flowwolf Posted 20 October 2012 Posted 20 October 2012 I wonder if the two stupid to breath policemen who shot that blind man with a taser will be jailed for endangering his life ? rhetorical question I suppose
MPH Posted 20 October 2012 Posted 20 October 2012 The latest in a spate of ridiculously heavy handed punishments dealt out by the courts recently. I'm going to make sure I never get caught committing a crime again. I actually think this sentancing is linked with all the riots that happened. might sound silly, i know. The government are clamping down on public order offences for the very reason you just mentioned- to deter people from letting it happen again. They dont want Heroes to be made out of this kind of thing. There are some nations where you get 30 lashes of the whip for dropping litter, or spraying graffiti... OTT? im sure. But it has the desired effect. Some of the cleanest countries around.
ADK Posted 20 October 2012 Posted 20 October 2012 Yeah i was gonna disrupt the next boat race but now i'm not so sure if it's worth it.
davieG Posted 20 October 2012 Posted 20 October 2012 I blame that Emily Davison of suffragette fame for disrupting the Derby and getting herself killed back in 1914. for this seemingly heavy clamp down.

Daggers Posted 20 October 2012 Posted 20 October 2012 Quite. Pour encourager les autres. Exactly. I'm sure there will not be shitloads of people swimming in the Thames next time.
21st Century Fox Posted 22 October 2012 Posted 22 October 2012 Go for a swim and interrupt a boat race = 6 months Assault a player and interrupt a football match = 4 months
Parafox Posted 22 October 2012 Posted 22 October 2012 Fair sentence I think, endangered his own life and ruined something for thousands of people. Be interesting to see what the Hillsborough police superintendent gets...
marko Posted 22 October 2012 Posted 22 October 2012 Be interesting to see what the Hillsborough police superintendent gets... Advice on how to cover it up better and get away with it.
Mike Oxlong Posted 22 October 2012 Posted 22 October 2012 He'd better steer clear of the cox at shower time.
acooling08 Posted 22 October 2012 Posted 22 October 2012 I think it is harsh but not as laughable as some people have said. I'd have given him between a month and 3 months max.
glenny_fox Posted 22 October 2012 Posted 22 October 2012 Considering the guy that asaulted Kirkland only got 4 months, i think 6 months for interupting a boat race is a tad harsh.
Webbo Posted 22 October 2012 Posted 22 October 2012 Considering the guy that asaulted Kirkland only got 4 months, i think 6 months for interupting a boat race is a tad harsh. Or is 4 months for assault lenient?
purpleronnie Posted 22 October 2012 Author Posted 22 October 2012 Or is 4 months for assault lenient? I dont think so, kirkland wasn't injured.
Parafox Posted 22 October 2012 Posted 22 October 2012 He'd better steer clear of the cox at shower time. Hadn't we all?
Guest Posted 22 October 2012 Posted 22 October 2012 The two (Oldfield & Cawley) are not comparable. The former was found guilty of an offence, that carries a maximum life sentence, after a trial. The latter pleaded guilty to a completely different offence, carrying a maximum sentence of 6 months, at the earliest opportunity.
