 October 2012 Posted 2 October 2012 are you being serious wolves game drinkwater's passing was worse than the olympic blind teams! The Paralympics?
Manwell Pablo Posted 2 October 2012 Posted 2 October 2012 As fate would have it am actually going to this now. Will have 30 minutes at work to make up, miss out on a decent dinner, miss football training and as a result will probably spend Saturday on the Bench after travelling all the way to Oadby like, but I am actually going to an away game.
ousefox Posted 2 October 2012 Posted 2 October 2012 Can't wait for this, will be a long trip for me but loved the last game we played there and hopefully it'll be the same result. Hope King starts and can see him getting a goal tonight if he does. Just hope Marshall gets his arse into gear again
Jace Posted 2 October 2012 Posted 2 October 2012 On paper we can certainly win tonight but 4 wins in a row? Seriously? I never even dreamt of seeing 3 in a row this season
Fmfox Posted 2 October 2012 Posted 2 October 2012 if we win today we could go on a run of a few more wins i feel, loose and we'll proably win a few and draw a few after but im pretty confident about tonight
ealingfox Posted 2 October 2012 Posted 2 October 2012 Would take a draw tonight, but Nige has a decent record against Hudders and Grayson, definitely winnable.
kingfox Posted 2 October 2012 Posted 2 October 2012 Win tonight and win on Saturday we could be top as we head into the International break, that would be so good. Huddersfield are similar to us in my opinion, same type midfielders but I think we are slightly better in the attacking roles now Rhodes has left them. Will be tough but still sticking with a 1-1 draw, all about controlling that midfield again, because against a team like Huddersfield, I believe Drinkwater, James and King can get the upper hand. Hopefully Moore can have a solid game if he replaces De Laet.
Thracian Posted 2 October 2012 Posted 2 October 2012 I'm not complaining I would just like to see Danns make the bench. If we are losing he is one player I would like to come on. And who exactly deserves to lose their place on the bench? Are you the lad's brother or something because I can't think of anything that makes a case for Danns right now.
