Parafox Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 Unless I've missed it I'm amazed this hasn't been a hot topic over the last couple of days. The Cuntservatives have announced that those who have been unemployed for 3 years or more will be given work on a full time basis in order to recieve even the basic benefits. If they don't accept work they will have to attend the Jobcentre every working day. If they miss one visit they will be penalised 4 weeks of benefit. If they miss a seond visit it's 3 months worth of benefit. If they can't work due to some underlying reason, they will be made to attend "support" groups and gain whatever it is they are lacking. For example, it is suggested that if it's a literacy problem they will be taught English, if it's numearcy they'll be taught maths. What if they have learning difficulties or mental health issues which are a barrier to learning? What if they can't drive and the job they are given is some distance away? Who will provide the additional money for bus fares, because the basic benefit allowance will not stretch that far. (And please don't give me the bollocks about having take-away meals, big TV's and Sky and a console etc. Sure some do, but many, many don't). I know people like MattP and Moosebreath will be having orgasms at this but to me it stinks. Not necessarily because it's unfair but, if they can provide work on a full time basis for the jobless, isn't that... A JOB???? Why not pay them the rate for the job they are given? Examples these clowns came up with are along the lines of litter-picking, painting council properties, (already have workers being paid full time rates for this). Also, making meals for the elderly. (Already people employed on a proper wage for this too). I know I will be berated for my view but please bear in mind I'm not suggesting people shouldn't give something in return for benefits but if it's effectively "A JOB", why not make them "EMPLOYED" thereby entitling them to the benefits of being employed?

It got tacked onto an existing older thread. I agree with you completely. I just knew the current majority demographic on FT would be pro so I couldn't really be bothered arguing too hard.
Guest MattP Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 Been wanting it for years and finally glad they are trying to do something to finally start making people actually do something for the free money they get off the taxpayer. Even just as a token effort I'd like to see them contributing something. Still not convinced how workable the idea and we'll have to see how it goes is but thank god someone is finally in government happy not just to pay people for sitting on their backside. When you look across the pond and see the USA going into lockdown being on the verge of bankrupcy things are looking better and better for the way the Cuntservatives have handled the economy.
Harry - LCFC Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 Too much IMO. Have a few punishments for lack of application but don't deprive them totally. Right to live and all that.
Parafox Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 There's already a topic on it in gen chat OK I couldn't find it. Mods to merge this?
BoneDog Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 Multi-billion pound corporations will be rubbing their hands. All low paid workers should be ready to rise up at news like this before it's too late. Else before long, you will have two workfare people replacing you at your job and then you yourself will end up on workfare to take somebody else's job. Soon, half the country will be stacking shelves for multi-billion pound corporations for peanuts! GENIUS.
BoneDog Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 It's not hyperbole. It genuinely sickens me. Are there any other uses/wastes of taxpayers money that also sicken you? The people who abuse a benefits system are using up a miniscule portion of taxpayers money and there is much more waste that really should sicken people. One thing that sickens me is how the multi-billion £/$ companies have their tax bills cleared and how the mega rich find ways of not paying their taxes either. And then you have people saying things like, 'Well if we make them pay their tax they'll take their business elsewhere'. I say let them take their business elsewhere and many other companies will pop up to replace them and fill the gap. There are competent people out there who could do just as good a job/service who would also be willing to pay their taxes. Only weak or corrupt leaders with no real intention of helping the majority of it's citizens allow the sort of thing that's going on nowadays. But apparently it's their way or no way.
The People's Hero Posted 1 October 2013 Author Posted 1 October 2013 Lots of things sicken me. I hadn't realised I was being asked for an exhaustive list.
Rincewind Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 How I understand it the unemployed are being asked to return to work in jobs for wages that are below the going rate or the legal minimum wage.

MooseBreath Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 How I understand it the unemployed are being asked to return to work in jobs for wages that are below the going rate or the legal minimum wage. There is no wage. You get up to 25 grand's worth of benefits.
Rincewind Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 Well said I'd go along with that. Some are easier targets however. Who are politicians more likely to be on the same level with? Think logically not politically.

notnow john Posted 2 October 2013 Posted 2 October 2013 I won't link to it, but if I'm understanding the article correctly, they have 6 kids as they are 'super fertile' and immune to contraception, have a free (new) 4 bed house, and £27k of benefits, tax free of course. Neither have worked since 2005, and I think only one of them worked then. To put this in to context. I earn less than £27k, pay tax on that and struggle to pay my mortgage (3 bed house). I have 3 kids. I'm clearly just bitter though, right? I mean, that's totally fair. Why don't you get a full time job?
Rincewind Posted 2 October 2013 Posted 2 October 2013 I would have a guess the 27k includes rent and council tax. I do not know what child allowance is per child. Even if he had a job (does not say) his income would be made up to 25-27k depending on the location. I am not saying it is right or wrong. Over the past two or three years wages have stagnated, there are fewer decent paid jobs and prices such as energy have been rising drawing the middle income families into or close to the poverty trap. If a person loses their job at present they are able to seek help and benefits until they find a new job. There are proposals to raise this to 39 weeks. If the person is on a low wage they may not have a great amount in savings (over 6k they cannot claim benefits) How long will that last if they have a mortgage? What happens if you default on payments?
breadandcheese Posted 2 October 2013 Posted 2 October 2013 I don't understand how anyone can be against the idea in principle. Those who have been on benefits for 3 years are being supported by society. It's not really too much to ask for them to contribute something back. That's the basis of a tax and welfare system. Everyone contributes and it is then there for you if need it. The principle is sound. You can argue over the specifics, like how many hours they should do or what sort of jobs, but the principle of contributing something back is pretty sound.

I totally agree, there some details that need alterating but the principles are sound.
ithuriel Posted 2 October 2013 Posted 2 October 2013 Where I work most of the peeps taken on this year have been Polish immigrants, the starting pay is crap, hell the normal pay is crap but if a position becomes available a Pole suddenly appears to fill it and they will work hard to keep it. Guess they want it more than others?

It's a sad reflection of the society we live in some still believe people deserve somthing for nothing. The fact the comments of those who do usually tie in with some anti-Tory should probably give you a clue though, paying people to do nothing is a vital part of what would get the Labour party elected, they don't have another Blair to fall back on.
Parafox Posted 2 October 2013 Posted 2 October 2013 There is no wage. You get up to 25 grand's worth of benefits. Piss off you ignorant twat.

I'm not against the PRINCIPLE, but if they can put people in full time jobs why not make them EMPLOYED!!!! Pay them at least the minimum wage and give them the additional rights of an employment contract.
MooseBreath Posted 2 October 2013 Posted 2 October 2013 Piss off you ignorant twat. There is no 'wage' and the benefit cap is £25k. What I posted is plain fact. You undermine yourself by equating fact with ignorance, and further discredit your opinion by responding to fact with an insult.
Rincewind Posted 2 October 2013 Posted 2 October 2013 Can not people understand that if an unemployed person does a job and is paid JSA for doing it then they are being employed and paid less than if they would be if they were set on by the employers and not the DWP. So why not pay them the correct and going rate for the job they are doing. Quite simple really.
ADK Posted 2 October 2013 Posted 2 October 2013 I don't really see the point in arguing with people who are clearly prejudiced.
