Leicesterpool Posted 5 November 2012 Posted 5 November 2012 This as been talked about for a few many years now, personally I've been hoping it would happen. It would make the english a little bit of more exciting, be good for a few lower league clubs due to both teams have good away support. Another thing is it would help both clubs attract bigger named players to join, plus would bump more cash into both clubs due to television and that. Your thoughts?
purpleronnie Posted 5 November 2012 Posted 5 November 2012 Be prepared for a definate No response, and the nonsense 'they'd never survive in the premiership' response, and the 'they should start in non league and make their way through the divisions' response, and the 'we dont want all that polkitics in the english league' response....I think that just about covers it. Oh one more be prepared for the sarcastic response.
Jagdinho Posted 5 November 2012 Posted 5 November 2012 Imagine the journey back for Plymouth if they ever got one of them in a cup tie. I don't see how they would be able to put them both straight into the Prem though?
purpleronnie Posted 5 November 2012 Posted 5 November 2012 The police would like it, imagine all that overtime.
ADK Posted 5 November 2012 Posted 5 November 2012 No they arnt English. If the Scots have their way they might actually be a completely foreign country. Would rather have French teams in the league.
AyewJoking Posted 5 November 2012 Posted 5 November 2012 It would be unjust to put Rangers in at the same level as Celtic anyway. I think they should merge and rename themselves the Glasgow Infidels. Then I would let them in.
linemakers Posted 5 November 2012 Posted 5 November 2012 No way, still remember the trouble when Celtic came for a Friendly. The way they threatened families and behaviour in front of small kids said it all. We don't get much trouble in England any more ( apart from the players abusing each other) so don't need them to upset the apple cart. Let them support Scottish football, were ok with out them thanks
ADK Posted 5 November 2012 Posted 5 November 2012 One option is to completely merge the British leagues (well Welsh Scottish and English). I can see this being good for Scottish and Welsh teams but would mean some long trips which might be inconvenient.

That would give FIFA the ammunition they need to insist that the FAs of those Countries also become one FA
Trav Le Bleu Posted 5 November 2012 Posted 5 November 2012 I thought they were all voting for independence?
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 5 November 2012 Posted 5 November 2012 I'd like to have em down here, think it would be a good thing.

Bayfox Posted 5 November 2012 Posted 5 November 2012 NO, although I love the idea of being able to do Parkhead and Ibrox as awaydays it's just not a great idea, the police costs and clear up costs of having the english go up there and them come down here every week will never be accepted by the police and general public. Plus at the end of the day they would have to start in at least the championship, there is no way most L1 and L2 clubs are set up to cater for the huge away followings they would bring, Celtic especially would travel without tickets as has been seen in the past. How do small towns cope with that and why would clubs vote in favour of them joining at a cost to themselves unless we run a division with 2 extra teams for a year or 2. I just see to many reasons for it not to happen over the benefits, infact the only people to benefit are the 2 glasgow clubs, does english football need them? No, Does scottish football need them, maybe but without them at least the league would be more competitive. Rangers are possibly helping with the lower league revenue at the minute and maybe that would be a benefit in the short term to lower leagues here, but lets be honest, whatever level they start at they will eventually reach the top flight, look at the sides they have put together in the past, maybe not legally in Rangers case, but with the premier league money, it wouldn't be long before they did it again. I think they have to accept until there is a european league with a almost closed shop policy which based on name alone they may get invited to join, they are stuck where they are.
Guest MattP Posted 5 November 2012 Posted 5 November 2012 No way, I'm pro Rangers but bith sets of fans generally cause chaos whenever they hit an English town on mass, shouldn't happen. Celtic swanning around every town in England singing theire anti-British/English tripe certainly isn't welcome.

purpleronnie Posted 5 November 2012 Posted 5 November 2012 It would be fun seeing the hoops take over all the stadiums and improve the atmopshere...make the premiership a bit more interesting.
davieG Posted 5 November 2012 Posted 5 November 2012 That wouldn't be a bad thing. I don't think the Scots & Welsh would agree with you, the Scots wouldn't even participate in the GB Olympic team..
Leicesterpool Posted 5 November 2012 Author Posted 5 November 2012 One idea could be, put them both in the blue square north taking it to 24 teams instead of 22. It would save clubs like Hinckley from going bust However I can see all you points, in some ways it would ruin the spl, more than likely teams from there would probably want to join aswell, but like I said again it would help clubs in the lower leagues, bigger away following=more money.

Only for a short while, most haven't got that much space for it to make a big difference and their stewarding/police costs would inevitably rise, so in all probability they'll be worse off. Add to that, in the short term less chance of getting promoted, the potential loss of two teams from the FL and eventually the PL. If they really reach their potential with the extra PL revenues and the ability to attractive better quality players you reduce the chance of English teams being in the CL. I really can't see any justification or benefits for the English Leagues, it's just a fanciful idea in all respects.
purpleronnie Posted 5 November 2012 Posted 5 November 2012 Why should we save Rangers? Let them rot. Well the fans certainly didn't try.
Manwell Pablo Posted 5 November 2012 Posted 5 November 2012 I'd be more for kicking Cardiff and Swansea out than having Rangers and Celtic join.
Corky Posted 5 November 2012 Posted 5 November 2012 No. They've played in Scotland all of their histories, there is no real justification for bringing them down here.
