Happy Fox Posted 8 October 2012 Posted 8 October 2012 Bit of a pisstake really why cannot it be at Welford Road it isn't as if it cannot host international Rugby it will mostly be a sellout their it is absolutely despicable that we would have to host Rugby matches yes I know we held them before but that was because their stadium wasn't up to capacity then surely their stadium can cope with the demands?
Nick Posted 8 October 2012 Posted 8 October 2012 Great news - raise the profile of sport in Leicester and the club will make lots of gate money - more than enough for a new pitch or two.

Why? Give actual reasons rather than just whining about Rugby.
Facecloth Posted 8 October 2012 Posted 8 October 2012 What I don't get about this is why they're still discussing stadiums. When a country bid for the football World Cup or the Olympics they have to have the all the stadia in place or plans for new ones to be built put forward before a bid is even considered. We've already won the right to host this World Cup and they're still messing around deciding where the games are going to be played.

When its the football or the olympics there are numerous countries bidding, therefore each bid must lay out precisely how its going to work in order to secure backing. For rugby that simply isn't the case. The IRB are probably just glad somebody can be bothered to host it. As for the Leicestershire Tigers, apparently their pitch isn't even big enough to host an international tournament? Surely they could have sorted that before they put the new stand up?

Well I was looking earlier and 4 countries put bids in. Italy were one, I can't remember the other 2. That's roughly how many bid for the Olympics or the football at one time. But even the Commonwealth games have to have stadium plans in place. Just seems a bit amateurish.
MPH Posted 9 October 2012 Posted 9 October 2012 Destroy our 800k pitch why don't you. What a sack of shite. I do agree with this. Are the financial benefits enough to cover replacing the pitch again? If so, i'm all for it. If not, why bother... Are you guys serious?there will be quite a lot of revenue generated from the Rugby world cup. We will be quids in for sure.
MPH Posted 9 October 2012 Posted 9 October 2012 As much as I'd like to see the World Cup in person I don't want it to be here as it would wreck our pitch. Mixed feelings but I'm not against it if we were to hold some games! Would love to see New Zealand if they play at the stadium! I think im having an evening where im only noticing strange comments. *deep breath* Do you not think, that with the money generated from hosting some games, we could afford to relay the pitch?
LE15 Posted 9 October 2012 Posted 9 October 2012 I wouldnt worry about it The King Power wont get chosen they will opt for the Ricock Arena over us
goose2010 Posted 9 October 2012 Posted 9 October 2012 As i Said it wouldn't ruin the pitch in the slightest, the standard of pitch at the KP is as good as old trafford, they played the super league (i know different sport) grand final there on Saturday and after the game it didn't look like it had be touched, the tigers could play at our stadium every week and the only thing you would notice is the line markings. I would love to see the KP get picked get revenue for the club and like someone else mentioned it would raise the profile of sport in Leicester and bring new revenue to the city its self.
davieG Posted 9 October 2012 Posted 9 October 2012 We're only on a shortlist and will probably miss out anyway.
Mack Posted 9 October 2012 Posted 9 October 2012 We've got an 800k Deso pitch. The Egg chasers can piss off and ruin someone else's!
accessory Posted 10 October 2012 Posted 10 October 2012 Because sharing a pitch with rugby sides has really held back clubs like Reading, Swansea and Wigan..
Finnegan Posted 10 October 2012 Posted 10 October 2012 I love that Swansea played the country's best passing football on a pitch shared year round with rugby's galacticos yet our fans are worried about two or three games. ****ing hell.
TrentFox Posted 10 October 2012 Posted 10 October 2012 Slightly different angle, but can't help thinking how little progress rugby clubs have made collectively in improving their grounds since we won the RWC all those years ago. It was supposed to be the dawning of a new era of interest in the sport that was going to drive attendances up. Yet very few have added any real capacity to their stadia. Indeed, many have continued to borrow football grounds in that period. Proud that the rugby club in our City has been one of the exceptions in that sport.

Pretty much what I was trying to say earlier, it's a real stagnant sport now, considering it's supposed to be the countries second game (probably third now after Cricket but still) it's incredible they can't find the stadia to host a World Cup.
breadandcheese Posted 10 October 2012 Posted 10 October 2012 We're only on a shortlist and will probably miss out anyway. I would be amazed if Leicester, home of the best supported rugby club in the country, does not get world cup games.
Jimmy Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 the Welford Road pitch is also too small for international rugby, you should see the bitch fest on their forum over this decision

Guest MattP Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 Been thinking about this after being quite neutral to the idea towards the start, after considering all the points and pros and cons, rugby being played in a football ground and how pathetic it is that they can't even raise the stadia themselves to host a World Cup. Quite frankly, they can go and fcuk themselves. We'll end up getting some right shit as well I bet, the Romanian/Georgian rugby team shouldn't be allowed anywhere near our pitch.
davieG Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 Well I'm sure if the boot was on the foot and Welford Rd. was being proposed for a Footy World Cup game at the expense of the KP this forum and other LCFC ones would be in melt down. Surely the pitch meets the Rules of Rugby requirements that being the case it sounds like an excuse, it's the norm these days for those 'in charge' of organisations be they political, business, sporting, social to bow to the power of the ££££ at the expense of those at the bottom that actively support and are paramount to their existence in the first place. Those people running Rugby would do well to show some humility and recognise the fact that without the grass root fans they and their positions wouldn't exist and they'd have to find another gravy train to live off. As a football and LCFC fan I wholeheartedly support the Tigers complaint.
Itsthejoeker Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 Deso Sports lay American football pitches, and half of them look like they haven't been touched. And they train on their pitches.
Haydos Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 Just wanted to clarify I'd welcome it being held at our place but I'm not for our place over theirs. Can see how they'd be peeved that they were getting shafted if the stadiums in order. Some of the lower profile games surely won't attract much more than 25k anyway?
ScouseFox Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 Yeah, I was wondering how many people from or near Leicester would want to shell out probably quite a bit of money to watch, let's say Namibia vs Russia in a dead rubber group game. Be lucky to get 25 people there, let alone 25k. Not sure why they need the bigger attendance unless it's for England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales or a semi final or the final, all of which will presumably be played at bigger grounds than the KP anyway.
