Corky Posted 13 January 2013 Posted 13 January 2013 Tremendous victory, really good to see us thrashing the lower sides in this division rather than labouring as we have in the past. Chris Wood again showing what a fine player he is, albeit helped by an appalling goalkeeping performance, and James adding to his growing reputation with an excellent left-footed finish. Drinkwater was back to form, Nugent looks happier next to Wood and the defence dealt with their little threat with ease. We're hitting form at the right time, and our goal difference is a huge bonus. We've closed the gap by five points in two games to second and we look full of confidence. Very impressive.

iamafox Posted 13 January 2013 Posted 13 January 2013 This is the sort of game we would have lost last season, but of course we've lost to them the last 2 seasons on their own patch so it surely had to be 3rd time lucky. To score 4 goals away from home is a magnificent achievement, only if you win though. Let's keep the confidence of the players high and the winning run going.

steveherbe Posted 13 January 2013 Posted 13 January 2013 Agreed. We had one very good spell for about 15minutes after the 4th but then it fizzled out really for the last 15/20mins. The reason for the 'poor' atmosphere? As a contest it was all over after 18 minutes. I've seen more exciting pre-season friendlies. Men against boys it was, hence no excitement. Dont get me wrong, I loved it, but I didnt get that 'tingle' of excitement that comes with a close game. Was speaking to a Brizzle lad after the game, and I used the word 'embarrassing' to describe his team - he accepted it. Thought the 'leftside- rightside' song was good though, sounded loud to me in the leftside.

allotment-fox Posted 14 January 2013 Posted 14 January 2013 Really enjoyed the game the day started with a Bcfc steward apologizing for the state of the ground for the away fans before we went in he said "I've been to your place and it's great ground to visit", he went on to say that the land had been sold to Sainsbury's with land down the road being purchased only to have plans for a new ground floored by locals claiming a former tip was really a village green ! Whatever the reasons for the poor condition's for away support I can't see us playing at Ashton Gate in the league again any time soon. The game plan for city these days of getting the ball across early rather than tapping it about to each other then using Chris Wood as a battering-ram is certainly working and long may it continue. Bristol City could do very little right apart for a few passes in the last 20 minutes when it was to late and all over. I was convinced I could see Bristol's chairman ripping up his managers contract form a 100 yards after that Matty's goal went in and hundreds of locals running for the exit's and an early bus home just after half time will remain etched on my memory of my first & last visit to Ashton Gate.

Must say I found this really odd as well. Dont think i've ever seen fans leaving the ground before half time before. Definatly think the nail was in the coffin as soon as Wood's third went in.
